[02:11] I'm feeling great. I can't wait to see what people make. I've been waiting 10 years for this. I want to see all the weird little pots, pot guys you got running around.
Speaker 6:

[02:30] Tim, how did you and Derek come up with such a mouthful of a game?
Speaker 5:
[02:34] Well, we have a game jam internally called MEG. Fortnite, where we forget what we're doing for two weeks and then split into tiny little groups to do a game. Derek pitched this game and the team voted and it was one of the ones that we decided to make. It was such a funny idea and during our game jam, it was one of the games where just everyone was laughing and screaming as they're playing. It's just being in the room with people, especially making it seem the crazy pots they make and watching them have ridiculous hijinks. It was obvious it's just a crowd pleaser that we just had to make it. Then we couldn't get to it right away and then it got interrupted by Psychodots. It had all these things, but it's here.
Speaker 4:
[03:10] It's so exciting to see this.
Speaker 1:
[03:16] This wasn't a post-Psychonauts 2 thing then?
Speaker 5:
[03:19] It got into full swing afterwards, but I think the idea was pitched in the Game Jam in 2017.
Speaker 1:
[03:26] Nice. That's cool. Your inspiration, Derrick, comes from where?
Speaker 3:
[03:32] Yeah. My background is in concept art. So it was like a lot of drawing and painting, and then a double-find. It's a lot of drawing, like really interesting, funny characters. I had this idea, I really want a game where I want to make a funny, cool character in a game and I want my friends to make silly characters, and I want them to fight. That was the basic idea of the pitch, and then dove into, how do we do that on a controller? How do you make stuff in a video game? How do you make a character free form? And I came across a bunch of images of pottery, and I was like, oh, you know what? That would work on a controller. And then it was a very naive thought, and then here I am. We're like, we've been ears. Yeah, exactly. You fool. Yeah, very foolish. But I'm so glad that we took that.
Speaker 1:
[04:22] Awesome. Very, very cool. So, Mike, when you played it at GDC, what were the strats you were seeing people were coming up? What were the early meta days?
Speaker 2:
[04:31] So I got in early during the press and family hour. So I actually played with a lot of double-fine families and kids, and they were leading the charge. It was Mike, hey, just try to keep up with us. So they were all laughing, screaming in my ear, and we were having a blast together. And then I got to play the beta that they had recently. And that's where I really dove deep into the meta, the pottery building. And I started to learn what I like to see on the battlefield, what I need out of my teammates, and what I need to be created.
Speaker 1:
[04:59] Yeah, I mean, I'm hoping that you'd lead us to victory.
Speaker 5:
[05:02] Yeah.
Speaker 2:
[05:02] Thank you. Of course, when we're kicking this off, it looks like Tim has already created something on my right-hand side.
Speaker 5:
[05:09] I'm finding these, like, people just, other people have made those. Like, you can see what other pots people have made in the wedge, is what the lobbies call. This is my first creation today, which is an angry little teapot.
Speaker 2:

[05:22] With a blue stripe. Like, I had to do three glazes to get the blue stripes.
Speaker 2:
[05:26] I love talking about the glazes and having fun.
Speaker 1:
[05:28] Tell me about that. What does that mean?
Speaker 2:
[05:29] Well, Andy, of course, you're going to fire up your pot, and you're going to paint your pot. Like Derek said, you're going to make your own hero to this story. You're going to make your own fun character you're going to go out and bring into the pottery party brawler.

[05:49] I mean, this is just like sensory ASMR. This feels good to look at, and it's matching up with the, you know, vibrations of the controller. It's just like so far, I could, this could be the game. And I'm just here.

[06:05] Bringing the vibes of the scene from Ghost, right?

[06:09] Of course, have Andy creating right now. He's on the wheel spinning, making his own pot. And I'm very excited to dive in with Tim and Derek. There's a lot that goes into making your pot. Of course, it is the fun, creative side, but it also matches up with your play style or what you kind of want your abilities to be, right, Derek?
Speaker 3:
[06:27] Yeah. Yeah. So your shape, we have this creative pillar that we always talk about. It's like your shape matters. It has to matter what you make determines what you can do. And so the game detects like, do you make, am I making a bottle? Am I making a bowl? And it will assign you a special move that's based on that shape. And then there's other variables too. Like if you're really big, if you're really big bottle, you do something completely different than a very small bottle, who's like a lot faster. And yeah.
Speaker 1:
[06:56] The one that I saw, like kind of in the making of mine, where I'm just sort of adding shapes and I'm seeing the ability change on the right side. I saw Morningstar and I love a good Morningstar, you know, weapon in Elden Ring or any of the fantasy sort of online games. What dictates the shape of a Morningstar?
Speaker 3:
[07:14] That would be a vase. So these were all inspired by our wonderful animators who they're like, what is this? What is this pot? What does this shape look like? What should it do?
Speaker 5:
[07:22] It came to life, like, what would it act like?
Speaker 3:
[07:24] Yeah, if it sprouted arms and legs, what could this do? And, you know, it started out like some of them are a large bottle turns into a cannon, you can attack like that. And then for the Morningstar, they were like, well, that looks like a ball. What if a chain just flung it?
Speaker 1:
[07:44] Gotcha. Yeah, that's sick.
Speaker 2:
[07:46] I've nailed a new one I've never seen before. I have the bullhorn.
Speaker 1:
[07:49] Oh, very exciting.
Speaker 2:
[07:50] You just had it a moment ago. But yeah, I have that for kind of a little crowd control right there.
Speaker 1:
[07:56] Tornado, spin your top heavy head to create a whirlwind that traps and damages opponents you touch.
Speaker 5:
[08:03] I saw the game kind of gets to you like when you first go in, you like make a pod, go out there and it's all about fighting. And then you like see these other people attacking with attacks you don't have.
Speaker 1:
[08:10] You're like, I want that.
Speaker 5:
[08:13] How do I make that? You're like trying to recreate their pod and then you learn there's like all these different shapes and sizes all have their own moves. And plus you trade off for like health and capacity.
Speaker 2:
[08:21] I was going to say as well, Tim, then we also go into health and capacity, carrying the water. What kind of role are you playing for the team as well? And Derek is getting some love right now in the YouTube chat. He says Derek's pod is dope. So Derek got something going on over there.
Speaker 3:
[08:36] I make a little still life set up here. I'm trying to get a little little pot collection.
Speaker 5:
[08:42] I got to maximize my top shelf.

[09:03] And then, yeah, I think the big one as well, Tim, like you said, is like you go out there and you play the game and then you start to get more ideas of like, Oh, what should I be doing on the wheel? What kind of gameplay do I want in the future? What things have I not seen and want to try?
Speaker 5:
[09:16] And then there's things you notice when you go out with those different size spots and the maps behave differently. Like if you're a little pot, you can go in these little tunnels.

There's a beautiful glaze. This is where you talk if you want to start a battle. There's also like you can just practice smashing pots over here in this little arena. There's a little castle pot you can just pick up. You're feeling aggressive. There's a little character who hides in the weeds named Potty. If you smash him every day, you can get new and get rewards for fighting him once a day.

[10:20] Let me just say this about Celadon. If the next game was just based on her being this awesome god, you know, god with a cool sword, I'm in. Count me in day one pre-order. Yeah.

[11:44] All these new stuff. There's new maps in here that weren't in the beta. That we'll see in the future.

[11:51] Well, in any of the times that you all do play with other people, what classes do you all see the most often?
