Speaker 2:
[00:58] Donald Trump and the extremists, they started this redistricting war. But we made clear from the very beginning that we would finish it.
Speaker 3:
[01:05] Did they follow the same playbook they condemned Texas Republicans for using? Plus, as the war in Iran hits the two-month mark, how the president's boast is getting blowback after he extends the ceasefire again.
Speaker 4:
[01:19] I would have won Vietnam very quickly. I would have if I were president.
Speaker 3:
[01:24] Then, Oscar winner Charlize Theron talks about going all in on death-defying stunts in her pulse-pounding new thriller, Apex. And Oprah Daily is celebrating Earth Day with amazing eco-friendly items on View Your Deal. Here come hot topics with Whoopi, Sara Haines, Joy Behar, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin. Now, let's get things started.
Speaker 5:
[02:30] Let's tell you what's been going on. So right now, Democrats are celebrating a narrow victory in Virginia after voters said yes to a redistricting referendum that was backed by Governor Abigail Spanberger. But former Virginia Governor Glenn Youngins claims it's an unfair power grab. Oh, take a look.
Speaker 6:
[02:52] Two-thirds of Virginians said we want politics out, politicians out, and now we have Abigail Spanberger saying she's going to ignore the voice of Virginians, override them, and try to adopt the most gerrymandered map in America.
Speaker 2:
[03:07] Big victory tonight in Virginia, where the voters of the Commonwealth have helped to stop the mega power grab. Donald Trump and the extremists, they started this redistricting war. But we made clear from the very beginning that we would finish it. These clowns have been playing checkers, and we're gonna continue to play three-dimensional chess. When they go low, we hit back. Hard.
Speaker 5:
[03:37] Now, you know, it's like, this is for me really, like, where's it gonna end? Because Texas did this, then California said, no, no, we're gonna do this. Now Virginia said, listen, we're gonna ask our people what they want, as did the folks in California, and you want to do this, California people said, yeah, we don't like what's happening. So you can't say, you know, clutch your pearls and go, oh my God, I can't believe you did this. This is what happens when you, well, no, I'm not even gonna say it because I don't want to get in trouble. But, you know.
Speaker 7:
[04:12] It's fun to watch the Democrats find their testicularity.
Speaker 5:
[04:18] I do understand, yes.
Speaker 7:
[04:19] And with some of the Republicans churning on Trump also, my best friend Marjorie Taylor Greene wrote on X, she wrote on X last night, a once red state is churning into one of the bluest states because people don't want to support Republicans now. It's kind of heartwarming, isn't it?
Speaker 5:
[04:38] But I think you have to make a distinction because I don't think they don't want to support Republicans. I think they don't want to support the MAGA. Yeah.
Speaker 8:
[04:48] And the ones who are in office in Congress right now.
Speaker 7:
[04:50] But that's part of the party.
Speaker 9:
[04:51] But to your point, Whoopi, the Republican Party did start this. They started it in Texas and they didn't do it by the will of the people. They didn't have an election. They didn't put it on the ballot. They did it within the legislature and Texas stole, well, redistricted and took five seats. So California, which has the GDP of a small country, basically said, I'll see your five and I'm gonna get you five. So then the Democrats got five. I thought it should have ended there. But if you look at it, then North Carolina got involved. The Republicans started little by little chipping away, taking away the will of the people. And now you've got Virginia saying, we're gonna take it to the people, not the legislature. We're gonna take it to the people and the people now have spoken. And now the Democrats have a 10 to 9 advantage in the House. And I've got to tell you, when they go low, I think you go to the Earth's crust. You gotta meet the freaking energy.
Speaker 8:
[05:44] Okay, so as we speak, we may not remember, the government is still in a partial shutdown. This is one of the worst Congresses in modern history, in my opinion. The approval ratings speak for themselves. Only 10% of Americans approve of Congress. Only 29% of congressional Republicans, only 24% approve of congressional Dems. People don't like what's happening. They don't feel like Congress is solving issues for them. And where I take issues with this-
Speaker 7:
[06:08] Why blame the Democrats? They're in the minority.
