Speaker 1:
[00:01] Hi, I'm Kristin Davis, and I want to know, are you a Charlotte? Hi, everybody. We are back for part two with Meghan Trainor. We are talking about episode 406, Baby Talk Is Cheap. We're going to discuss it some more with the fantastic Meghan Trainor. All right. So this is called Baby Talk Is Cheap, and it's interesting because basically the basic premise is, do actions speak louder than words in relationships? And I think they do.
Speaker 2:
[00:30] What do you think?
Speaker 1:
[00:31] Yeah.
Speaker 2:
[00:32] Oh, yeah.
Speaker 1:
[00:32] People can talk and talk and talk. It doesn't mean anything, really.
Speaker 2:
[00:36] Yeah.
Speaker 1:
[00:36] I mean, it's interesting to have a conversation, right?
Speaker 2:
[00:39] Yeah.
Speaker 1:
[00:40] But really you have to see what they're going to do.
Speaker 2:
[00:41] Yeah. Because then you build resentment. And I had this with my husband over Christmas. Like over one, every year he would go, I'm going to be better at Christmas, I promise, with helping me wrap all the gifts. Oh. And he did it for three years straight. And I was like, you talk a big talk, my dude. But like, when are you going to start helping me? And then this year he finally did.
Speaker 1:
[01:00] Oh, I'm so glad.
Speaker 2:
[01:01] Oh my God, you're so hot.
Speaker 1:
[01:02] Can I tell you there's going to be a day where your kids are going to help you and it's going to be awesome? Yeah. My older helps me wrap for my younger. And what a relief.
Speaker 2:
[01:12] That's so nice.
Speaker 1:
[01:12] Because as a single parent for Christmas, man, it's a stress.
Speaker 2:
[01:16] Yeah. Like even with my husband, we were up to like two, building. Right? He told me from scratch.
Speaker 1:
[01:19] And then you're exhausted for Christmas.
Speaker 2:
[01:21] Yeah.
Speaker 1:
[01:21] It's hard.
Speaker 2:
[01:22] And they're like, up to five.
Speaker 1:
[01:23] I know. But my older gets pretty excited about it. You know, which is really nice. So she's down there like, you know, trying to help out and it's so cute. But I'm glad that he stepped up and robbed some presents. That's really good. That's really good. Okay. So this is when we're, this is when we're trying to make an email.
Speaker 2:
[01:43] Yep.
Speaker 1:
[01:43] Carrie, Carrie is trying to write her first email, you guys. It's 2001. This is what my generation lived through. A life before email and a life after email. It's hard to even remember this. But it's insane to think about. Not to mention text, not to mention dating apps, not to mention all of it, right? Like Google was new.
Speaker 2:
[02:05] Crazy.
Speaker 1:
[02:06] Crazy. Email was new. You know, Carrie's like, I don't understand. She gets on the computer and it says that Aiden's online and she ducks because she thinks he might be able to see her.
Speaker 2:
[02:16] Yeah. I was like, oh, this is like the cutest. Yeah, I am. This is like a name or like instant messaging.
Speaker 1:
[02:20] Instant messaging.
Speaker 2:
[02:21] I was like, she can see he's on his email. Like what?
Speaker 1:
[02:24] It would, cause it would alert like, yeah.
Speaker 2:
[02:27] Yeah.
Speaker 1:
[02:28] The olden days. I remember being in my house. I bought a house after the first season of the show and it was dial up time, right? And I remember buying my computer and plugging it in and you would just sit there and try and it would be like, like a fax machine. Like it would make the crazy noise. You would just be like, please, please work. And I would just be sitting there for hours. Like, who can I call to make this work? Cause someone would be trying to send me something, like some agent or somebody would say like, I'm going to send you X, Y, or Z. And you'd just be trying like, please, let the internet gods help me. And I know it was crazy town. And now it's all so second nature. And we don't know what we would do without it.
Speaker 2:
[03:09] Yeah. My manager's like right now, she's trapped in her emails. They all are. Everybody is.
Speaker 1:
[03:14] Yep. I know. I know. And I mean, I get it. But then also like, part of me, I just feel like let's leave our computers behind and go out into the woods.
Speaker 2:
[03:24] I always yell at my managers like, will you go home? Like it is 730.
Speaker 1:
[03:27] It's hard. I know, but they have to work hard. Everybody has to work hard. There's no real hours anymore either.
Speaker 2:
[03:33] That's what the computer did.
Speaker 1:
[03:35] Big time.
Speaker 2:
[03:36] Big time.
