Join Bryan Dean Wright, former CIA Operations Officer, as he dives into today's top stories shaping America and the world. In this Friday Headline Brief of The Wright Report, Bryan delivers encouraging developments in the Middle East, including an extended ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon that could pave the way for broader regional peace and new energy routes that weaken Iran's strategic grip.
He also provides critical updates on Iran's internal power struggle, reporting that the Ayatollah is severely incapacitated while factions within the IRGC push for either war or survival under mounting economic pressure from the U.S. blockade. Bryan explains how this pressure is choking off billions in oil revenue, while China's massive oil reserves give Beijing temporary insulation and a potential strategic edge in the region.
Plus, Bryan covers escalating tensions between the White House and Pope Leo over immigration policy, a troubling rise in threats against ICE agents, and new concerns about artificial intelligence being used inside the CIA despite reliability issues. He closes with health updates on marijuana policy changes, unexpected risks tied to weight-loss drugs, and an inspiring story from a listener who credits the podcast with helping save her life.

Welcome to The Wright Report, your daily news podcast. It's Friday's Headline Brief. Heavy on news, lighter on analysis, launching us into the weekend with events that as ever are shaping America and the world. We begin with global news this morning, starting with good news on at least one part of the war front in the Middle East. President Trump and his team have gotten Israel and Lebanon to extend their ceasefire for three more weeks and continue peace talks. Axios News reports that officials in Beirut and Jerusalem agreed with President Trump, although after only his continued arm twisting, that the two nations need to hold fire and focus on a long term peace deal. Now, as you all might remember, that is because peace here in Lebanon and obviously with Israel means a much bigger chance that Arab governments like Saudi Arabia will join the Abraham Peace Accords. That would then leave Iran as the region's outlier and not recognizing Israel's right to exist. Should that happen, this broader regional peace deal, it also means that some new oil and gas pipelines could flow from the Gulf Arab countries to both Israel and Lebanon. That would bypass then the Strait of Hormuz and dramatically lower the leverage and power that Iran has in some of these regional waterways. Pivoting now to some quick analysis and opinion then, you know, this one's so great, so easy. Forget the naysayers, forget the new resistance, all the podcasters, the Democrats that seek to divide and inflame. We are on a good, though very difficult path, in part, settling some very ancient fights. God willing, what we're seeing in Lebanon will crack the strength that the Islamists and the anti-Semitic wings of people have around the world, certainly the ones in the Middle East and Europe and the US. And I tell you, I'm just, I'm praying hard on this one. And if you're so inclined, you might want to do the same. We've got to have peace in Lebanon. And for it to hold, to settle down this region, God willing, once and for all. Next, we've got an update this morning on the Ayatollah of Iran. The Hill reports on something that I actually confirmed with you all about a month ago. He is gravely injured and not making executive decisions. Those around him are, but he's basically a cutout, dealing with his severed leg, his largely destroyed hand, and facial disfigurement of profound burns, from profound burns that are going to require notable plastic surgery. This then limits his ability to speak. The New York Times also reports that the Ayatollah is awake and mumbling. He's saying yes to things best as he can, but only when his staff and the IRGC tell him what the right answer is. That too matches my assessment from last month that they specifically picked him to be their puppet, intentionally choosing a wounded, closeted gay man and the otherwise non-accepting Islamic society to give a bit of a veneer of Muslim governance, but the IRGC will still rule. In other words, it's all just a farce. Instead, we can say firmly this morning and with high confidence that Iran is now a military junta and it's led by different factions within the IRGC that push and pull on the other. As the New York Post is reporting, a major player in that, as a guy I've mentioned before, his name is Major General Ahmad Wahidi. He is the head of the IRGC. Critically, we should know this morning that Wahidi was very close to the former IRGC Chief Qassem Soleimani, who, as you might remember, President Trump killed in his first administration. It's believed that this General Wahidi wants revenge, and that is why he's looking for more war and more fight with Trump and the Americans this morning, not peace. The problem, though, for the IRGC continues to be the Trump's economic blockade. It's working and the regime is emerging what cash they have left. In fact, the Washington Free Beacon and the Hill Report that the US is successfully blocking ships in the Gulf of Oman, although a couple of Iranian vessels have either slipped through or, more likely, the Pentagon has let them slip