Speaker 8:
[06:09] Hands down, this was a win for Democrats last night. But both sides engage in partisan gerrymandering and it's ruining our country. What you have is now a map where you're gonna have somebody representing you who lives 200, 300 miles away, rather than in your local community. Republicans do it, then Democrats do. It reminds me of dark money. We're like, dark money needs to be out of politics. Billionaires behind, you know, whatever, shouldn't be able to buy elections, yet both parties then go and take money from dark money. Be the change you want to see. I think it's wrong when anyone does it.
Speaker 9:
[06:40] But why did they start it?
Speaker 8:
[06:40] We've been doing this for decades. We should end partisan gerrymandering. No, we should actually elect people who want to stand on moral principle, who want to end it, who want to do more proportional representation.
Speaker 10:
[06:51] So you actually, Alyssa, it's way before Trump. It's bringing in, it's interesting that on the heels of watching three people resign from Congress due to everything from sexual misconduct to bribery and fraud, all these things. I care less about the numbers and more about the quality of people we're putting there. Because what we're seeing is all this give and take, we'll get these names, we'll get, and then you see the people we're putting into DC and it's stomach turning. Because we have got to put more emphasis less on the party they represent and more the policies and the people they represent. Because we're not getting those candidates. A good example is right now with this gerrymandering back and forth, what Democrats aren't doing is we do have a good look coming into the midterms. The Democrats look really good. But let's focus on garnering some of this bench leadership we have. We have some great people in the Democratic Party and we watched in Texas when Jasmine Crockett, who has a lot of name recognition, was very anti-Trump. She lost to James Talarico, who I'd never heard about, because he was going door to door with Pragmatic Solutions. It's actually a bipartisan thing to be common sense. It really is. So I'd like to see the quality of people running these public service offices increase before I care about the numbers.
Speaker 5:
[08:02] Well, I'm going to tell you something, because you are right in your thought process. But until the Republicans stop saying, we're doing this, because they were very clear about why they were doing it. We don't want this group to have this representation. Once you do that, they're fighting words and there's nothing you can do.
Speaker 9:
[08:24] Well, Florida wants to do it again.
Speaker 5:
[08:26] But what you're saying is correct. You want the right people for the job. But you don't want to take away John's vote because he wears a green suit and you only want people with orange suit. You can't do, I love your suit by the way. You know, you can't, that's what needs to stop.
Speaker 8:
[08:44] The problem is that gerrymandering is often why it's so hard to vote bad people out of office. If you look at some of the least productive, the most defensive members, they are in such, they're in districts that are drawn so partisan, Republican plus 30 districts, you cannot vote them out. Same thing happens on the left. And then what happens is when pragmatic, middle of the road people are in office. Adam Kinzinger, who I think everyone at this table respects in Illinois, his seat got drawn out in Democratic gerrymandering. Well, that's what happened with Jasmine Crawford.
Speaker 5:
[09:14] She got removed, her seat got removed.
Speaker 10:
[09:16] Did she get removed?
Speaker 8:
[09:17] No, no she didn't. She did in the new year.
Speaker 10:
[09:19] Oh, and then she couldn't.
Speaker 8:
[09:22] But you lose, you tend to lose moderates in gerrymandering. And I think most of this country is more moderate.
Speaker 7:
[09:26] Do you think Trump will invade Virginia now?
Speaker 10:
[09:30] He's got a lot on his plate right now.
Speaker 9:
[09:33] I think we need to look forward because now you have Governor DeSantis in Florida saying, you know what, we're going to gerrymander again. And so I think what Hakeem Jeffries, the speaker, is saying, the minority speaker is saying, that was directly, I think, to Governor DeSantis. Florida, you want to do that? Let's see what New York is going to do.
Speaker 5:
[09:51] Well, you know, what's awful is that people are winning on their own merit. What's happening in Florida, Florida has a new mayor in Miami, people are winning on their own. They don't need to do this. This is the point. You don't need to cheat.
Speaker 8:
[10:08] But it's uniquely bad to Congress. Because see, a mayor can win, knocking on doors to Sara's point, winning the vote. Congress, we carve out these things.
Speaker 5:
[10:14] But still, you know there are good people out there. There are people who want to do this. But people don't want to start to run and then get removed because you've changed the map. Leave the map alone. Just leave the map alone. Let people decide who they want and what they want. This is not, you don't own the government. We own the government. We own the government. Everybody stop with the redistricting. Let people win on their own merit. Because cheating doesn't work. Cheating just makes it worse. We'll be right back.