Speaker 1:
[03:37] I know. And our phones, not to mention the actual computer. So anyway, Carrie, Carrie's calling Aiden. He doesn't pick up. She leaves a message. She hangs up. She hangs up. And then I make her go, Charlotte makes her go to the African dance class. And I remember this. It was really cute. It was so cute. And anytime we had any dancing, even if it was like a casual something, we would have this choreographer come in because Sarah and I are so anxious about any dancing. Yeah, so we had a choreographer. Thank you.
Speaker 2:
[04:03] Thank you. You were trying so hard.
Speaker 1:
[04:04] I was trying, because that's Charlotte, right? Charlotte tries everything so hard. Carrie's like just going to hop up and down. She's adorable though. She's got a thing on her head. Like, I mean, really, that I do remember. So I have like just little visions in my memory of the real life. But I don't remember the storylines, right? Like, I couldn't have told you, I remember African dancing, but I couldn't have told you what we were talking about. You know what I'm saying? But I remember it was really fun. It was really, really fun. It was fun. They start, there's like a phase where at one phase I go tap dancing. Charlotte tap dances. I had to learn that. Like Charlotte plays tennis. I had to learn that. Like, there's a lot of things Charlotte likes to do that I had to learn. But it was a good time. You know what I mean? It's part of the fun of being an actor, right? Oh, oh, and then we're talking about the internet. And I just say, I say that they're shopping. And Carrie's like, no, shopping is my cardio. Which is not what we shop online.
Speaker 2:
[04:56] It was really good.
Speaker 1:
[04:57] It was so good. And so true.
Speaker 2:
[04:59] No, no, no, no, no. That's my cardio.
Speaker 1:
[05:01] Right, but little does she know, a whole world is about to open up to us.
Speaker 2:
[05:05] About to click.
Speaker 1:
[05:05] You can shop 24 seven.
Speaker 2:
[05:08] Insane. So it's a problem.
Speaker 1:
[05:11] Very, very dangerous. Very, very dangerous. And then she writes, she writes the email to Aiden. And it really reminded me of what comes later in our lives of, and just like that, when she's sending him the heart postcards, it's funny because like back in the old, we have the whole throwing the pebbles at the window, which also comes back later. And then they're writing each other. She writes him an email that she obsesses over, but all she writes is I miss you. But then later on, she's gonna do when they're apart, she's gonna do little postcards where she just puts a heart and mails it like they have certain through lines that I think are so sweet and adorable. I know, but it couldn't work out. It's sad. And then, so she's stressing, but I like to see Carrie stressing about Aiden more than I'd like to see her stressing about Big. Yeah, somehow it's, she needs to earn it. You know, I feel like she needs to earn his attention again, you know, and she does, which is great because I do also think when I watch them, their chemistry is so great.
Speaker 2:
[06:14] So good. So good. Yeah, those are two actors when they work together. I'm like, they're very much in love. I'm like, oh, they're acting.
Speaker 1:
[06:21] No, but I mean, it's incredible, right? They're not, they were in other things. You know, Sarah was married to Matthew, but they really work. They really work and they're good friends, which is nice in life. Like it was always a great working relationship. So this is when we decide that we would like to have a baby. But then we have this group of people that we've never seen before, but that I run into shopping, which is kind of funny that have the three kids that are like a handful.
Speaker 2:
[06:47] And Charlotte breaks my heart every time because that's what I feel like when I see other people with like everything in real. Yeah, I'm also like totally perfect and we're great and you should come over and nothing's hard. And we got this. And I'm like, oh, that pressure.
Speaker 1:
[07:01] Yeah, I think that's the worst.
Speaker 2:
[07:03] I think that's why I'm more vulnerable and honest being like, we're falling apart.
Speaker 1:
[07:06] You know, I think that's true. You know, I think that's great because I think that the facade and trying to keep up the facade is exhausting.
Speaker 2:
[07:13] And that's what Instagram is. And it's too hard.
Speaker 1:
[07:15] Exactly.
Speaker 2:
[07:16] I'm telling you right now, I do not post the hard stuff. And one week we had strep throat while shooting a music video. I had the strep throat while my son had a crazy infection and my other son had diarrhea and pink eye. And it was a mess. And I was just like, could we have a break?
Speaker 1:
[07:31] No, that's the reality. Yeah, that's like the kids. One time when my daughter was little, I was going to be a judge on Project Runway and I was excited to do it. I was like, you know, she was teething and whatever. So the night before I had to go, I was up all night. She was laying on me, you know, when they have to lay on you to go back to sleep. And I went and talking about comments, I remember seeing a comment, I don't know if it was social media or whatever, I don't know what time that was. But, and it said, cause my eyes were, looked a little crazy. And they were like, wow, I didn't know Kristin had a crazy eye. And I was like, but I was up all night with my toddler like laying on me.