through, sending a message by letting them slip through and then nabbing them throughout the Indian Ocean and beyond, showing that we can get anybody, anywhere, anytime. In fact, three Iranian ships were captured by the US Marines yesterday, all oil tankers. Otherwise, the US Navy has turned back now 31 ships to Iran, cutting off, by the way, $13 billion in cash per month that Iran normally gets and desperately needs. Also, this is cutting off some serious amounts of oil to China, too. But on that front, we should know this, and as Axios News is reporting, China's stockpile of oil remains incredibly large and, y'all, I mean, huge. They have got 1.4 billion barrels of oil in storage. Compare that 1.4 billion to America's 400 million and just 260 million in Japan. So, that obviously gives China some short-term ability to weather this oil shock, certainly better than other Asian nations and European, too. Perhaps most vitally, though, the massive Chinese stockpile of oil would give Beijing a critical advantage in the short-term anyway if they chose to invade or blockade Taiwan, at least in the next 12 months, as clearly Japan and the US would be limited on big oil reserves at the immediate ready. Same is true, by the way, of our allies in Australia. Bloomberg News is reporting on something quite rare. Australia is just now importing diesel from Washington State. These are the first shipments in at least three years, and a clear reflection of the fact that there is a lack of Arab oil out there that's pushing global oil markets away from the Middle East to the newest gas station in town. That's right, the United States of America. Pivoting now to some quick analysis and opinion on all of these Iran ops and updates this morning, I want to just remind us of something that I mentioned yesterday, that President Trump is eyeing some Sunday strikes on Tehran if the IRGC doesn't budge between now and then. So folks, if that happens, lots of things could occur. However, we should remember that our sailors and marines in the Gulf of Oman are a new target for Tehran. And given the fact that the IRGC still has long range drones and missiles in their arsenal, degraded, but they're still there. Well, we're going to need a lot of prayer and divine protection for our men and women in uniform. Please do think about that on Sunday, especially. More to come on all of that. Speaking of the divine, Pope Leo is stoking the political fires this morning with the White House. Again, Reuters News reports that Leo spoke at a press conference yesterday and said that rich nations are treating refugees and migrants worse than animals, said the Pope, quote, They are human beings and we have to treat human beings in humanitarian way and not treat them worse than house pets or animals, end quote. Now, interestingly and curiously, Leo did not mention any specific rich offending country in his remarks, but as Reuters News reported, it was a clear message that he was directing his IRE at President Trump and the United States of America, not the Europeans who largely have open border policies. Also we should know, the Pope prodded rich nations yesterday to become more interventionists abroad. He said the following, quote, What are richer countries doing to change the situation for poorer countries and why can't we seek to change the situations in those countries, end quote. Well, arguably, that is what President Trump is trying to do in Iran, which just slaughtered 40,000 plus of its own people. Plus, we should remember that the West has sent over a trillion dollars in humanitarian aid specifically to Africa since the 1960s. And we know that in some cases that aid has actually made things a lot worse. But what the Pope is arguing here is really the traditional leftist or democrat position, at least here in the US, was famously championed by Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, that we should get to the root cause of poverty in all countries globally and try to change those places in whatever way, like programs that focus on promoting democracy or strengthening democracy. To which the borders are, Tom Homan said yesterday that the Pope, well, his council here sounds kind of uninformed. At a conference yesterday, Mr. Homan was asked about the Pope's frequent criticism of Trump's tough border policies and deportation efforts. As Fox News reports, Mr. Homan said that as a lifelong Catholic, it's clear that Leo just doesn't get it, nor does the Vatican, quote, they're talking about something that they don't understand, end quote. Mr. Homan then suggested something quite interesting and I think smart. He suggested that Leo do ride-alongs with ICE and border patrol, to see the tired, poor, huddled masses yearning to breathe free, because it turns out that's not all of them. There are lots of rapists and killers and arsonists, thieves, drug dealers, wife-beaters, child molesters, and so on. And yeah, that's because humans are awful sometimes, evil even. So maybe if the Pope saw that each and every day, as US law enforcement does, according to Mr. Homan, the Pope, Leo, would have a different perspective. And not just in the US, actually. The Pope should do some ride alongs in Europe too. The UK's Independent reported this week on a horrific case. It's of an Egyptian asylum seeker in Great Britain, who joined a group of