[00:03] It was Wednesday morning, about 10 a.m. when Leslie Jenning Preer's colleagues became concerned she hadn't come to work.

Speaker 2:
[00:09] I wonder what's the emergency? We just walked in the door, husband and I, and there's blood in the foyer.

Speaker 3:
[00:16] In 2001, Leslie Preer was living in the suburbs of Washington, DC when on a spring morning, the unthinkable happened.

Speaker 1:
[00:24] There were signs of a struggle, but no forced entry. This woman was strangled and she was beaten.

Speaker 3:
[00:29] She was found in the shower with the water running. Leslie's body was found in the upstairs bathroom. My dad is like, your mom has been in an accident. Suspicion fell where it usually does in cases like this.

Speaker 2:
[00:45] Her husband told us that he had failed a lie detector test.

Speaker 3:
[00:49] I asked him, did you kill mom?

Speaker 1:
[00:52] And he said no.

Speaker 3:
[00:55] For the next two decades, Leslie Preer's case remained unsolved and the shocking truth about the real killer stayed hidden until very recently, when new technology allowed investigators to do what had once been impossible.

[01:14] And what they're looking at is this, DNA. Detectives started trailing him to confirm their suspicions.