Speaker 2:
[08:08] But you can't, you know. They don't know. We promise you don't know everything.
Speaker 1:
[08:12] Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 2:
[08:13] We're like digging for boogers right before we get on stage, you know.
Speaker 1:
[08:17] I do think it's important to say stuff like that though. I think that's really refreshing. Yeah, because the facade is nonsense. And I don't know how or why people try to keep it up.
Speaker 2:
[08:30] Yeah.
Speaker 1:
[08:30] You know, I mean, my thing is I don't put my kids on there just because I want to protect them because I've watched some of my friends with the stuff and I feel worried. But if I did, I would want to put the real thing. But I don't. But then, you know, whatever. So I don't put anything. But I don't know if that like sometimes I don't even know if my followers know I have kids. I have no idea. It's interesting, the tray of it all, because I can't tell if he really wants the kids, because he's so-
Speaker 2:
[09:07] Yeah, I can't tell either. Right?
Speaker 1:
[09:09] He's so kind of like veiled, like he doesn't seem excited, really.
Speaker 2:
[09:13] Not like Charlotte is. Right?
Speaker 1:
[09:15] And I think that's also why I, and then we don't have sex after the people come over with the kids, which I do understand. And then I ordered this rattle, which I remember this part, and it was, it's kind of sad, you know? But then he's kind of sweet about it.
Speaker 2:
[09:32] Yeah.
Speaker 1:
[09:32] Like he forgot, he ordered this rattle, and then he writes this incredibly sweet thing about, you know, we had each other, then we had you, and then we had everything.
Speaker 2:
[09:44] Yeah, no. He goes back and forth for me a lot, because I'm like, I forgive you, you're perfect. And I'm like, what are you doing? Yeah.
Speaker 1:
[09:50] Right.
Speaker 2:
[09:51] So they're really sweet. And that episode just made me really sad for Charlotte, because I was craving kids, you know, I know that feeling. And a lot of people don't have that feeling at all. And then I think about couples who are madly in love and one really wants kids and one really doesn't. And it's like, how do you even go anywhere from there?
Speaker 1:
[10:09] I don't know how to go anywhere from there, because I feel like wanting kids or not wanting kids is like a sacred thing.
Speaker 2:
[10:16] Yeah.
Speaker 1:
[10:16] And you shouldn't try to push anybody. But I feel like when I watch with Trey, because intellectually, I know, well, he doesn't really, because he doesn't hang in there, right? So we know that he didn't really. But also, even when he's saying super sweet things, you don't get a feeling. His feelings don't come out, which I think is also partly why Harry is so much better for Charlotte, which we haven't gotten to yet. But you know how he feels. You know, it's present, it's vivid. Whereas Trey just talks about it. And Charlotte is always in this wondering kind of a, does he mean it? You know, sad. It's kind of sad.
Speaker 2:
[10:52] You think that so well.
Speaker 1:
[10:53] Thank you. I feel like I also was in that state of like, what's happening? What does he want? Like it was all very relatable. Not in real life with Kyle, obviously, but like the not knowing. I feel like that was the time of life where like, I didn't really know what I wanted either. And Charlotte wanted what she wanted, but it was kind of like this mirage. It wasn't really like a real visceral. And she was trying, I feel like she was trying to project it on a tray and it didn't really work, but I think that's also so relatable. Like people do this all the time. You know? Yeah. It's hard. It's hard to know. And then we have this crazy baby talk situation with Samantha.
Speaker 2:
[11:35] Oh my God, it was so good.
Speaker 1:
[11:36] Is it?
Speaker 2:
[11:37] Yeah, it was hilarious. Every part of Samantha's scenes are hilarious where she was talking about the fake nipples and like having them out and seeing if it works.
Speaker 1:
[11:46] I had forgotten about that too.
Speaker 2:
[11:47] When she starts making out with the guy and those are real things. Stop it.
Speaker 1:
[11:51] Yes.
Speaker 2:
[11:52] When she starts making out with the guy and I'm like, what's she going to do with the nipples? And she reaches in like, like it was choreographed, dude. Like I want to know how she planned that scene out. Just so smoothly and was like, bam, I'm here.
Speaker 1:
[12:05] That's true.
Speaker 2:
[12:06] It was great.
Speaker 1:
[12:06] It was smooth.
Speaker 2:
[12:07] You're absolutely right.
Speaker 1:
[12:08] It was smooth. But also it's funny because I remember that they were real and that we were all like, what on earth? Like, you know what I mean? But like when Miranda puts them on and walks to the front, like it's quite something.
Speaker 2:
[12:19] They're gorgeous. I know it's weird though.
Speaker 1:
[12:22] It's kind of odd. Like, and I don't know what happened to them. Like that was a thing you could buy.
Speaker 2:
[12:26] That's crazy.
Speaker 1:
[12:27] I know, I know. And I remember we, I feel like the lady who came up with the idea and marketed it, like came to the set and we chatted with her and we were all kind of like, I think so. But it was also really odd. Did you mean? Like really odd.
Speaker 2:
[12:42] Congrats on your nipple invention.
Speaker 1:
[12:46] Really odd, right? But like when they put them on, it looks quite amazing. I don't think I would want to walk around like that though.
Speaker 2:
[12:53] Oh yeah. So I'm like every day, especially since my boob job, I can't feel really well around there, which is so sad. So I am always like, we got to cover these up in case they're popping and I don't even know, you know? Totally.
Speaker 1:
[13:06] That's interesting.
Speaker 2:
[13:07] It's very interesting.
Speaker 1:
[13:08] I never had a good job contrary to whatever people say online. I have no idea. Like they think I've had a boob job. I don't even know, but I've never had a boob job, but it would be strange not to be able to feel.
Speaker 2:
[13:17] I don't like it. Apparently I could have prevented it by like massaging it. So now I'm sad, but- But will it come back? I hope so. A lot of like people who worked me after like PT or lymphatic drainage are like, oh no. And I'm like, you look worried, but I'll figure it out.
Speaker 1:
[13:35] I feel like the nerves can grow back. I don't know for sure. We should find out.
Speaker 2:
[13:38] We should find out.
Speaker 1:
[13:39] Someone write in to us.
Speaker 2:
[13:41] Help us.
Speaker 1:
[13:43] Okay. And then wait, now we're to Miranda. Man, I'd fully, fully forgotten about this storyline. Also, isn't that actor a little bit odd?
Speaker 2:
[13:51] Yeah.
Speaker 1:
[13:51] The running guy.
Speaker 2:
[13:52] Yeah. The whole thing was all odd. But I was like, this is so Miranda.
Speaker 1:
[13:55] It's very, very, very Miranda. She's so adorable when she goes to run. It's like the cutest thing.
Speaker 2:
[14:02] The way she runs too.
Speaker 1:
[14:05] I think she's trying to look like a professional, dirty me, because I don't think she's really a runner, right? Because previously we haven't really seen Miranda. Like Charlotte is always the one who's running. I would always try to really run like right or whatever.
Speaker 2:
[14:18] Yeah. You're an athlete. Yeah.
Speaker 1:
[14:20] Not really.
Speaker 2:
[14:20] She's so cute though.
Speaker 1:
[14:21] She's so cute. And then she meets this guy and he says like, oh, we should run together and she doesn't know if it means anything. And then they're at home having sex because of course, back in the olden days, everyone just like went home and had sex really quickly.
Speaker 2:
[14:34] I know.
Speaker 1:
[14:35] It seems like, I know it's interesting, right? She's stinky. It didn't enter my mind, but I know exactly what you're saying, but it didn't even enter my mind. It didn't even enter my mind.
Speaker 2:
[14:44] Her sweating after running a marathon?
Speaker 1:
[14:46] Didn't enter my mind. Did not enter my mind.
Speaker 2:
[14:47] You didn't think about it when he was going down on her butt and you're like, Stinky sweat butt?
Speaker 1:
[14:50] It 100 percent did not enter my mind.
Speaker 2:
[14:53] We call that swath.
Speaker 1:
[14:54] That's gross. That's really gross.
Speaker 2:
[14:56] Yeah.
Speaker 1:
[14:57] I don't know what you call it. Yeah, I know. I didn't even enter my mind. But I did think, I'll tell you what I did think about. So then we have this scene where she asks us about it, where Miranda was like throwing it out to all of us. Like, is that weird? And Charlotte, who am I? I'm Charlotte. And I'm like, well, you know, we do it. And everyone's like, what? I remember people have talked to me about that over the years. Occasionally they'll be like, oh, remember that time when Charlotte was like, yeah. And I was like, no, I don't really remember that.
Speaker 2:
[15:25] It was kind of embarrassing. It was shocking because like everyone went up. And it was about because he wanted her to eat his butt.
Speaker 1:
[15:31] In the end. Yeah.
Speaker 2:
[15:32] In the end.
Speaker 1:
[15:33] Yeah.
Speaker 2:
[15:33] And she was worried about that. And she was like, yeah, I want to do it. Right. Which I haven't participated in either. And I don't think men are very hairy and messy.
Speaker 1:
[15:43] I can't even think about it.
Speaker 2:
[15:44] I can't even think about it. Yeah. But the best was sweet Charlotte at the end being like, well, yeah, I do everything because I just want to be the best at everything. And so of course I would.
Speaker 1:
[15:54] I know. I do like it when we throw a little curve ball. You know what I mean?
Speaker 2:
[15:57] You're like, oh, of course she would.
Speaker 1:
[15:59] I think it's good. I think it's good because it is surprising. And I love it when the girls are surprised.
Speaker 2:
[16:04] That's great writing.
Speaker 1:
[16:05] I agree.
Speaker 2:
[16:05] I agree.
Speaker 1:
[16:06] Totally. I agree. Totally. So wait, did we cover the Aidan and the end? The end was so good with Aidan.
Speaker 2:
[16:14] Even like the DP who is now the director.
Speaker 1:
[16:16] Yes.
Speaker 2:
[16:17] Like for folks at home watching, not knowing what a DP is, because I had a lot of music videos. Director of photography. So they like make everything visually so pleasing. Down to lighting, down to what camera, what lens. So for that person to go to director to, like that makes so much sense, because I remember when she flies to the door, like the way her fabric literally is flying, she looks like a fairy princess to go get her man, the man of her dreams. And like the door opens and she jumps in. I was like, please jump, jump, jump, jump.
Speaker 1:
[16:46] It's slow-mo, it's so good. I always love slow-mo so much. But also when she first sees him, the lighting in general is really good. And I do feel like when you get a DP who then wants to direct, they're going to come to things visually first, right? Like that's going to be their strong storytelling. And it's really good. It's really, really good. I did really like it. I did really like it. All right, let's talk about your album.
Speaker 2:
[17:24] Yeah, I have an album that I've been promoting for a while now. It's finally coming out. It's called Toy With Me, April 24th. It'll be here.
Speaker 1:
[17:30] And this is the album that has the song about I just don't care.
Speaker 2:
[17:33] Yeah.
Speaker 1:
[17:33] Okay, great.
Speaker 2:
[17:34] It's like, I still don't care. And I have Getting Girl, a big song written about a big breakup in my family that I watched that was sad. So I'm the ultimate hype girl. I will be there for you, girl. If you're going through something in life, I will be there for you. And then my next single that comes out in a week called Shimmer and it is the ultimate dance workout, like self-love anthem. Like if you need something to play in the gym or when you're getting ready to go out or in general on a Tuesday before work, you play Shimmer and you'll thank me. Very confident, very fun upbeat. The music video is so fun. I trained for weeks learning how to dance.
Speaker 1:
[18:13] Incredible.
Speaker 2:
[18:14] I was full Charlotte and I slayed and I morphed into Samantha by the music video.
Speaker 1:
[18:20] Fantastic. And when you're doing that and you're training, like how do you go about it? Is there a choreographer who's teaching you?
Speaker 2:
[18:26] A choreographer, there's a choreographer. There's, we also had one of Beyonce's dancers, Darius Hickman, I love you so much, come and literally train me when she couldn't be there. And so there's a lot of people just out of love to helping me on this video because they knew how nervous I was and how I haven't danced in so long. And I didn't, I wasn't raised like a professional dancer. I didn't have training, so this was it. And it came out so well and I'm so proud of it. It's like my favorite music video I've ever done. So I can't wait for the world to see that.
Speaker 1:
[18:58] Yay. I'm so excited. You already told us you're Charlotte, but can I just technically ask you, are you a Charlotte?
Speaker 2:
[19:05] I am 100% Charlotte. I'm honored to be, I love Charlotte.
Speaker 1:
[19:10] I love it. And you're all in pink. Very beautiful. I love it.
Speaker 2:
[19:14] I should wear this.
Speaker 1:
[19:14] You're so sweet to come and be with us, Meghan.
Speaker 2:
[19:16] I love you so much. My mom loves you so much.
Speaker 1:
[19:18] My mom, she's watching this. She's freaking out.
Speaker 2:
[19:20] Hi Kelly. She's great.
Speaker 1:
[19:21] Hi Kelly. Thank you for watching the show and showing it to Meghan.
Speaker 2:
[19:26] Yeah. Thanks for teaching me the ways.
Speaker 1:
[19:28] Love it. Love it. You got to teach everybody the ways you guys. Thank you. We're going to be looking forward to all your new music. It's exciting. I'm happy for you.
