Speaker 2:
[00:58] It is hour number two, KSR, 8559, 280, 2287. The text machine is 772-774-5254. Everybody is ordering their food here, and I'm learning that there are more red lobsters. Got one in Northern Kentucky, we got one in Richmond, we got one in Owensboro, the one in Hamburg is still open.

Speaker 1:
[01:17] There we go. Very good.

Speaker 2:
[01:18] So a lot of endless shrimp around the state. I'll tell you what, they always say, if you want good shrimp, go to Northern Kentucky right there on the Ohio. On Ohio River, that couldn't be nicer, right? That's what you want.

Speaker 1:
[01:32] Out of all of us, isn't Shannon the biggest Red Lobster fan?

Speaker 2:
[01:34] Oh yeah, remember we went there once for him for one of our things, right Ryan? Or Shannon, did we do that?

Speaker 3:
[01:40] Well, I remember you saying, I'm gonna take you guys out to a really nice place. Red Lobster.

Speaker 2:
[01:45] Yes.

Speaker 4:
[01:45] Y'all make me want Red Lobster now.

Speaker 2:
[01:48] I like Red Lobster.

Speaker 1:
[01:49] Are the cheddar biscuits not some of the best biscuits?

Speaker 4:
[01:51] Biscuits are fire.

Speaker 2:
[01:52] As a matter of fact, if they had a Red Lobster in London, that'd be where I'd be eating tonight. That's where I would be eating. 859-280-2287. One person writes, Matt, if Kentucky were to get Tyron Stokes, it would be the biggest recruiting commitment since when? OK, so I'm like part of this for me is also hype. OK, because like there are guys that were very highly ranked, but maybe we got them early in the process. Or I remember the Anthony Davis thing kind of came to fruition really quick, so it didn't really have a chance to get hyped. What do you think would be the last time the fan base would be this excited about? I mean, is it John Wall? I wonder.

Speaker 1:
[02:29] Can we say the twins coming back?

Speaker 2:
[02:32] No, that's a return. I think that's a freshman. I would say.

Speaker 1:
[02:38] That was huge.

Speaker 2:
[02:39] New Orleans.

Speaker 1:
[02:40] Yeah, New Orleans announcing on national television on ESPN.

Speaker 2:
[02:45] I think it was, I think it's certainly the biggest since New Orleans. I can't think of one bigger than that since New Orleans.

Speaker 4:
[02:55] I hope when he comes, he's as good as everybody thinks.

Speaker 2:
[02:58] Because I'm trying to think, what were the biggest in the history of UK sports, what are the biggest moments of fans waiting for a commitment and then it comes? Because like Anthony Davis kind of came out, like it just happened. So let's go through history. Rex Chapman is a huge one.

Speaker 1:
[03:15] Maybe top of the list.

Speaker 2:
[03:17] Rex Chapman might be number one.

Speaker 1:
[03:18] It was between Kentucky and Louisville.

Speaker 2:
[03:21] One we didn't get was Ralph Sampson, the whole country.

Speaker 1:
[03:24] Yes.

Speaker 2:
[03:25] But Rex Chapman, Tim Couch.

Speaker 1:
[03:28] Huge announcement that night.

Speaker 2:
[03:30] That's a huge one, right?

Speaker 1:
[03:31] Yes.

Speaker 2:
[03:32] Rex Chapman, Tim Couch, John Wall, Patrick Patterson.

Speaker 1:
[03:38] Yeah, for sure. We were ready to have a parade down Main Street for Patrick Patterson, and he was like, what, ranked 16th in the country.

Speaker 2:
[03:44] In New Orleans. All right. So who else do you think is on that list? Those are the ones that stick out to me. Is there, was there a tubby one that did that? I can't think of one though where like everybody's waiting, waiting, waiting for a guy like, you know, like that great tubby class of Crawford, Rondo and Morris, they kind of came dispersed throughout the year.

Speaker 1:
[04:09] Didn't we stay on late to cover the Julius Randall announcement?

Speaker 2:
[04:14] Julius Randall was a big one, yes. I mean, Wiggins was a big one we didn't get.

Speaker 1:
[04:19] We stayed on late for him too.

Speaker 2:
[04:20] We stayed on late. Julius Randall, actually, I think I broke that one just during the show. I don't think it was an announcement like that. I mean, I think it would be the biggest since New Orleans, right?

Speaker 1:
[04:34] I can't think of another one. If we're not going to, the twins and Randall would be the only thing close to what we're looking for, I believe.

Speaker 2:
[04:40] I mean, Jamal Murray was a big one because it was very late in the process.

Speaker 1:
[04:43] Very late.

Speaker 2:
[04:44] Remember, it was like in May or late May or something.

Speaker 1:
[04:47] But like you said, if you include all the buildup that we've had around Stokes now for months, it's been a long time.

Speaker 4:
[04:52] Has this been the longest that we've ever waited for?

Speaker 2:
[04:54] Patterson and Lucas is the longest. Patterson and Lucas was an entire year of it, like every day. That's the longest. I mean, Wall was huge, but it wasn't a long time because Cal had just gotten here. And so it was, they got cousins real quick, bled so real quick. And then Wall kind of was the last one, but then he came.

Speaker 1:
[05:17] Pretty quick, cut the elk, followed Cal here from Memphis, their commitment to Memphis. I feel like it's...

Speaker 2:
[05:23] I mean, what about in the old days? I mean, Rex is the one that sticks out. Was there another one in the old days?

Speaker 1:
[05:28] Well, you mentioned Ralph Sampson, we didn't get him. Sam Bowie.

Speaker 2:
[05:32] I was going to say Bowie feels like that was one people really cared about.

Speaker 1:
[05:35] Yeah.

Speaker 2:
[05:36] Mashburn, I don't remember there being a huge buildup to it, right?

Speaker 1:
[05:40] I don't remember a huge buildup either.

Speaker 2:
[05:42] Yeah. So, I mean, this is... It would certainly go in the record books, I think, if he ends up taking it. How was the bowling last night?