men from abroad that raped a woman on a beach in the UK, and this Egyptian filmed it. Well, it turns out this guy, he was also convicted of murder back in his home country of Egypt. But of course, that was not caught by British authorities, because just like in the US, these fake asylum seekers and fake refugees lie about their identities and backgrounds. Also, the UK's criminal databases aren't connected to or synced with every nation abroad. Plus, we certainly know here in the US, leftist law enforcement or prosecutors often dismiss charges or offer sweetheart deals to these illegals or so-called newcomers. That of course is great for them, but it's not so great for the native people. And of course, all of the law enforcement didn't have to round up the scallywags. By the way, and for the record, the Vatican hasn't responded to Mr. Holman's offer of this ride-along. More to come on that. All right, folks. Now, before we take our first commercial break of the morning, I want to offer you some quick, unscripted reactions to all of this news about the White House and the punters squaring up about politics. And I want to offer you a personal aside, definitely now switching from facts and data to analysis and opinion. For folks unaware, I grew up Protestant, but the vast majority of my friends and my after school activities were with Catholics and at the Catholic Church in town. I then went to Gonzaga University, which of course is a Catholic university, mostly instructed by Jesuit priests. And I had an amazing education. Truly, the Jesuit fathers who were the vast majority of my professors were incredible men. And when I was going to school there, they asked me if I would be interested in converting and joining the Jesuit order. And I was really honored to be asked about that and consider that. And I got to know a lot of them. Incredible men, so smart, so passionate and dedicated about their walk with Jesus. And I just thought, you know, well, let me give a shot. Let me listen to what they have to offer. I got some incredible advice, some amazing counsel about life as I did so. I also learned a lot about Catholicism, and I learned a lot about politics within the Catholic Church and within, say, different orders and so forth. And so when I hear conversations about the Church and about politics and specifically the Pope having a particular, I don't know, political bent, I'm not surprised at all. It makes perfect sense to me because the Jesuits told me a lot about the stuff behind the curtain about how this happens. And it's true, the Catholic Church has lots of politics, that's different factions drive different parts of it. So I have long learned that when I hear statements from the church, that I need to really just consider that fact, that it is a political organization as well as a spiritual one. And that both of those things are important to recognize. So I wanted to offer that as we think about this fight between the Pope and the White House and the possibility that some of this that we're getting from the Vatican is very much a political direction or a political goal. Not surprised at all about that. Anyway, I'll talk more about that maybe next week, maybe weeks to come. But that is something that I just wanted you to know that does color my view when I hear this news. All right, and with that, let's take that first official break of the morning, shall we? Most people think that muscle health is just about muscle size, you know, being big and burly. But no, the real goal is strength. And you build that through energy and endurance that comes from the cellular level. In fact, here's something that you might not know about that at the center of those cells are something called mitochondria, the tiny energy factories that power every movement in our body and every muscle. And that's why every day I take a supplement for those mitochondria called Mitopure with its active ingredient, urolithin A. That has been clinically shown to support the body's process that removes the damaged mitochondria and boosts the new ones at that cellular level. And that, folks, leads to more energy and endurance, which gets you to that big goal, the muscle strength, that we all need. And that is so important as we get older, as our body's mitochondrial systems get a little bit tired as we age, which explains or helps to explain that muscle loss. But Mitopure whips that system back into shape, a product, by the way, with over 15 years of research, including some that I've talked about on the podcast, like one that had study participants who experienced a 12% improvement in muscle strength after just four months of use with no change in exercise. That is the power of Mitopure by Timeline Nutrition. And that clinically proven formula, folks, is now available at a new lower price. Mitopure now starts at $79, but you gotta go to timeline.com/twr. Again, that's timeline.com/twr, timeline.com/twr, and check in with me later this spring once you start, because I'm telling you, this product works. Welcome back to The Wright Report. Let's continue with our headline brief this morning with more domestic news, and we kick off our coverage with some related immigration news as we were talking about before the break on what happens when leftists in this country use violent rhetoric against ICE and President Trump. The