Speaker 3:

Speaker 5:
[13:01] Welcome back, welcome back. Now, you know who decided to extend the ceasefire in Iran yesterday, just hours after making these claims on CNBC. Take a look.
Speaker 4:
[13:12] What I think is that we're gonna end up with a great deal. I think it's got, I think they have no choice. We've taken out their Navy, we've taken out their Air Force, we've taken out their leaders. It is regime change, no matter what you wanna call it. I would have won Vietnam very quickly. I would have, if I were president.
Speaker 7:
[13:30] First of all, you have to show up. He never showed up for Vietnam.
Speaker 5:
[13:33] Well, he could have gone to Vietnam, yeah.
Speaker 7:
[13:35] The closest he ever came is he watched, you know, that movie about Vietnam. What is it?
Speaker 10:
[13:39] There are many movies.
Speaker 5:
[13:40] There are many movies. There's a few. Apocalypse Now?
Speaker 7:
[13:43] That's a good one.
Speaker 5:
[13:44] Okay. JD Vance also postponed his trip to negotiate peace talks. So, I mean, we're glad he didn't obliterate civilization. We're very happy for that outcome. Happy that he's postponed this. But we all talk about him every day. What is it gonna take for him to end this? What do you think it's gonna take for him to end this? Cause you know he can never say he lost.
Speaker 8:
[14:13] Yeah. I think he desperately wants an off-ramp. I think he realizes this is deeply unpopular. Energy prices are up. People don't wanna see American troops tied up in another Middle East conflict. But I think in the first term, Trump kind of benefited from this madman theory of him, where he would say wild things and our America's adversaries would be like, he just might be crazy enough to do it. Unfortunately, I think the Iranians are calling his bluff. I think that now he's made these outrageous claims, not followed through. He's laid down his own red lines that I'm certain advisors did not want him to lay down. And then he's had to back up. In that scare, the Iranians are sophisticated. They are dangerous. They are ideologues, but they are sophisticated and they understand us. And they're not coming to the table right now. And I think that Trump thinks I can just give them some sanctions relief. I can give them some money and they'll cut a deal. He's misunderstanding the Iranian regime. They are ideologues. They are hellbent on their ideological desire for destruction of the West. And they're not just going to cave for some billions of dollars we give them. And my final point being, as somebody who opposed Obama's Iran deal, I criticized it because it gave them billions in sanctions relief. That is where this ultimately ends. It's him doing something likely even worse that they will then use to sow terrorism across the region.
Speaker 7:
[15:26] Did you find it interesting that every time he makes a decision, it sort of coincides with the stock market? Right before he decides something, the stock market goes up. It's almost like the inside of trading. They know that something's gonna happen which manipulates the stock market. So now it goes up, okay, they made money. Now he'll say something, it's going down, they buy. I mean, I find it very suspicious and they really need to be looking into this in Congress. I'm sorry.
Speaker 8:
[15:55] Well, it benefits the wealthy who can sit on their money and can deal with the volatility. It hurts the poor who maybe you're taking out your pension next month or you want to and suddenly the market drops.
Speaker 7:
[16:06] But most people don't say I'm gonna buy now because it's low. They sort of let their accountants figure these things out.
Speaker 8:
[16:11] Right, but waiting out the volatility is something that the wealthy have to do.
Speaker 9:
[16:15] And because Strait of Hormuz is now closed, it is affecting, I think, the stock market and it's affecting everyday Americans. It's affecting their pockets. You know, I just read that this war is estimated to have already cost us $50 billion. $50 billion, which is more money than this country has spent since World War II. And then in 2027, this president is asking for $1.5 trillion for defense, which would be more money spent in modern history on war.
Speaker 7:
[16:49] Why don't they just get rid of them already?
Speaker 9:
[16:50] This is unbelievable. I think what the American people want is good health. They want, right? They want good health care. They want good education. They want good housing. They don't want to spend $50 billion in a war of choice that is unconstitutional. Not a war of choice. Illegal. It was his choice. It was his choice. It's a war of choice. And for this president to say, I'm going to end a war, well, sir, you started the war. You shouldn't have started it in the first place. Yeah.