Speaker 1:
[05:51] A lot of fun. Yeah, a lot of fun on the night was kind of... Last night was kind of the organizational night. You got to turn your teams in, and then you got practice round, but everybody's so excited. This is a fun event in the summer, this KSR bowling league. They had like what? I think 20 teams last night show up just for practice.

Speaker 2:
[06:06] Yeah, so ksrbowling.com gets you signed up. We only have, there's only a handful of teams left, but the first real one is next week.

Speaker 1:
[06:15] The guy who's the really good bowler who bowls like almost 300 every time, he was bowling left-handed last night just for practice. He wasn't even bowling right-handed, he was bowling left-handed.

Speaker 2:
[06:26] Shannon, before we go back to phones, can I tell the story about my confrontation with my neighbor in Louisville?

Speaker 3:
[06:30] Oh yeah, I've been waiting since yesterday for this story.

Speaker 2:
[06:33] Forgot about that. All right, so in Louisville, I live next to all the hippies and the libs are everywhere, right?

Speaker 1:
[06:42] Right.

Speaker 2:
[06:42] It's in like the-

Speaker 1:
[06:43] The hipster area.

Speaker 2:
[06:44] The highlands. In the highlands, and I like that because nobody really knows who I am. Everybody leaves me alone, it's great. Last Friday night, I'm walking down the street, I'm going for a walk, I'm gonna go downtown, I'm gonna eat at one place, it's really good. It's like a Cuban place downtown. What's it called? Something day, something. Anyway, walk down there. As I'm leaving, I hear a guy go, more Pope's out, more Pope. And I'm like, you know what? I don't care, whatever, ignore it. It's time to go eat.

Speaker 1:
[07:19] I'm gonna enjoy my walk.

Speaker 2:
[07:20] Go for my walk, blah, blah, blah. Go, you know, I'm just thinking it's a Louisville fan, whatever, or maybe even someone that likes you that's just like wants to express his disdain for Mark Pope.

Speaker 1:
[07:32] Sure.

Speaker 2:
[07:33] Hour and a half, two hours later, when I come back, I walk, I pass the house. I'm about to get my house.

Speaker 3:
[07:40] Matt Jones!

Speaker 5:
[07:42] Matt Jones!

Speaker 3:
[07:43] Can't get away from it.

Speaker 2:
[07:44] Matt Jones X! All right, now, this is the second time it's happened, and it's coming from a porch. All right. And I look up and there's like 10 people on this porch. And so I'm sitting there thinking, the right thing to do is to just go into my house. Yes. But there comes a point, a person shouldn't just have to be yelled at in his neighborhood. Plus, I've lived there for a long time, almost 20 years.

Speaker 3:
[08:12] You thought you got seniority over these neighbors.

Speaker 2:
[08:14] There's got to be only one or two people there that have lived there longer than me.

Speaker 3:
[08:18] Right.

Speaker 2:
[08:19] Right. So you know what I was like? Forget it. So I walk over there.

Speaker 3:
[08:24] Exactly.

Speaker 2:
[08:25] So I walk over. Now, there's ten people on the porch. Yes. All right. And I walk up and I go, What's your deal? Like, what are you doing? I'm just walking. And he was like, Oh, man, you know, I'm just, I'm just a cards fan, just giving you a hard time. And I was like, I don't know you. You don't just walk. I'm walking down the street like what? Just leave me alone. And he goes, Well, I mean, you think you're too good for this neighborhood. What?

Speaker 3:
[08:53] Shannon, what?

Speaker 6:
[08:55] What does that have to do with it?

Speaker 2:
[08:56] You think you're too good for the neighborhood? He's like, you don't ever want to hang out or talk to people here.

Speaker 3:
[09:04] You should say, Yeah, that's true.

Speaker 2:
[09:05] And I was like, well, first of all, you've never asked me to hang out. Secondly, you screamed at me. Why would I want to hang out with you? You know, like what is it that would make you want? And so then Shannon, it becomes, this guy decides he's spokesman. And he's like, well, and he starts bringing up stuff that has nothing to do with it. That has nothing to do with it. That he's like, one time you use that person's shovel. Remember I told that story. I had to use a shovel one time. So I looked at the person, I said, I did. I was like, I'm sorry if that upset you. And she said, I could see her. She was like, I don't care. Right, he was...

Speaker 1:
[09:50] Oh, the lady that owned the house with the shovel was there?

Speaker 2:
[09:52] She didn't care. She didn't care. She didn't care.

Speaker 1:
[09:55] She didn't care.

Speaker 2:
[09:56] So this guy just keeps going. And he's like, you need to be part of the neighborhood. He goes, you know, you don't come to the neighborhood meetings. And I'm like, I'm not coming to the neighborhood meetings. I was like, you guys, whatever you want to do is fine with me.

Speaker 1:
[10:12] Very neighborly.

Speaker 2:
[10:13] I said, but look, you know, there's a couple of choices. You can either like we could be friends. We could be nothing. But the one thing that's unacceptable is screaming at me from the street. Right? Am I wrong about that? No, you are a human being like, and I said he was like, well, you just think you're to, you're better than everybody. I'm like, we've never spoken. What do you mean? I think I'm better. Like you don't even know me. I haven't done anything. I'm just go in my house. But you know, it was one of those things they think like, I guess I'm supposed to go and talk to everybody. Yeah. So, you know, I left and the rest of the people in the neighborhood were fine, but it was just this guy. That one guy. It was just this guy. And so the other people like put the other people in the neighborhood. I like go, thanks. And people shake my hand and they say nice things. And then he reaches out his hand and I'm like, no.

Speaker 1:
[11:12] Oh, really?

Speaker 3:
[11:12] He tried to switch up.

Speaker 2:
[11:15] No, because you yelled at me.

Speaker 1:
[11:18] He was trying to apologize.

Speaker 2:
[11:19] No, he never apologized. That was the thing. He acted like it was reasonable for him to yell at me. He never appalled, just to scream at me while I'm walking down the street.

Speaker 1:
[11:30] I love the fact that all the other neighbors were like shaking their head down, oh man, I'm sorry.