California Post reports that earlier this week ICE officials blasted the Democrat candidate for that state's governorship, Mr. Tom Steyer. Steyer is now trying to replace Governor Gavin Newsom in trying to grab Democrat votes by going hard against border enforcement and ICE operations. In fact, Mr. Steyer said at a recent gathering that ICE should be treated as a criminal agency and that officers should be prosecuted and imprisoned either now or in the future. And if he is elected governor, that is exactly what he will do. That's what he promised. ICE then shot back earlier this week that not only is that charge inflammatory, it's unconstitutional. He can't prosecute those federal law enforcement officers due to a very, very high legal threshold around something called the supremacy clause. And that is, in the general, correct. ICE also added that Democrats like this Mr. Steyer are not only just wrong, they are dangerous people. They are provoking their fellow leftists to attack and kill federal officers with this rhetoric. And that is also correct, sadly. And but the latest example. Earlier this week, in San Francisco, a man was arrested after sending ICE leaders a message that promised their death. And I'm going to read you his message, the one that he sent to ICE. But you should be warned, it's pretty nasty stuff. So here we go, quote, Your Gestapo Nazi maggot ICE agents should be terrified. Every single one of them deserve to be arrested by armed American citizens. Frog marched into the streets, summarily tried and convicted of crimes against humanity. They're in public and subsequently executed right there as well, with two effing bullets in the back of their maggot Nazi heads, end quote. That talk of Nazis and death matches exactly what left us and Democrats have been saying for years now in California and beyond, contributing this morning to a nation that is under attack by these people. It also helps to explain the poll that I first mentioned about a year ago of America's Democrats that showed that a majority of them believe that assassinating Donald Trump is fully or partially justifiable. We can now add or include ICE agents to their list as well, who have already been attacked coast to coast by Democrats over the past year. For what it's worth, California's Democrat gubernatorial candidates were asked about this back and forth with ICE and Mr. Steyer. I'll keep you posted on their responses, but Steyer did respond, and he said that, quote, To Californians, you ICE are the ongoing threat, end quote. So no deep analysis or opinion, folks. Just a reminder, when people tell you who they are, believe them, Steyer is making very clear who he is and who his fellow Democrats are, and their foot soldiers are listening to them, San Francisco and beyond. And as I shared with y'all yesterday, or the day before, the time to get ready for their violent leftist revolution, it's right now. The storm clouds are not just sort of brewing their overhead. And I submit to you that you don't need to be a former CIA ops officer to see that. Speaking of the CIA, let's move on this morning. And let's go to agency headquarters in Langley, Virginia, and let's do an update on the AI revolution. Politico Magazine is reporting, that I can confirm, that the CIA is using artificial intelligence to write Intel products, like the old PDB. The agency's deputy director, Mr. Michael Ellis, confirmed that AI tools will be kind of like a sidekick for agency analysts, helping them to curate Intel faster or see patterns that they otherwise might miss. But Ellis actually said that it could go further, much further, that AI might just write reports fully on their own, autonomously, and that that Intel would then go on to the president. In fact, the agency's AI tool has already written one report totally on its own. That said, Ellis emphasized a number of times that humans will always make the key decisions here, for now. But here's why this could be a problem, folks, and this is just but one fresh example. This comes from Bloomberg News. One of Wall Street's most prominent law firms, named Sullivan and Cromwell, just wrote to a bankruptcy judge this week to apologize for their court motion that included totally fake citations that were generated by AI. The law firm is blaming it all on their AI tool that's called Motion, admitting that their garbage filing was full of inaccuracies, lies, and hallucinations. Bloomberg noted that this AI slop has largely been found to date amongst solo practitioners of law, rarely big top law firms, but alas, here we are. AI has arrived everywhere, including fancy law firms, and that's because it's cheaper than you and me, or a human lawyer, or a CIA Intel analyst. Pivoting now from those facts and data to quick analysis and opinion. You know, I read stuff about AI a lot, and one of the things that strikes me about AI is it's sort of like that really great new employee that you just hired, that has a really cheery attitude, and they're super promising, but as it turns out, they're liars and incredibly biased, and most all their stuff is fakery. So then you got to hire a manager to quality control their work. All of it, every time, and discernibly, it seems forever. Neat. What a cool product. But look, as I read all of this stuff and I think about that analogy, it begs the question