Speaker 7:
[17:20] What do American people supposed to do with it? You know, what are they supposed to do?
Speaker 5:
[17:25] What are they supposed to do? They're supposed to do what we always do. You make sure you're taking care of your family. You change the things you can change. You take care of the stuff you can take care of. Because this is, we can kvetch and bitch about this all we want to. We don't have the power to get anything done until midterms, you know. We don't have the power to change what they're doing. But we can say we don't like it and continue to do all our marches. We can continue to do everything because that's what you can do in your power.
Speaker 7:
[17:54] His numbers are in the toilet.
Speaker 5:
[17:55] His numbers are in the toilet. But people have to recognize what they can handle.
Speaker 9:
[18:02] But am I wrong Whoopi? Or Alyssa, I thought by May 1st, Congress has to approve this ongoing war in Iran.
Speaker 8:
[18:10] The Senate keeps voting against an authorization for it, like having to put it forward for a full vote.
Speaker 9:
[18:15] Under the War Powers Act.
Speaker 10:
[18:17] So by May 1st, this is truly illegal.
Speaker 8:
[18:21] Yes, we've not been authorizing wars to Congress for decades. It's a shame. It's a shame on Congress. It's a shame on the White House for not seeking congressional approval.
Speaker 5:
[18:29] And that's why you can't depend on them. That's why this is in our hands and we have to, regardless of where you stand, this can't be good for anybody. This is our sons, our daughters, our mothers, our fathers. These are our families doing this. Okay? So this is on us. We gotta pay attention and we gotta get out and take care of business. That's as simple as that can make it for you. That's what you can do. That's the power you have. We'll be right back. Welcome back. So there is something that has come out that people are writing about, that there's too much specificity.
Speaker 9:
[19:21] Maxing.
Speaker 5:
[19:22] Maxing, you're doing stuff to the max, and they're suggesting maybe we should go back to doing stuff half-ass.
Speaker 9:
[19:31] Half-assing.
Speaker 8:
[19:32] Proponing it.
Speaker 5:
[19:32] That's a better thing.
Speaker 7:
[19:34] What do you mean, you're doing it to the max?
Speaker 10:
[19:35] So there's this term we've talked about here, nonamaxing, where people are trying to be grandmas before their age, looks maxing, where people are damaging their faces just to make them look like chiseled. It's all maxing out.
Speaker 8:
[19:46] Yes.
Speaker 10:
[19:46] We want to go back to the good old days of half-assing.
Speaker 8:
[19:49] Just phone it in. Just phone it in.
Speaker 9:
[19:50] Well, the looks maxing thing was fascinating to me. Alyssa and I were talking about it. There's this trend with young men, and they think that looks are everything, character is not as enduring as the looks, and they're literally using hammers to chisel at their faces.
Speaker 8:
[20:07] Hammers.
Speaker 9:
[20:08] To change, to swell their faces up, to change their musculature. And it's really terrifying. Well, they think that that angular look will attract more women.
Speaker 7:
[20:18] If you bang your face with a hammer.
Speaker 9:
[20:20] If you bang your face with a hammer.
Speaker 8:
[20:21] But the wild thing Sunny and I were talking about with this looks maxing trend, is all of these young men are going to learn that a guy who's like a six on the one to 10 scale, but has confidence in Riz, is going to steal your girl every time, even if you're a 10, but have no confidence. So before you start permanently changing yourself, work on yourself and your inner confidence.
Speaker 12:
[20:42] Can you imagine the moment at the table?
Speaker 7:
[20:43] Does that work for women too?
Speaker 5:
[20:45] What, yes.
Speaker 8:
[20:46] We all try to look maxing.
Speaker 5:
[20:47] Women learn the lesson, that's why you're not seeing those lips out here anymore. People are the minds out here.
Speaker 8:
[20:53] We've all been like, let's try it.
Speaker 10:
[20:54] Can you imagine when you're on the date and you think that guy's cute, you sit down and he starts to describe hammering his face with his hand, you're like, you know what, I'm not. I'm so hungry.
Speaker 9:
[21:03] I think it's happening with social media. People are showing their highlight reels and I think these young people think it's actually real and it's not.