Speaker 2:
[11:34] Here's what had happened. Over the years, they've probably talked and said that Matt Jones lives there. One time. He took our shovel and used it and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And this guy, because he's a cards fan, doesn't like me and then used it as a chance to be the spokesman for the neighborhood. So anyway, sorry, I was not happy. When he shook his, stuck his hand out, I was like, no, I was like, I'm not shaking your hand. You didn't apologize. You yelled at me.

Speaker 1:
[12:04] You were just going to walk eat some Cuban food, man.

Speaker 2:
[12:07] So Shannon, yeah, I'd like to be friends with my neighbors, but like, why would I want to if they're yelling as I walk down the street?

Speaker 3:
[12:15] So you won't be baking on brownies as a peace offering.

Speaker 2:
[12:17] Well, I said, listen, I'd love to get to know you all, but I'm never going to come to the meeting.

Speaker 3:
[12:21] So are you still going to be in this Louisville? You still keeping that house even though you're-

Speaker 2:
[12:25] I don't know. I haven't decided. This was a notch against it.

Speaker 3:
[12:28] That's a good reason to move out of the neighborhood right there. Here's your chance.

Speaker 2:
[12:31] This was a notch against keeping the Louisville house. Who's next?

Speaker 3:
[12:34] Let's go to Gary.

Speaker 2:
[12:35] Gary, go ahead, Gary.

Speaker 6:
[12:38] Matt, two quick things. One, with Tyrus Stokes. So, you know, I think with the addition of Zoom Diallo, I've always assumed that was kind of the positive nail in the coffin. They played together, right? So I, I don't know. I've been positive since that Zoom Diallo commitment that that helped us with Tyrus Stokes. And then I'd love to hear your comments on that in a second. And then the number two, if the five-year eligibility rule gets passed, and since he hasn't entered the portal, or didn't enter the portal, I should say, technically, could O-Way come back as he's drafted on the call?

Speaker 2:
[13:12] I don't know. It's a great question. So for people who don't know, the president of the NCAA said today, I appreciate the call, that he is pushing to have the five-for-five rule implemented in May. When that happened, the Trillie Donovan, that's that college basketball insider, said expect to see the portal completely freeze now for coaches to wait and see if seniors are going to be eligible. Now, OA didn't enter the portal, but you do wonder, Ryan, if they end up saying these seniors can get another year, do they make an exception for those guys? So number one is they could say they could come back. Number two is they could say they could come back, and even if they didn't enter the portal, they'll give them a week to enter it or something.

Speaker 1:
[13:55] Yeah.

Speaker 2:
[13:56] And then number three is they would say, no, it starts next year and it doesn't apply to any of you.

Speaker 1:
[13:59] You would think if they make that decision after the portal closes, they need to make some sort of concession.

Speaker 2:
[14:04] Yeah. And it would be interesting to see because all of a sudden, Pope's misses. He might have a whole selection of new players to be able to go after and other schools wouldn't have spots or money for them. I mean, it almost could like-

Speaker 1:
[14:18] Work in his favor.

Speaker 2:
[14:20] You could almost have this moment where all of a sudden, you have the most money and there's this new selection of groceries and no one is there to compete with you. So that I actually think for the future of next season, what the NCAA decides to do is kind of important, right?

Speaker 1:
[14:38] What if the brilliance of Mark Pope is he's been planning this for months? This is what's going to happen.

Speaker 3:
[14:42] I don't think you could give away too much credit.

Speaker 2:
[14:45] I think it would be a lot of luck, but it would be luck that we could use, right?

Speaker 1:
[14:50] No doubt about it, especially if it's something like Otega. Otega Owee returns?

Speaker 2:
[14:54] Well, I mean, the Owee thing.

Speaker 1:
[14:56] That would immediately get people excited also. Something like that.

Speaker 2:
[14:59] I mean, we have no notion that he would want to do that. But what if all of a sudden Otega Owee was just back for another year?

Speaker 4:
[15:06] That would be pretty awesome. Maybe.

Speaker 2:
[15:08] Well, I would have a different view about this team at that ball.

Speaker 1:
[15:11] We all would. You add him to the team?

Speaker 2:
[15:14] Because you would now have two really good guards and him.

Speaker 4:
[15:17] Maybe add Stokes with him? I don't know.

Speaker 2:
[15:19] Well, now you're getting crazy. But I do think it's interesting to think about if they do this 5 for 5 and they apply it retroactively. Denzel Aberdeen is in the portal, assuming they're going to do this.

Speaker 4:
[15:31] Yes.

Speaker 1:
[15:32] Right.

Speaker 2:
[15:33] I can't. It would seem to me the NCAA can't say, okay, now you get 5 for 5 and we're not going to let you in.

Speaker 1:
[15:40] They have to, don't they?

Speaker 2:
[15:41] I think they would have to because, like, guys didn't think they had a chance to do it.

Speaker 1:
[15:46] Right. Make a concession, like you said. You just open it up for a week for those guys.

Speaker 2:
[15:50] Yes, like a week. Because the whole reason to close the portal is you want colleges to know what their roster is. But I don't think the reasoning to close it makes sense. If they already thought those guys were gone anyway, then they might as well let them do it.

Speaker 1:
[16:04] I agree.

Speaker 2:
[16:05] So we'll see. The best present you can get mom for Mother's Day is your time in the memory of family getting together. Noche Linda Farms is your perfect go-to for that special family gathering. Whether it's a Sunday afternoon griller or more, you're going to love Ryan the Beef at Noche Linda Farms. Check out their website for specials or go to nochelindafarms.com. You love Noche Linda.

Speaker 1:
[16:27] I had Noche Linda Farms yesterday as a matter of fact.

Speaker 2:
[16:29] Steve Grissom, 859-707-7004, nochelindafarms.com. Buy local beef with Noche Linda. We'll take a break. Be right back. This is KSI. Welcome back. Tuckie Sports Radio, 859-280-2287. One person says, Matt, are you going to end up on the HBO show Neighbors? No, I'm not going to be fighting about it. I didn't do anything. I'm not getting into that level of detail with them. No.

Speaker 1:
[16:57] Like I asked you during the break, why can't it be mad at you not joining these neighborhood events when they don't even invite you to the neighborhood events?

Speaker 2:
[17:03] I don't even know when the events are.

Speaker 1:
[17:04] How are you supposed to know?

Speaker 2:
[17:05] I can say you don't go to the meetings. What meeting? About what? What does it even say? We just live next to each other.

Speaker 3:
[17:12] They don't invite you to the meetings because you're what they're talking about.

Speaker 1:
[17:16] We got to make our list of Matt Jones stuff.

Speaker 2:
[17:19] 859-280-2287. We have some breaking news, Shannon.

Speaker 3:
[17:22] Okay.

Speaker 2:
[17:23] Running on our Justin Rowland of Cats Illustrated and now House of Blue. KSR Plus reports that there's a new candidate for the UK AD that has emerged, Jeremiah Dickey. He is the AD at Boise State. And just as a coincidence, if you go to Instagram, Jeremiah Dickey has in the last 12 hours followed many of the UK basketball coaches.

Speaker 1:
[17:54] Wow. Maybe that's our answer right there. What do you think? Jeremiah Dickey.

Speaker 2:
[17:59] Don't know anything about him. He's the AD at Boise State, but we're going to have a lot of people now researching the AD at Boise State as a potential thing.

Speaker 1:
[18:10] Don't know anything about him. Can't contribute.

Speaker 2:
[18:13] And Joe Tipton of On Three Sports reporting that McBride has canceled his visit to Louisville and other schools and that Kentucky is the favorite.

Speaker 4:
[18:24] Did you hear that, Ryan Lemond?

Speaker 1:
[18:25] Did you hear that, Mario?

Speaker 7:
[18:26] Wow.

Speaker 4:
[18:27] I heard that one. I heard that one.

Speaker 7:
[18:29] I'll be.

Speaker 1:
[18:30] McBride canceled his other visits.

Speaker 4:
[18:31] See, why would he do that?

Speaker 1:
[18:32] I don't know. Wow. I guess all those people that say that's supposed to cancel his visit to UConn.

Speaker 4:
[18:39] Shannon, don't say it.

Speaker 3:
[18:40] I'm just saying. He did come here.

Speaker 1:
[18:46] I want to say something.

Speaker 2:
[18:48] Well, you can just say it.

Speaker 1:
[18:49] There were a lot of people that maybe expressed some frustration last night towards Mario and me that maybe might feel a little bad about it, maybe later today.

Speaker 2:
[18:57] Who are these people?

Speaker 1:
[18:58] Just various people accusing us of horrible things.

Speaker 2:
[19:02] Oh, you mean like fans?

Speaker 1:
[19:04] Yes.

Speaker 2:
[19:05] So you're wanting them to feel bad?

Speaker 1:
[19:07] Maybe.

Speaker 3:
[19:07] Let's just let it lay out.

Speaker 2:
[19:09] Because to be fair, if he comes here, you all did have the first eyeballs on the scene.

Speaker 3:
[19:14] Now, you can do double middle finger emojis to all those people.

Speaker 2:
[19:18] No, listen, when I inquired with you today, I was like, do you feel confident about it? You said you did.

Speaker 4:
[19:25] So I hope it doesn't flip. So someone tweeted me that they're praying for me online.

Speaker 2:
[19:31] I hope it doesn't flip. The NFL Draft is tonight. Are you all, do you enjoy the NFL Draft?

Speaker 1:
[19:38] I do. I think the best story is that Francisco Mendoza, Fernando Mendoza is not even going to be there. He's going to be at his parents' house in Florida. So he's going to be with his mom when he's the number one pick. I think that's a great story.

Speaker 2:
[19:49] Can his mom not come?

Speaker 1:
[19:50] She's got multiple sclerosis, I believe.

Speaker 2:
[19:52] Oh, well, that's very nice.

Speaker 1:
[19:53] I think she just had COVID, so they don't want to get her out.

Speaker 2:
[19:56] Well, that is very nice, actually, so he could be with his mom.

Speaker 1:
[19:58] That is mom, yeah.

Speaker 2:
[20:00] Seems like a good kid.

Speaker 1:
[20:01] Seems like an awesome kid. I mean, before he went to Indiana, he learned every person on the roster's name by face. He had them send him a roster, so he could memorize everybody's face and name. Really?

Speaker 4:
[20:12] I think he would.

Speaker 1:
[20:13] Yes.

Speaker 2:
[20:13] Is that right? Yes. I didn't know that.

Speaker 1:
[20:15] So he could walk in the locker room like, hey, Matt.

Speaker 2:
[20:17] See, that's a really good trait. That's a really good trait that I don't have. I can't remember people's names.

Speaker 4:
[20:22] You're pretty bad with names.

Speaker 2:
[20:23] I'm really bad with names. I can see, though, that if your quarterback comes in and he remembers everybody's name, that's a cool gesture.

Speaker 1:
[20:31] I think it speaks highly of him as a person, obviously.

Speaker 2:
[20:34] Yeah. Well, I enjoy the draft. I'm looking forward to Shannon. Two things, I like watching mothers and the girlfriends fight over airtime.

Speaker 3:
[20:44] Yes.

Speaker 2:
[20:44] Yeah, we've always enjoyed that. Mothers of draftees will push the girlfriend out of the picture like, honey, you're not going to be here in a year, so don't be in our picture.

Speaker 4:
[20:54] I hate to interrupt. Yeah, I do have some scoop.

Speaker 3:
[20:57] Oh, yeah.

Speaker 2:
[20:58] Hang on. Is this a wah-dee-nah-nah?

Speaker 4:
[21:00] No, it's just, you know.

Speaker 2:
[21:02] No, no, let's give Mario his first ever wah-dee-nah-nah. Agreed.

Speaker 3:
[21:06] OK.

Speaker 4:
[21:07] I do have some scoop.

Speaker 2:
[21:08] Hang on. All right, go ahead.

Speaker 3:
[21:11] Get a half a nah-nah.

Speaker 4:
[21:12] A good friend of mine just told me, sent me a text, that Coach Mo and Justin McBride are buying Kentucky shirts at the bookstore right now.

Speaker 1:
[21:24] Wah-dee-nah-nah.

Speaker 3:
[21:25] Where's the pictures? Come on.

Speaker 1:
[21:26] Wait a minute.

Speaker 2:
[21:27] That's the news is that they're buying Kentucky shirts at the bookstore.

Speaker 4:
[21:31] They're buying Kentucky shirts.

Speaker 1:
[21:32] They're buying Louisville shirts, are they?

Speaker 2:
[21:34] Why does he have to buy shirts?

Speaker 1:
[21:35] Yeah.

Speaker 2:
[21:37] We don't have free shirts we can give him. We're making him buy shirts at the bookstore.

Speaker 1:
[21:43] He's got to buy shirts for the big announcement for his mom and dad and brother and sister, and everybody's got to have a Kentucky shirt.

Speaker 2:
[21:49] See, this is what I love about you, Mario. You said you had big scoop, and it's that they're buying shirts at the bookstore.

Speaker 4:
[21:57] It's something. It's something.

Speaker 1:
[21:59] That's right.

Speaker 4:
[21:59] I'm not buying Louis shirts, sir.

Speaker 2:
[22:01] Everyone that's listening, Mario Maitland is reporting that Justin McBride is buying Kentucky shirts at the bookstore.

Speaker 1:
[22:10] Right now. Right now with Coach Mo.

Speaker 2:
[22:12] Make sure we get that news out to people.

Speaker 4:
[22:14] You got to get it out.

Speaker 1:
[22:15] You got to get it out.

Speaker 2:
[22:17] Something else.

Speaker 3:
[22:18] Let's go to Pete.

Speaker 2:
[22:19] Pete.

Speaker 7:
[22:19] Go ahead, Pete. Hey, guys, it was good hearing Drew's voice this morning. It's always a little something missing when the ensemble wasn't there. But anyway. Well, thank you. I don't think it's particularly insightful. But if you just think of it, if this basketball season had gone the way definitely Popeye's going to go, and a lot of us last summer and early fall, Mitch probably gets his deal. And nobody says a word. I think if we make the Elite 8, or even if a final four, just a shot or two off from the final four, we'd probably have a roster full right now, and we're hoping we get a summer trip to the Bahamas. Yeah. Just a few games, just a few games being everything.

Speaker 2:
[23:14] Now, you're exactly right about that. That's a great point. I appreciate the call. You win a couple of games, you're good. Jeremiah Dickey was NCAA Athletic Director of the Year 2024-25.

Speaker 3:
[23:23] Welcome.

Speaker 2:
[23:24] We'll be right back. TJ Smith, personal injury attorney. Call TJ. He'll make him pay.

Speaker 3:
[23:31] Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.

Speaker 2:
[23:37] It is Kentucky Sports Radio. If you're paying a premium for roadside assistant or getting gouged for phone insurance, you should be using UK Federal Credit Union. He is known as a focus. His focus is NIL. He's been part of the NIL National Groups to figure out how schools can most maximize it. And he is considered, he's 42 years old. So we would have an AD that is younger than I am.

Speaker 3:
[24:32] I like it.

Speaker 2:
[24:33] So.

Speaker 1:
[24:34] And is this, do you suspect this could be made today?

Speaker 3:
[24:38] I don't know.

Speaker 2:
[24:39] I mean, this is just in, this is just in Roland's report. So I haven't talked to him about it, so I don't know.

Speaker 1:
[24:45] But I didn't know if that meeting today, this was something maybe on the agenda.

Speaker 2:
[24:49] I mean, it could be. It's actually tomorrow, tomorrow morning. Also, Jeremiah Dickey is now following Jacob Polacheck and me on Twitter. Hello, Jeremiah.

Speaker 1:
[25:00] I don't think that's an accident or, you know.

Speaker 2:
[25:02] Yeah. Sounds like our guy.

Speaker 1:
[25:04] Sounds like he's trying to get to know his people.

Speaker 2:
[25:06] Yeah. Yeah. So.

Speaker 1:
[25:08] You're going to follow him back?

Speaker 4:
[25:10] Did you follow him back?

Speaker 2:
[25:11] Not yet, but I can. I also just started following me, Frank the Tank from Barstow. So those are my two newest. Maybe he's going to be the AD. 8-5-9-2-8-0-22-87. Today, I did an interview yesterday, which will be out on the interrupted feed with Kyle Tucker, formerly of the Athletic, now of 24-7 Sports. We talk about kind of the state of UK basketball and also tell a lot of old Cal Perry stories that are great. Kyle had ones I didn't even know. I think it's a really good interview for if you care about UK basketball, which clearly everybody here does. That's on the interrupted feed today.

Speaker 1:
[25:51] There was a time when Kyle was close to both of you guys.

Speaker 2:
[25:54] Well, that's what we talk about.

Speaker 1:
[25:55] Yeah.

Speaker 2:
[25:55] And we talk about both when we were close and how that worked and then what happened when we both got broken up with.

Speaker 1:
[26:01] What was his fallout about?

Speaker 2:
[26:04] Kyle criticized him and like when you do that, you're out. But he said that when Kyle was at Memphis, Gary Parrish, you know Gary Parrish, he covered him and that Kyle would do interviews with Gary Parrish, he would make him stand outside the shower. So Kyle would be in the shower and Gary would stand outside the shower and interview him. That is weird. Isn't that strange, Shannon?

Speaker 3:
[26:37] It's really strange. Now, just to be clear, Kyle Perry is actually showering, he's not just standing in the shower.

Speaker 2:
[26:44] No, Kyle Perry would be showering.

Speaker 3:
[26:46] So he's naked and then he's got-

Speaker 2:
[26:47] I assume naked, I don't know how he showers, but he would be in the shower, showering and then Gary Parrish would be outside the shower, interviewing him while he was in the shower.

Speaker 3:
[26:57] Kyle's in the bathtub with a rubber ducky.

Speaker 7:
[26:59] What do you think about that?

Speaker 1:
[27:00] That is one of the most disrespectful things I've ever heard of. I can't believe Gary Parrish actually would, Stephen.

Speaker 2:
[27:06] But if that was the only time you could do it.

Speaker 1:
[27:08] My story the next day would be, Kyle wants me to stand outside the shower and interviewing while taking a shower.

Speaker 4:
[27:14] That is so weird, man.

Speaker 2:
[27:15] Yeah, so that was-

Speaker 1:
[27:16] That's awful.

Speaker 2:
[27:18] Well, anyway, that interview will go up later this afternoon. Who's next?

Speaker 1:
[27:21] Joe.

Speaker 2:
[27:22] Joe, go ahead, Joe.

Speaker 5:
[27:25] Hey, Matt, this is Derek Anderson's nephew and thank you again for last week. That was hilarious, me and his nephew got a big kick out of that.

Speaker 2:
[27:33] Yeah, Derek was great.

Speaker 1:
[27:35] He was awesome.

Speaker 2:
[27:36] Derek Anderson was great on the interview and I thought his interview was interesting. I thought he did an awesome job.

Speaker 4:
[27:43] My favorite part from that interview was when he was like, you can turn a dude, you can make your own dude. You guys talk a lot about having a dude. You can make a dude.

Speaker 2:
[27:54] Yeah, I don't know if I agree with him on that, but I do think it was interesting that he said that.

Speaker 4:
[27:58] I like that.

Speaker 2:
[27:58] Yeah, go ahead, sir.

Speaker 5:
[28:01] Yeah, absolutely. He's great. Always gracious, etc. Sent me his book, signed autograph card and stuff like it. It's a big running joke. Now, I just really appreciate that moment. The last thing I wanted to say was, Matt, you've been screaming about the whole PR thing with Pope. I don't think that that can be talked about enough. There almost seems to be a book written about it. Because when you look at Danny Hurley and Will Wade, one guy that wins, one guy that really hasn't over the last couple of years, negative media attention or not, they address it and surprisingly, it goes away. It doesn't be totally black space.

Speaker 2:
[28:34] Everything goes away. We have a short attention span now in this country, for better or worse, and things go away if you address them. But when you don't, it keeps going. You take the biggest scandal in the world, think about politics, think about all the stuff that Trump does. When he addresses, it goes away. But think about something that they don't address, like the Epstein files. It just lingers and lingers and lingers and gets bigger. If you just address it, people in this world just move on because they move on to the next thing. So I'm with you on that, sir.

Speaker 5:
[29:16] He had bought it a referee and addressed it. Whether the answer was good or not, it went away. It just blows my mind. It's kind of wild. Wish you'd just get out there and talk about some of the stuff and we could all support him like we all want to.

Speaker 2:
[29:32] Appreciate the call.

Speaker 1:
[29:34] I think there's a lot of truth to that. Because you've said it many times, if there's silence, we fill the void. It may not be what you want us to fill the void with, but we're going to fill that void with something.

Speaker 2:
[29:45] One person wrote me, by the way, this is a good time. He said, Matt, I got a question for you. When is the election and who is running? We do have an election here.

Speaker 1:
[29:58] Midterm election coming up?

Speaker 2:
[30:00] Well, the primary is like, when is it?

Speaker 1:
[30:03] May something.

Speaker 2:
[30:04] It's in May.

Speaker 1:
[30:05] Yeah.

Speaker 2:
[30:06] What? May 19th, 17th. All right, so let's do a quiz.

Speaker 1:
[30:12] All right.

Speaker 2:
[30:13] May 17th.

Speaker 1:
[30:14] Okay.

Speaker 2:
[30:16] Democratic, or let's start with the easier one. Republican primary, three candidates, who is it?

Speaker 1:
[30:21] No idea.

Speaker 2:
[30:23] How can you say no idea? They've run campaign. There have been ads during every game of every. You really don't know who's running.

Speaker 1:
[30:30] Andy Barr.

Speaker 2:
[30:31] There's one.

Speaker 1:
[30:32] Nate Morris.

Speaker 2:
[30:33] Two.

Speaker 1:
[30:35] Don't know the. Oh, yeah. Daniel Cameron.

Speaker 2:
[30:37] Look at that. Well done. All right. And then Democratic primary. There's a bunch of candidates, but really, there's, I think, three main ones.

Speaker 1:
[30:48] Let's cast soccer goalie, Amy McGrath.

Speaker 2:
[30:52] Amy McGrath is running again. Ninth time's a charm.

Speaker 1:
[30:57] I'm not going to come up with these other guys or girls.

Speaker 2:
[31:00] One of them has run before and has been on this show.

Speaker 1:
[31:06] Really? Mike Harmon?

Speaker 2:
[31:08] Mike Harmon is no, that's not a Democrat.

Speaker 1:
[31:10] Oh, that's right. Wow. Adam Edelin?

Speaker 2:
[31:13] Adam Edelin is not running. No, we're not leading with Edelin.

Speaker 1:
[31:18] I don't know.

Speaker 2:
[31:19] Charles Booker?

Speaker 1:
[31:20] Oh, yes.

Speaker 2:
[31:21] And then one of them is an outsider, but you know from the world of sports. Who's the world of sports person running against Adam, against Amy McGrath and Charles Booker?

Speaker 1:
[31:30] I don't know. I think I should know this.

Speaker 2:
[31:32] Anybody know? Dale Romans.

Speaker 1:
[31:36] I've heard of him, the horse trainer.

Speaker 2:
[31:37] The horse guy.

Speaker 1:
[31:39] I didn't know he was running to be honest. First time I'm hearing about it. I haven't seen his sign anywhere in my yard.

Speaker 2:
[31:43] We haven't seen Shannon as many Amy McGraths commercials this time.

Speaker 3:
[31:46] I haven't seen hardly any at all.

Speaker 2:
[31:48] The only thing I ever see is woke Nate Morris and Andy Barr.

Speaker 3:
[31:53] See, I've heard enough of her commercials over the years. I know she's a fighter pilot. I mean, really that right there has lasting dividends.

Speaker 2:
[32:01] She's a mother and a fire fighter.

Speaker 1:
[32:03] And a Lex Cat soccer goalie.

Speaker 2:
[32:05] She was a Lex Cat soccer goalie?

Speaker 1:
[32:06] I believe I saw that in one of our commercials.

Speaker 2:
[32:08] But by the way, there's still a month left, so just be ready. There will be more ads.

Speaker 1:
[32:12] But you're right, just Andy Barr and Nate Morris, those are the ones that are just over. So I've not seen one Daniel Cameron ad, not one.

Speaker 2:
[32:19] I think Daniel Cameron is taking the very interesting view of let me just act like I'm not running. I like it.

Speaker 3:
[32:26] And then it would be a surprise when everybody shows up and sees your name on there.

Speaker 2:
[32:29] But what if it works? Like, what if it works? What if they're like, these other two people will not stop?

Speaker 4:
[32:35] I'm going to just vote for the other guy.

Speaker 2:
[32:36] I'm going to vote for the other guy because he's not on my television all the time. Could that work?

Speaker 1:
[32:41] Maybe that should be his campaign. I'm the other guy. I'm not running all these ads. Vote for me.

Speaker 2:
[32:47] Yeah.

Speaker 1:
[32:47] I like it.

Speaker 2:
[32:48] I do not show up on your YouTube.

Speaker 1:
[32:50] Over and over and over.

Speaker 3:
[32:52] The Nate Morris ads, like the slamming Nate Morris, fully woke and full of, you know what? It showed up like every time.

Speaker 2:
[32:59] I mean, the YouTube ad, if you have YouTube TV, the two of them, it's just nonstop. Here's the reality in Kentucky. If people can't afford affordable childcare place to live, can't get jobs, can't keep them, that's why we need childcare and housing in Kentucky, go to opportunitystartshere.com. opportunitystartshere.com to add your name today. Fix the basics, childcare and housing, at opportunitystartshere.com. My mom says it's May 19th.

Speaker 1:
[33:30] May 19th.

Speaker 2:
[33:31] I'm gonna go with her. Whatever she says.

Speaker 1:
[33:32] I got Josiah registered. He gets to vote for the first time. Nice.

Speaker 2:
[33:36] But you don't know who to vote for. Do you have any idea who's running for Congress in Lexington? Like on any side?

Speaker 1:
[33:43] No idea.

Speaker 2:
[33:44] What's crazy is I don't really know either. And it's an open seat. It'll be the first time this seat's been open in 20 years and I have no idea who's running.

Speaker 1:
[33:51] I'm gonna research that for you.

Speaker 2:
[33:53] Definitely should come in and give us an understanding. We'll take a break. I'm Barry Vax, KSR. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at KSBar & Grille where folks are eating lunch and enjoying themselves. Now I told you Owen County is here. The Owen County media class and they have a segment, Ryan, apparently in the Owen County news that is on the hot seat.

Speaker 1:
[34:15] On the hot seat. Do it every segment. Callie does it. She hosts it.

Speaker 4:
[34:18] So she's ready to put you on the hot seat.

Speaker 2:
[34:20] Callie, you put people at Owen County on the hot seat.

Speaker 8:
[34:23] Yes. I put teachers, students, whoever is willing to do it.

Speaker 2:
[34:27] All right. So now apparently you're gonna put me on the hot seat.

Speaker 8:
[34:29] Yes, if that's okay with you.

Speaker 2:
[34:30] Let's go. Put me on the hot seat.

Speaker 8:
[34:32] Okay. So what are some songs that you love, but you would never admit to?

Speaker 2:
[34:38] Well, I admit to most of them. I think the song that is the least manly that I like is if Party in the USA comes on, I will sing and dance in my car. And I'm a big Miley Cyrus, Party in the USA fan.

Speaker 8:
[34:54] That's a good one. I sang that for the third grade idol. It was good.

Speaker 2:
[34:57] Well, that was... My goal in music is to get songs that they sing in third grade idol. So I thank you, Callie. All right, what's the next one?

Speaker 8:
[35:06] If any animal could call into the show, which one would you pick and why?

Speaker 2:
[35:12] If an animal could call into the show?

Speaker 8:
[35:14] Yep.

Speaker 2:
[35:15] Have you heard of Bob in Jamestown?

Speaker 8:
[35:17] I don't think so.

Speaker 2:
[35:19] Okay, because he's kind of like an animal. That's a good question. I'd be interested probably in turtles. They live a long time and I'd like to know what they've seen in their long existence, because they've probably seen a lot.

Speaker 8:
[35:32] Okay, good answer.

Speaker 2:
[35:33] What an interesting question.

Speaker 1:
[35:35] It's an off the wall question.

Speaker 2:
[35:36] Okay.

Speaker 8:
[35:37] What is one conspiracy theory that you almost believe for fun?

Speaker 2:
[35:42] Okay. Well, this is one we've got to have Ryan and Shannon in on. What is a conspiracy that I believe for fun? See, I'm the wrong person to ask because I tend to not believe in conspiracy theories. Ryan, what's the conspiracy theory you believe in?

Speaker 1:
[35:59] I'm not against Lee Harvey Oswald did not act alone. I think that conspiracy theory has been out there forever. I'm proud to say that one.

Speaker 2:
[36:06] So who do you think did it?

Speaker 1:
[36:07] A bunch of people, the mob, the mafia.

Speaker 2:
[36:10] The mob and the mafia?

Speaker 1:
[36:11] Yeah. CIA, FBI, all the initials.

Speaker 2:
[36:14] It's a lot of people to do it. Yeah. You think they were in it together?

Speaker 1:
[36:17] I think he was the scapegoat.

Speaker 2:
[36:19] Okay. What about you, Shannon?

Speaker 3:
[36:20] Aliens exist. The government knows about it. They won't tell us.

Speaker 2:
[36:23] So you think there are aliens and the government just will not tell us? Yes. Yeah. I'm going to say that it's not really a conspiracy theory, but I think we do a lot of things around the world, like have people killed and things that we don't acknowledge. I don't know if that's a conspiracy theory, but I think it's probably correct. What's the next one?

Speaker 8:
[36:48] What is a word that you almost always mispronounce on air?

Speaker 2:
[36:54] Well, I mean, they would say Tennessee.

Speaker 1:
[36:57] TV.

Speaker 2:
[36:59] Halloween.

Speaker 1:
[36:59] Halloween.

Speaker 2:
[37:01] Yeah. I mean, Ryan, that's every word for you.

Speaker 1:
[37:04] Yeah. I have trouble with any word. That definitely is Tennessee.

Speaker 8:
[37:09] Tennessee.

Speaker 2:
[37:10] How do you say the state of the volunteers?

Speaker 8:
[37:14] Tennessee.

Speaker 2:
[37:15] See, you do it Tennessee. I do Tennessee like the emphasis on the 10.

Speaker 8:
[37:21] Tennessee.

Speaker 2:
[37:21] Yeah.

Speaker 8:
[37:22] Oh, okay. No, that's probably wrong.

Speaker 2:
[37:26] Wait a minute, Callie. It's okay. Callie, you've been really on the hot seat. All right, Mike Wallace, go ahead.

Speaker 8:
[37:32] Would you rather sneeze every time you go live or hiccup every sentence?

Speaker 2:
[37:40] I'd rather sneeze. I actually think a sneeze is a pleasurable thing. Don't you? Like a sneeze kind of brings a good feeling.

Speaker 8:
[37:52] And it could be something you're known for.

Speaker 2:
[37:54] Yeah, I'm known as the sneeze guy.

Speaker 8:
[37:56] Yeah.

Speaker 2:
[37:56] Hiccups are just annoying. I find hiccups, so I much prefer to sneeze.

Speaker 1:
[38:00] And a hiccup could be kind of gross if you're doing it every sentence. Yeah.

Speaker 2:
[38:04] But a sneeze, it's almost, I don't know.

Speaker 1:
[38:07] It's satisfying sometimes. It's a little bit pleasurable to sneeze.

Speaker 2:
[38:11] And I always sneeze in pairs. I can never sneeze once. I always sneeze twice.

Speaker 1:
[38:17] Really?

Speaker 2:
[38:17] Yeah. And what, one more.

Speaker 8:
[38:20] Would you rather interview someone who answers only in whispers or screams at the top of their lungs?

Speaker 1:
[38:28] That's a good question for you.

Speaker 2:
[38:31] As someone that's very loud, I think I'd rather them whisper. I think I've told this before. There was a guy in Bell County who, when he talks, he would say a sentence and then he would whisper. So he would go, let's go out and get some lunch. Let's go out and get some lunch. I always liked him because he would just say the same thing again as a whisper. I think I would enjoy that.

Speaker 1:
[38:54] Yeah, definitely for you, you want the whisperer, not somebody screaming at you, because you're just going to try to scream over the top of them. It's just going to get louder and louder and louder. All right.

Speaker 2:
[39:01] Well, good. Well, Callie, I'll tell you what, that's a great job. Everybody give a round of applause to on the hot seat with Callie.

Speaker 1:
[39:08] Good job.

Speaker 2:
[39:08] We're going to have you sit with us here for the last couple of minutes. All right. You can just chime in if you need to. All right. Who's up next? Let's go to Freebird. Freebird, go ahead.

Speaker 9:
[39:21] Hey guys, I was listening to the ACC network the other night when Louisville and Kentucky were playing baseball. I don't remember the guy's names, but man, there's some fantastic announcers. And they were talking about, I think, a couple of players from each team, Tyler Bell being one for us. And I forgot the guy from Louisville, but they used the term recruiting coordinator. So is that the same thing as we're trying to get a GM, General Manager?

Speaker 2:
[39:46] Yeah, I think so. Every sport uses it differently. So a recruiting coordinator can be the same as a GM. Yeah.

Speaker 9:
[39:56] Well, they acted like they knew what they were saying because all these baseball teams, they went through quite a bit of them. And, you know, they're fitting their style. You know, Min Jones is getting his style of players from a lot of different places. And so was Louisville's coach, which very highly respectful, did a great job. Not a Louisville fan, but I respect that baseball program. It's just seeing baseball is kind of going a whole lot smoother. It's the type of players these coaches want to get some of these other programs if I'm hitting it wrong.

Speaker 2:
[40:25] That's probably correct. I appreciate the call. Callie, do you think Mark Pope needs to hire a GM?

Speaker 8:
[40:32] I think that he can do whatever he feels is right for.

Speaker 2:
[40:36] Is your name Callie Barnhart?

Speaker 9:
[40:39] It is not.

Speaker 8:
[40:39] I'm sorry.

Speaker 9:
[40:41] No.

Speaker 8:
[40:42] But as long as whatever he feels is right for the program, I mean, that's...

Speaker 2:
[40:47] Okay. So you're saying you don't think he needs a GM?

Speaker 8:
[40:51] I think if he wants one, he can have one.

Speaker 2:
[40:52] But if not, no.

Speaker 8:
[40:53] But if not, I mean, there's no use in one.

Speaker 2:
[40:56] All right. See, I like these strong opinions. Yeah. People say sometimes we agree too much, then comes Hot Seat Callie in and she's going a different way. Speaker 8:
[41:53] I'm gonna say, okay, I'm gonna say Nuggets because it reminds me of Chicken Nuggets and I really enjoy Chicken Nuggets, so I'm gonna say Nuggets.

Speaker 1:
[42:03] I can't argue against that philosophy. I'm going Nuggets also.

Speaker 2:
[42:06] Feels like a pretty good philosophy. You know, I was gonna pick the Timberwolves, but I don't go against good logic, so I'm gonna take the Nuggets. Shannon?

Speaker 1:
[42:24] Knicks or Hawks?

Speaker 2:
[42:25] Knicks. Knicks.

Speaker 1:
[42:26] Knicks.

Speaker 2:
[42:27] I'm going Knicks. All right, it's a sweep. Nuggets, Knicks, that is your Draft Kings on the Hot Seat Parlay.