for me, how long is AI going to be this garbage filled, so unreliable? I suspect that it's not going to be forever. It's going to learn. In fact, you can, I would say, now see that in the stock market. The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday that there's a stock of a company, Intel. It is on fire because of demand for the CPUs that they make for AI systems. And companies like Nvidia and others that produce GPUs are doing pretty darn well as well. So we've got then trillions and trillions of dollars invested in this AI revolution, you know, nevermind that it's crushing your utility bills, soaking up ungodly amounts of water to cool the computers. And at best, then, it just is creating a product that's very hit and miss. And it has to be overseen with every single output, every single time that an actual human to quality control it. And it's kind of a tool that sometimes wants to kill you. We covered that alarming research last fall and winter. Anyway, still doesn't matter. The AI revolution is here. It's not going anywhere. There is way too much money to be had. The Chinese are doing it too. And to be fair, there is a lot of promise here. I'm just not sure that I'm liking the path that we're on. And I really hope that the CIA does not give a report to Trump. It was written by AI, passed along by some bored analyst who's, I don't know, playing Call of Duty or something. We gotta fix that problem. But speaking of duty, Trump's FCC chairman says that the federal government has a duty to warn parents and viewers of media that has some transgender material in it. It's about to be presented on their TV screens, kind of like a rated R for a movie. The FCC chair, Brennan Carr, says that this new warning would only be for a children's program to try to better help parents protect their kids from trans ideology being squished into the minds of their little ones. No date has been set for this idea to actually be launched or implemented, but the FCC and related entities are kicking the tires on it. We could see some final rules into next fall. Pivoting now to some quick analysis and opinion on that. So here's a personal story. Y'all remember my best buddy, my sniper buddy, Wayne. He recently sent me a photo of a kids magazine that his daughter wanted, and inside were a bunch of ads. And some were for makeup, fine, but one of the models, the so-called models, was a fully bearded man, looked like he was, I don't know, like maybe in his 30s, putting on lipstick and foundation. And as Wayne said to me, man, you cannot take anything for granted anymore, not even in a little girl's magazine. You gotta watch this stuff, like a hawk. The propaganda is just everywhere. So look, I don't know what is or isn't appropriate for TV shows, as the FCC is thinking about in this particular case with this news, but here's a simple rule. Bearded ladies belong in a circus, not in a kids magazine, nor obviously during cartoons, unless it's like Bugs Bunny being a ham, it's probably okay, probably. Apparent discretion still advised. Moving on, and speaking of warnings this morning, that takes us to our final set of medical updates. Reuters News is reporting that the Trump administration is downgrading or rescheduling marijuana as a less dangerous drug. Yesterday's order is quite narrow, in fact, more restrictive than we companies had hoped for. For now, it's just a relaxation of the rules for FDA-approved cannabis drugs and products that operate under state medical marijuana frameworks. No recreational use. But Trump's DOJ did also announce that further panels and processes will take place over the summer for possible far broader legalization nationwide. Stocks of cannabis companies rose yesterday and then tanked after looking at the fine print and all of this. But as Reuters News reports, there is another growing concern here for the industry. GLP-1 drugs. Interesting. Here's what we're learning. As more people get on these weight loss drugs, fewer of them have cravings in general. And that includes for marijuana products. The cannabis industry is now reeling from this change. But it's more than that. There is also a danger because GLP-1 drugs, slow gastric emptying. So somebody might use weed or an edible, but it wouldn't hit them quickly, leading a person to think, oh, well, it's not very strong. I'll have another or two. And they do. And then they have unexpected strong highs or side effects like screaming and vomiting, as I covered earlier this week, which is now known affectionately by ER docs and nurses as scrumming. Anyway, and bottom line, if you're a user, you might want to hold off if you're also on a GLP-1 drug or even thinking about it. As ever though, your body, your risk, your choice, just don't use a GLP-1 drug and eat your edibles because you're going to end up with an ER. You're going to drive my health insurance premium up. Just saying. Anyway, that little barbicide, that takes us to something, ladies and gentlemen, that is far more serious and far, far more joyful. Earlier this week, I got a new founder on Substack, where founders are the most generous and incredible financial supporters of all. This founder's name is Miss Jenny. She is from North of Tampa, Florida. She says that this podcast saved her life. So here is her story. Dear Bryan, I owe you a huge thank you. You have helped save my life. I was diagnosed with a rather aggressive breast cancer back in January of 2024. Shortly after that, you informed us on the podcast of research showing that high intensity workouts can kill cancer cells. And you also said that cancer cells were at their weakest in the morning. So that is the best time for treatments or a workout. I went to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa and they removed the lump. They then wanted to put me through chemo and radiation. I decided to refuse both, since I thought that the treatment would either kill me or leave me completely crippled. So instead, I went on a very strict diet of no sugar and low carbs and I added a daily intense workout in the morning. And now, Bryan, I am cancer free. In fact, I recently got Moffitt to do a blood test for me or on me for cancer markers. They didn't want to do it at first. And my blood tests came back completely normal. Thank you for informing me about how workouts can kill cancer cells. I still work out almost every day, by the way. It has become a new good habit of mine. So thank you for doing your podcast. I know that it takes a big chunk of your day, and I have to admit, I worry about you, Bryan. When was the last time that you took a week's vacation? I would continue to be a faithful listener. Even if you took a few weeks off a year, please consider it. End quote. By the way, Jenny then sent me a photo of her with her grandkids, who, as she said, are the most important part of her newly extended life in Florida. Well, Jenny, I am so happy for you, so proud of you. I am honored to have you as a listener and a founder. My goodness, thank you. And I'm humbled that my little nothing podcast is making life better for people, you especially. And that's my goal. Awesome. And by the way, as for your question about a vacation, what's that? You know, I've heard of vacations, you know, kind of like a Bigfoot or a Democrat who believes in border control. But since you mentioned it, as it turns out, I am going to be stepping away next Friday, and then the following Monday and Tuesday, which is a huge rarity for me, but it's not a vacation. So I want to tell you what's going on. This year is America's 250th birthday, and I want to celebrate that. And to do that, I want to tell my family story of what we have done in this country over the past 250 years. I'm really, really proud to say that I come from just a hearty group of explorers and pioneers who traveled from Massachusetts in the 1600s, ending up in the Midwest. Then my third great grandfather traveled across the Oregon Trail to the Pacific Northwest. That was in the 1800s, and we have been in the state of Oregon ever since. And I want to tell that story, and I want to do it to celebrate who we are and what we've done. It's incredible because contrary to what people say, America is a great place, and the Americans who have built us are great. We are here standing on a shoulder of giants. I want to honor them, not tear them down in their statues. We are under attack, ladies and gentlemen. That is just self-evident, but we can overcome it. And I think that we need to do that by being inspired and encouraged to remember who we are. And in that vein, I want to do something neat. Because of your financial support, I've hired a little camera crew, and they're going to travel with me through the Inland Northwest to help produce and film my family's journey. And I'm going to put out a finished product starting on our big birthday, July the 4th, and hopefully some teasers beforehand. Now, before now and July, in fact, probably late next week or certainly early in the week thereafter, I'm going to post some video on Substack at the family ranch in Oregon, along with my dad's place in the Blue Mountains. It is just a gorgeous part of the country this time of year. So it's going to be super fun, an amazing project. I'm going to be super, super excited to share all of it with you in July. And it's kind of a nice way to just let you all know who I am. Contrary to some, I'm not a deep state or CIA guy and a White House sycophant. Anyway, so Jenny, there is, I guess, a little bit of a vacation coming up. I'm still going to be working a lot every day, but it's still going to be nice. And the offer that you said about sticking with me, no matter what, thank you. That means a lot. And meanwhile, and most importantly, Ms. Jenny, back to your medical journey. Congratulations once again. And I want to emphasize something to you and to everybody. I didn't have anything to do with your recovery. Not at the end of the day. That was all God. And that tells me, Jenny, that you are now anointed. May you use this extra time with great blessing and profound opportunity. He's not done with you yet, Ms. Jenny. People still need you, and I'm really honored to have you as a part of this tribe. And with that, ladies and gentlemen, let us conclude this morning's episode of The Wright Report. As always, I will see you on Monday, God willing. Until then, I leave you with the creed of every good spy and every wise American, through the words from the Gospel of John, chapter 8, verse 32. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Good day. Craving the coffee flavor you love, but without the caffeine? Cachavas got you covered with their newest coffee flavor.