Speaker 5:
[21:14] But a lot of stuff on social media isn't real.
Speaker 9:
[21:17] It's just not real.
Speaker 5:
[21:17] I mean, we've talked about the fact of people.
Speaker 10:
[21:18] They could have just used AI rather than a hammer.
Speaker 5:
[21:21] And so what, so you knock yourself out, then you have all of these bones.
Speaker 7:
[21:28] And no teeth.
Speaker 5:
[21:29] Yes, and no teeth. And all this bone marrow and dust floating around in here. So what are you gonna do when it starts to come up here where you don't want the maxing? Yeah. And then somebody goes to touch your face and then they can move it because it's-
Speaker 9:
[21:42] Yeah.
Speaker 7:
[21:43] Well, that's something over, you know, botoxing does also.
Speaker 9:
[21:46] But isn't it something though that men are doing it? Young men.
Speaker 7:
[21:49] Well, I noticed-
Speaker 10:
[21:51] That's what we're seeing.
Speaker 7:
[21:52] I noticed that the young men these days are worse than the girls used to be with their, like this, the obsession with their looks. Because girls learn. And they all have the same hair do.
Speaker 10:
[22:01] What are you doing?
Speaker 7:
[22:02] They have the little moth. They go forward and they're all the cologne counters at Sephora. They gather there. They all want to smell good. Well, that's good. Better than the way they used to smell.
Speaker 10:
[22:13] Haven't they ever heard of Axe body spray?
Speaker 16:
[22:15] A good old fashion.
Speaker 8:
[22:17] A little Abercrombie.
Speaker 7:
[22:19] No, they care about their clothes. Everything is all about this whole thing going on.
Speaker 8:
[22:25] The confidence in how you treat people will get you so much further in life than the most chiseled jawline ever was.
Speaker 5:
[22:32] Well, it's nice to think that that's so, but we've told young people and middle-aged people and old people that you have to be a certain way. Not look a certain way, you have to be a certain way.
Speaker 9:
[22:49] Character matters.
Speaker 5:
[22:49] And so until people figure out that you have to talk to the other people, you have to get to know somebody to know if you like them or not. It doesn't matter really what they look like. If they're a crappy person, you're gonna see it, even if they're the best looking person or the worst looking person. Crap floats. We'll be right back.
Speaker 7:
[23:09] If I had a heart...
Speaker 14:
[23:16] Is this hard to talk about?
Speaker 4:
[23:18] Yeah. Seattle grounds, about to take off.
Speaker 15:
[23:21] It's gonna be crazy.
Speaker 4:
[23:23] I did a kind of a bad thing.
Speaker 12:
[23:25] So you hijacked the plane?
Speaker 4:
[23:26] Uh, yeah.
Speaker 15:
[23:26] He hasn't flown an airplane before.
Speaker 17:
[23:28] How did he get that plane in the air pan?
Speaker 11:
[23:30] How did no one know?
Speaker 4:
[23:31] Hey, do you think this thing can do a barrel roll? Try to figure out how to use the autopilot first.
Speaker 17:
[23:36] Boring.
Speaker 18:
[23:37] He's going upside down.
Speaker 11:
[23:38] Holy s***, holy s***.
Speaker 14:
[23:41] Could we cut the cameras?
Speaker 4:
[23:42] This is probably like jail time for life, huh?
Speaker 17:

[24:22] Welcome back, Oscar-winner Charlize Theron really puts her body and soul into the new action thriller Apex, as a thrill seeker who gets trapped in a deadly game of cat and mouse with a ruthless predator. Take a look. Please welcome Charlize Theron.
Speaker 14:
[25:46] Yeah, okay, well.
Speaker 5:
[25:47] So, I might as well.
Speaker 14:
[25:48] So maybe, probably, yeah.
Speaker 5:
[25:49] Before we talk about the movie, I want to talk about your surprise appearance at the Olympics.
Speaker 14:
[25:55] Oh.
Speaker 5:
[25:56] Because you read a message of peace inspired by your fellow South African, Nelson Mandela.
Speaker 14:
[26:02] Yeah.
Speaker 5:
[26:03] What did it mean to you to do that speech?
Speaker 14:
[26:08] I'm so lucky that I come from a country with a man like that. It's like you can't pick a quote and go wrong. He's just, his words. And to, oh my gosh, don't. I like it so emotional. I love him so much. He, also, you know, that quote was said many years ago and I think is still so more than ever relevant today. And so it was really easy to kind of deliver that. And also very nice because I have such admiration for athletes, especially Olympic. I just, I take my hat off. I'm in awe. So to be even in close proximity to them was really amazing. Yeah.
Speaker 7:
[26:50] You're quite the athlete yourself.
Speaker 9:
[26:52] Yeah, that was, I'm a messy athlete.
Speaker 7:
[26:55] I don't know. I know you're a crazy athlete.
Speaker 9:
[26:58] Yeah.
Speaker 14:
[26:59] I think all of us are a little crazy.
Speaker 9:
[27:01] That was pretty impressive. But you know, it marks a full circle moment for you in a way because you started, the Olympics were in Milan and you started modeling in Milan when you were discovered at 16 years old after winning a local contest in South Africa. There you go. So what do you remember about the early days in Italy?
Speaker 14:
[27:23] It's like a second home. So yeah, going back is always lovely. I have fond memories because it was the first time after I left South Africa and I felt I was like a young adult. I was really free. And yeah, so I have I have really fond memories of like just being a young person dancing until the sun came up and then having a panini on the street and then taking a quick shower and then going to work and like functioning at top level. And now I'm like, I have a glass of champagne and I take any three days to work.
Speaker 10:
[27:56] Of course.
Speaker 14:
[27:57] So insane.
Speaker 10:
[27:58] Well, we have to talk about your new movie Apex. Oh my gosh. As someone who loves a thriller, suspense, horror, my heart was racing like I was right next to you from the beginning all the way to the end. So you and your co-star who's coming here this week, Taryn Edgerton, will be here on Friday, who I never knew he could be so scary.
Speaker 9:
[28:19] Yeah.
Speaker 10:
[28:20] But you shot this in the Australian Outback and you did, like you often do, so many of your own stunts, including the rock climbing. Tell us about it and what made you, as Joy would say, crazy enough to take this on?
Speaker 9:
[28:33] So you were hanging off that rock?
Speaker 14:
[28:35] Yeah, I did all of my own climbing. I had a good amount of prep and also, you know, I think we don't talk enough about the teams behind all of these action sequences. They're beautiful, beautiful people that keep us all safe and they're the ones that do all the legwork so that I can go be an idiot. They've like put all, but I got to, yeah, I got to learn how to climb.
Speaker 5:
[28:59] You could fall.
Speaker 15:
[29:00] Well, I am on a safety.
Speaker 14:
[29:01] I am on a safety, but the safety is always slack so that I'm actually really climbing because you can't really work.
Speaker 5:
[29:09] You gotta do the work. Oh my God.
Speaker 10:
[29:11] Are you doing all the falls and everything?
Speaker 14:
[29:12] Yeah, but you know what's interesting? Did you just see that? I'm doing the fall, but there's a guy falling with a camera.
Speaker 8:
[29:18] Oh, I never thought of that.
Speaker 14:
[29:21] I know about it.
Speaker 4:
[29:22] The camera. The camera.
Speaker 5:
[29:26] Simon there, a brilliant camera operator should get the applause.
Speaker 14:
[29:30] I mean, he's doing it with a camera. Look at him. There we go.
Speaker 9:
[29:35] Oh, wow.
Speaker 11:
[29:36] Simon.
Speaker 9:
[29:38] Oh my gosh.
Speaker 10:
[29:41] Well, and also from Mad Max Fury Road to Old Guard, you've really become known for these action movies and these roles. The last time you were here, you were talking about hanging off of a helicopter. And I think we saw that. Is there any physical challenge you won't take on?
Speaker 14:
[29:57] That's a hard one to, I see you're concerned. You want me to say that?
Speaker 7:
[30:01] Yeah, I wonder why you would do that.
Speaker 14:
[30:04] I, you know, it's not, I don't want to, I don't feel this need to kind of like up myself or I don't want to also just keep doing action movies. You know, I felt like this movie was very different from the martial arts stuff that I had done before. It's very straightforward. It's messy. It's like, you're being chased. He wants to kill you, get away. Are you going to survive? Like, you know, and that kind of scrappy action I really love. But I don't, I don't know, like, I feel like-
Speaker 7:
[30:31] What's your dream role?
Speaker 14:
[30:33] I don't have a dream role.
Speaker 7:
[30:34] Do you want to play in Shakespeare, for instance, or Ibsen?
Speaker 14:
[30:37] I don't know. It's like, I've never had that. I've never had like this dream idea. I've always kind of gotten material and then can't put it down. Like, I think that's always been my gauge. And I think more than anything, I like, I want to be in good movies. Like, this is a good movie. It's not like I'm gonna, it's like, it's a good movie, you guys.
Speaker 7:
[30:56] Yeah, I want to be in a good movie. Yeah.
Speaker 10:
[30:59] My question, one question following up on that, in your own life, just as a regular person, not an actor, are you a thrill seeker, or does the challenge come within the good movie part of it all?
Speaker 9:
[31:09] Yeah, like, do you just decide to hang off of rocks just for fun?
Speaker 8:
[31:13] Or helicopters for that matter?
Speaker 10:
[31:14] Yeah.
Speaker 14:
[31:15] I'm like, school drop in a helicopter. My children are being dropped. I am not like a crazy thrill seeker. I think I like a challenge, and I get excited by a challenge, but I'm not like out there going like, what can we do today that could probably kill me?
Speaker 10:
[31:32] Yeah.
Speaker 14:
[31:32] Yeah. I have two kids. I wanna go home. I wanna go home at the end of the day, you know?
Speaker 5:
[31:38] What people also don't understand, and one of the reasons people try to do their own stunts is because it makes the day flow better. Because if you have to stop for somebody else who has to be made up to look like you, who isn't you, it becomes, it puts time on the day. So you wanna get it done. And your safety coordinator is your best friend. Is your best friend.
Speaker 14:
[32:03] Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, they are incredible teams, truly.
Speaker 8:
[32:07] And you mentioned your kids. So you have two daughters, 14 and 11, fun ages, and they came to visit you. I haven't, I haven't.
Speaker 6:
[32:15] I have no idea.
Speaker 8:
[32:17] But I know they visited you in Australia while you were shooting.
Speaker 14:
[32:19] No, I love my kids, by the way. I'm just, they're teenagers. It's terrifying.
Speaker 6:
[32:22] I know.
Speaker 8:
[32:23] With girls especially.
Speaker 9:
[32:24] The question is, do they still like you right now?
Speaker 14:
[32:26] Oh, they do not. They're like, are you wearing that? I'm like, guys, be nice to me.
Speaker 8:
[32:30] That's what I was gonna ask. Are they, do they think you're a cool mom, or are they, are you an embarrassing mom? I can't imagine you being embarrassing.
Speaker 14:
[32:36] No, I think it's like every, you know, it's like, I'm their mom, just I think other kids treat their moms as how they treat me, you know, they're my, yeah, they're just, they're lovely. They, they make me feel very normal, almost too normal. I would prefer if they made me feel a little less normal.
Speaker 5:
[32:56] It's gonna take some time.
Speaker 14:
[32:58] But this is the lovely thing. It's because they are, they are not wallflowers. They are strong and opinionated, and all these things are gonna serve them so well in life, but I might not be around.
Speaker 7:
[33:10] So, there's another aspect of your personality, which is already exciting to me, and scary. I hear that you're a wordle freak. And that you do wordle with the great Carol Burnett, right? Tell me a little about that. I love puzzles.
Speaker 14:
[33:28] She's either really, really good, or just a cheat. We've talked about this a lot. No, I think she actually, now we've played for a long time, and I actually now think she's just brilliant.
Speaker 9:
[33:39] Did she get it like in one or two?
Speaker 14:
[33:41] She got it in one, two days ago.
Speaker 9:
[33:43] What?
Speaker 14:
[33:43] Yeah, and she plays with her husband, so it's like they team up, and I'm like, I need a husband just for this.
Speaker 8:
[33:49] I need to beat Carol Burnett.
Speaker 5:
[33:52] You're fine. Thanks to Charlize Theron. Apex premieres Friday on Netflix. Do yourself a favor. It's a thrill. It's a thrill. Check it out. We'll be right back.
Speaker 9:
