Speaker 1:
[00:04] I have no idea, I'm going to guess down to the local pool hall where guys hang out.
Speaker 2:
[00:09] No, is that where guys hang out?
Speaker 1:
[00:11] That's where guys hang out, not in the local pool hall, or Moe's, Moe's Tavern. Is alcoholic, is there an alcoholic?
Speaker 3:
[00:18] Al-coholic? Is there an alcoholic here?
Speaker 1:
[00:23] Is that Oliver Clothesoff? Is there an Oliver Clothesoff here? Where's Oliver Clothesoff? Do you know what I'm doing over here?
Speaker 2:
[00:30] I don't know.
Speaker 4:
[00:31] It's going to be funny because the podcast doesn't include that song, so they're going to be like, what is he talking about?
Speaker 1:
[00:35] Well, I'm doing Moe from The Simpsons, because Bart calls down and he's like, hi, I'm calling for Al-coholic. Hold on a second. Is there an alcoholic in here? One of you has got to be an alcoholic.
Speaker 5:
[00:47] Hello, I'm Paging Amanda, Amanda Hug and Kiss.
Speaker 1:
[00:51] Okay, hold on.
Speaker 5:
[00:51] Amanda Hug and Kiss.
Speaker 1:
[00:52] Amanda, is there Amanda Hug and Kiss? I need Amanda Hug and Kiss. Somebody come over here if you get Amanda to Hug and Kiss.
Speaker 2:
[01:00] You're going to hurt your throat.
Speaker 1:
[01:02] Probably so. Did you have a good day yesterday? It was beautiful.
Speaker 2:
[01:06] So nice.
Speaker 1:
[01:06] Gorgeous. Got outside, a little walk. Bailey did a massive walk yesterday.
Speaker 5:
[01:12] I walked about five and a half miles yesterday, which it feels like, it doesn't feel like a massive walk, like, oh, there's only five hours, but it takes you two hours to do it. So it seems like a while.
Speaker 1:
[01:21] No, that's great. And walking is so good for you. I was talking to a trainer the other day, and they were giving me tips on weight loss, and walking is right in there. Cardio is great, but a lot of the time you do cardio, and it makes you too tired to do weight lifting. So weight lifting, tracking your macros, walking, lots of water, avoiding alcohol, sleep. Yeah, I'm sorry about that. You're not a big drinker anyway. You hardly drink at all.
Speaker 4:
[01:51] I'm like a margarita, yesterday we did skewers on the grill, and so I had a little margarita with them, which by the way, I was outside, and I had to mask my manliness. I told you last year I finally learned how to light a propane gas grill. But last year was the first time I did it. Yesterday, we went outside and cooked on the grill, and I had forgot, but I couldn't go out there and be like, I don't know, Alyssa, you do it. Alyssa's my fiance. So I had to look up a TikTok video in private to be like, okay, turn it on, ignite, press the ignition, okay, then turn it on. All right, got it, got it, honey. Yeah, I know how to do this.
Speaker 1:
[02:22] You know, it seems so natural. It's like, it's like, well, of course, you know how to do that. But if you've never done it before, it's like, never, never done it. Something that I had to do, I had a physical about two weeks ago, and then they're like, okay, we're going to send you the results on my chart. I mean, everybody knows what my chart is, right? The portal. And so I got results about a week ago, and I'm like, I don't want to look at them. Susan, look at them. She's like, it's just saying that your results are pending. Okay. Yesterday, the results came in, and I don't want to look at my results, because I'm worried that it's going to say, you gon die. Like, your kidney levels and your cholesterol levels and your salt and your gravy levels are too high, because I worry about my gravy levels, because I do enjoy a lot of gravy.
Speaker 5:
[03:05] Or you like read them poorly, and it says like negative, and you're like, negative, negative's bad. It's like, no, negative's good.
Speaker 1:
[03:11] Right, right, right. So, Susan, I'm like, will you open up my chart? And will you look and give me the news in a nice, gentle sort of way, if there's any bad news? And I don't really have anything in particular, because I'm pretty healthy, and I eat okay most of the time, and I work out. But I'm just worried that it's like, I don't know, you get to an age where it's like, oh, well, your cholesterol, your heart is all blocked, you need a quadruple bypass. What? So, she looked.
Speaker 5:
[03:43] Yeah.
Speaker 1:
[03:47] And I'm fine. I'm fine. Yeah, it's like the doctor actually hand wrote it, and he's like, I'm just so impressed that you've done so well, and you're this dropped and this dropped, and this is at a really good level, and this dropped, and keep doing whatever you're doing. I'm like.
Speaker 5:
[03:59] They finally dropped? Congratulations.
Speaker 1:
[04:00] Yes, they finally did drop. Thank you. So, you're listening to a pretty healthy guy right now. Wow. You know, because I go to SNAP Fitness and, you know, I work out and kind of count the macros and, you know, drink minimally.
Speaker 2:
[04:14] You count the macros?
Speaker 1:
[04:15] Huh? Count the macros sometimes.
Speaker 2:
[04:17] That's interesting. Do you count them when you come to this side of the studio and start eating Bailey's edamame? Huh?
Speaker 1:
[04:22] Bailey has a big bag of edamame. They're delicious.
Speaker 5:
[04:24] They're so good.
Speaker 1:
[04:25] They're so good. Just a little bit here and there.
Speaker 2:
[04:27] This big studio that we have has caused Dave to wander a lot, and then he wanders and then he sees food and he can't stop himself, which I'm the exact same way. That's why I don't keep snacks in my house. If I see it, I'll eat it. But he just wanders over. He'll be in the middle of the show. Oh, Bailey, what do you got there?
Speaker 5:
[04:43] Oh, I got edamame. You want some?
Speaker 4:
[04:45] It's delicious. In Dave's defense, Bailey does the same thing to him. Sometimes doesn't ask. Sometimes she just does like the crab fingers, like, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme. But it's funny because then Dave will get the edamame, and Jenny's like, you have to keep it out of his eyesight. And I'm like, it is. Bailey's over there.
Speaker 1:
[04:59] Bailey's the worst. You probably have this in your office too, the one where you pull out like a bag of chips and here comes your co-worker like a prairie dog. Bailey will come over with a fork in her hand, and I'll have like leftover ravioli from the night before. You're gonna, can I have one of those ravioli? Like, okay, Bailey.
Speaker 5:
[05:20] That looks pretty good. What's that sauce on there?
Speaker 1:
[05:24] You're either the person that is annoyed by other people eating in your office, or you're the person who like, you know somebody who comes over, is like, whoa, what do you got there? What is that? Doritos, you can get Doritos then?
Speaker 5:
[05:35] You made salmon last night?
Speaker 1:
[05:36] Salmon. Warming up in the microwave. All right, it's Katie LWB, and this is The Dave Ryan Show. Thank you for being here. We'll be back in a second. We got a bunch of stuff coming up on the show. First of all, we have more Demi Lovato tickets coming for you coming up a little bit later on. But next, we're gonna play a game called Face Off, where we give you a category. And you have to name as many items in the category as you can. For example, it's Earth Day. Oh, wow. Name ways to save the earth. Ready, Jenny, go.
Speaker 2:
[06:05] Throw your empty bottles of liquor on the side of the highway.
Speaker 1:
[06:08] I'm thinking more reduce, reuse, recycle, donate, repair, recycle, donate, repair, that type of thing.
Speaker 2:
[06:16] I didn't sound like fun, though.
Speaker 1:
[06:17] I know. All right, we'll do that game coming up next. Need us for anything. Send a text to KDWB1.
Speaker 6:
[06:23] Let's see how many Napoleon Dynamite references Dave and Bailey will make.
Speaker 7:
[06:28] Get the people going.
Speaker 6:
[06:29] The Dave Ryan Show on 101.3 KDWB.
Speaker 1:
[06:33] That'd be stupid. No radio show is going to sit there and make a Napoleon Dynamite reference. Idiot!
Speaker 5:
[06:41] Kip, I'm going to need you to bring me some chapstick.
Speaker 1:
[06:45] Why don't you just use their chapstick?
Speaker 2:
[06:47] That's gross!
Speaker 1:
[06:49] My lips are real bad. Yeah, they hurt real bad. Okay, just the blank looks on Vaughn's face. Probably the blank look on your face as well.
Speaker 5:
[07:00] I should watch that today.
Speaker 1:
[07:02] You know, it's a beautiful day. If you stay inside and watch a movie, I'm coming after you. I'm going to come after you.
Speaker 4:
[07:08] I feel like Jenny and I watch it every day.
Speaker 1:
[07:09] You do. It's kind of like that. It's supposed to be like 86 degrees today. So get outside. It's not going to stay this way. It's going to get a little bit more nippy the next couple of days. Yeah, okay.
Speaker 2:
[07:21] So sad, but not bad.
Speaker 1:
[07:22] It is Earth Day. Just a reminder. It's also National Beagle Day. So shout out to your beagle. If you want to give your beagle a shout out, then send me your beagle's name. Give your beagle a little shout out here on KDWB. I give a shout out to Oliver, who is a beagle that I know listens to the show. Hey, Oliver. Shout out Oliver. It's a beagle I know. We're going to play a little game here. It's called Face Off. You get to play along too. We'll see how you do. It'll be like, okay, name apps on your phone. Name as many as you can, 15 seconds, ready, go. And so that won't be the category. It'll be me versus Bailey. Jenny is the game show host. Bailey, if you'll step out in the hallway, please. Okay.
Speaker 2:
[07:59] Okay.
Speaker 1:
[08:00] Thank you, Bailey. Going outside where she cannot hear what's going on. Okay.
Speaker 2:
[08:04] All right, David. You ready to party this morning? Yeah. Okay, let's do it. Your first category is going to be things on a map. Go.
Speaker 1:
[08:13] A road, a town, a highway, a national park, a traction, a lake, a river, a pond, an intersection, a... Wow, that's kind of hard.
Speaker 2:
[08:30] I'll give you an intersection. Okay. Technically, there are plenty, so why not? All right. All right. Next up, name expensive items.
Speaker 1:
[08:39] Diamonds, jewelry, furs, coach bags, Prada bags, shoes, trips, jet planes, Bentleys, Mercedes, Range Rovers. These.
Speaker 2:
[08:58] All right. I'll give you diamonds and jewelry, but for a second, I was questioning if I give you both of those.
Speaker 5:
[09:02] OK. OK.
Speaker 1:
[09:03] Fair enough.
Speaker 2:
[09:03] All right. And the last one is name fish.
Speaker 1:
[09:09] Carp, salmon, trout, walleye, sturgeon, goldfish, plattie, sturgeon, catfish, walleye.
Speaker 2:
[09:25] You said one twice.
Speaker 1:
[09:26] I think I said sturgeon twice.
Speaker 2:
[09:27] You did plattie.
Speaker 1:
[09:29] Plattie is a tank fish and aquarium fish.
Speaker 2:
[09:31] All right. Come on in, Bail.
Speaker 1:
[09:33] Can't eat them. I mean, I guess you could.
Speaker 6:
[09:37] Oh, she's here.
Speaker 2:
[09:38] Sorry, it's here.
Speaker 1:
[09:39] Hi, Bail.
Speaker 6:
[09:40] Hi.
Speaker 2:
[09:40] All right, Bailey, your first category today on Face Off is things on a map.
Speaker 5:
[09:46] A compass, city names, state names, capitals, countries, oceans, different colors. Yeah, huh? Um, yeah, there are colors on a map.
Speaker 1:
[10:06] You're right.
Speaker 4:
[10:07] You giving her that? Yeah. If it was like things in a room, uh, dust.
Speaker 5:
[10:10] That doesn't count.
Speaker 4:
[10:12] That doesn't count.
Speaker 5:
[10:13] Colors.
Speaker 1:
[10:13] Judge Jenny says, I'm going to give it to her. That's fine. That's fine.
Speaker 4:
[10:18] I'm wrong.
Speaker 5:
[10:18] Sorry. I literally walked in, sat down and had to start. You had time to sit and mingle.
Speaker 1:
[10:23] She did mingle. You're right.
Speaker 2:
[10:25] All right, Bailey, your next category is going to be expensive items. Go.
Speaker 5:
[10:30] Um, hair products, makeup products, a pontoon, a speed racer, um, a mansion, um, a car, a, uh, nails, uh, pedicures, facials.
Speaker 2:
[10:45] Okay.
Speaker 5:
[10:47] There we go.
Speaker 1:
[10:47] It's funny. I met a guy yesterday. He offered to give me a facial for free.
Speaker 4:
[10:51] Did he?
Speaker 1:
[10:52] He did. Yeah.
Speaker 2:
[10:52] Where'd you meet him?
Speaker 1:
[10:53] In the alley behind the bus station.
Speaker 2:
[10:55] You're always hanging out over there.
Speaker 1:
[10:57] Always at the bus station.
Speaker 2:
[10:59] All right. Bailey, last category today.
Speaker 4:
[11:02] Dave's on one today.
Speaker 2:
[11:05] Name any kind of fish.
Speaker 5:
[11:07] Walleye, bass, um, swordfish, tilapia, mahi mahi.
Speaker 1:
[11:13] Delicious bass.
Speaker 5:
[11:15] Um, uh, trout, rainbow trout. Um, uh, oh my god, a shark.
Speaker 1:
[11:23] Give her shark.
Speaker 2:
[11:24] Yeah.
Speaker 1:
[11:24] You did better than I did, I think. Yeah. I know I threw you up. I thrown in delicious bass.
Speaker 5:
[11:28] What the hell? Yeah.
Speaker 2:
[11:29] All right.
Speaker 5:
[11:29] I was trying to think of all the fish in Stardew Valley and I couldn't think of any. Sorry.
Speaker 2:
[11:33] In the category of things on a map, Dave got nine. Bailey, with colors that I gave her, only got seven. Okay, that's fine. So that didn't matter.
Speaker 5:
[11:44] The thing in the corner of a map that has like the little like inches that show you like this.
Speaker 2:
[11:49] The measurement of miles.
Speaker 5:
[11:51] What is that called?
Speaker 1:
[11:52] The key, the freaking key.
Speaker 5:
[11:54] I was trying to think of the dang key. It's okay.
Speaker 2:
[11:57] All right. In the category of expensive items, Bailey, you had nine. Dave, you had eleven. There we go. And then last category, fish. Dave had nine. Bailey had eight. Dang. Well, so Dave with the sweep today.
Speaker 1:
[12:22] All right. I'll take it.
Speaker 5:
[12:26] Never been fishing.
Speaker 2:
[12:27] I wasn't sure if you would get that just because you haven't been fishing, but you like to eat food. I do like to eat food.
Speaker 5:
[12:34] I did name all of the fish that I like to eat.
Speaker 1:
[12:36] Yeah.
Speaker 2:
[12:37] And that's what I would have done the same.
Speaker 1:
[12:38] But then you forget about all the other things. You went tilapia and halibut, that type of thing.
Speaker 5:
[12:44] Have you ever had swordfish? It's delicious.
Speaker 2:
[12:46] It's so good.
Speaker 5:
[12:47] It's so good.
Speaker 2:
[12:48] Yes, I have.
Speaker 1:
[12:49] They do say that swordfish are becoming a little bit close to in danger.
Speaker 2:
[12:55] Now I feel bad.
Speaker 1:
[12:56] I purposely avoid swordfish when I go to eat because they're a little bit like endangered a little bit.
Speaker 5:
[13:02] The time I had it, my mom was like, you never see swordfish on the menu, so this may be your only time eating swordfish. I was like, I'll take it.
Speaker 1:
[13:09] Listen, if you work at Ocean Air, let me know. Maybe I'm wrong. I mean, I could be wrong.
Speaker 2:
[13:14] It's so good.
Speaker 1:
[13:15] Yeah, it is really good. And that's why it's like, you know, it's not a plentiful fish in the sea.
Speaker 5:
[13:18] So someone texted in saying, Bailey should get extra points because Dave kept interrupting. Interesting.
Speaker 1:
[13:25] I wouldn't be opposed for every time. Interruption, you get three additional points. I win.
Speaker 2:
[13:29] Primary interruption. All right. Well, she at least won the last category.
Speaker 1:
[13:32] The great thing about this game is there's no penalty for losing. So I don't care if you win. Enjoy the victory. All right, we're going to do the sing along song of the day. We need some ideas. What do you want to sing along with this morning? It's always fun to sing along with the radio. Everybody does it, whether you're in the shower, whether you're like doing your hair. You can't really do it while you're brushing your teeth, but whatever. Send me a text with a sing along song of the morning idea, and we'll play it next on KDWB. We are about to do the sing along song of the day, suggested by Heidi. Good morning, Heidi.
Speaker 7:
[14:10] Good morning.
Speaker 1:
[14:10] Where are you calling from this morning, Heidi?
Speaker 7:
[14:12] Prescott, Wisconsin, baby.
Speaker 1:
[14:15] What is Prescott known for? Aren't they like the lip gloss capital of the world or something weird like that?
Speaker 7:
[14:22] Absolutely. No, there were the St. Paul and the Mississippi come together. The Great River Road. It's where all you guys ride your bikes in the summertime.
Speaker 1:
[14:29] Prescott. Yes, of course. OK, yes. Yeah, there's the biker bar over there. What's it called?
Speaker 7:
[14:34] I know exactly what you're talking about. There's lots of them over here. There's the ones with the outdoor, the monkey bar.
Speaker 1:
[14:40] Monkey bar, yeah.
Speaker 7:
[14:41] The outdoor swings. Yep.
Speaker 1:
[14:43] Love that. OK, well, we've heard about Prescott. I've been there many times. I can't believe I didn't think about that. Tell me a fun fact about you, Heidi.
Speaker 7:
[14:50] I am a brain aneurysm survivor. Wow. Whoa.
Speaker 1:
[14:54] Tell me about that. Where does this all of a sudden come on? Like a stroke or how does that happen?
Speaker 7:
[14:58] My vision went out in one eye, like the aneurysm didn't explode, so don't get me wrong. So my vision went out in one eye, kept going to the doctor, and they're like, let's bring in for an MRI, and they found a huge aneurysm sitting in my brain that was coiled by Dr. Delgado at Abbott Northwestern.
Speaker 1:
[15:15] Shout out. Shout out. Wow. Saved your life, basically.
Speaker 7:
[15:20] Yes, he did.
Speaker 1:
[15:20] That's amazing. Heidi, I'm so glad that they discovered that, that song. I'm so glad to talk to you. God bless. Give me a song that you want to sing along with, Heidi.
Speaker 7:
[15:28] Family Affair, Baby, Mary J. Blunt.
Speaker 1:
[15:31] Hey, you got it. I love your energy, Heidi. Have a great day, okay?
Speaker 7:
[15:36] You too. Thank you.
Speaker 1:
[15:46] 101.3 KDWB. This guy's upset because his customer losing is cool after reading the side of a Papa John's delivery pizza box. It has a reminder to tip the drivers during the deliveries, and this guy's gone viral for complaining about it.
Speaker 5:
[16:11] Delivery fee is not a tip.
Speaker 7:
[16:13] Please reward your driver for outstanding service.
Speaker 4:
[16:16] Tips aren't paychecks.
Speaker 5:
[16:18] Pay your employees.
Speaker 1:
[16:20] Okay, I guess it's a woman, not a guy. I figured it would be a guy. Yeah, sure. Pay your employees at the same time. Tip your driver. Nobody is driving pizza because they really love it. They're doing it because they need the money. So yeah, tip your driver. And the reason they put a reminder on the side of the box is because there's a lot of people like you who refuse to tip. You got to tip.
Speaker 5:
[16:45] What you could do is just drive to the place yourself and pick up your pizza if you really don't want to tip your driver.
Speaker 4:
[16:51] Especially because DoorDash is so expensive. You're spending probably double the amount of just a meal alone on. That's a bit of an exaggeration, but you know, a lot of money.
Speaker 1:
[16:59] Sure. Right. And her argument is, well, pay your drivers enough. Well, they do have, you know, there's an economy where they, you know, they can't pay them too much or they wouldn't make any profit. They would have to close down. So I think that it's fair. And boy, that's a whole other discussion is kind of like servers shouldn't have to get paid a tip. Like when you worked at Bubba Gump, Bubba Gump should have paid you enough that you didn't need to work for tips. What do you think, Jenny?
Speaker 2:
[17:22] I actually don't like that idea because you can make way more in tips than you can with a salary.
Speaker 1:
[17:29] Yeah.
Speaker 2:
[17:30] You can make a lot of money in tips. I would say most, I would argue almost every server would prefer to be dealing with tips or getting stiffed potentially than have a set salary of like $20 an hour.
Speaker 4:
[17:41] I think the situation, I worked at IHOP for two months, hated it. But I worked like a crappy shift because I was a new kid. I didn't work, nobody's going to IHOP on a Tuesday night. You know what I'm saying? I barely make tips then as opposed to working a Saturday or Sunday afternoon where everybody's going with their moms after church or whatever. That's where, but I don't know what business season is for Bubblegum. So it worked out for you every day.
Speaker 2:
[18:02] No, it was just a matter of like, I mean, we would have our slow days, but then they just cut like a bunch of servers. So then the people who got to stay around made all the money. And that's kind of how it would work.
Speaker 4:
[18:11] I can also tell you, as somebody that did DoorDash once, it pops up as like when we're looking for orders to take, how much the tip is. I think that's the first thing, that and then how far it is from wherever you currently are.
Speaker 2:
[18:21] Oh, it shows you how much the tip is?
Speaker 4:
[18:23] Yeah, Ben, that's literally how you pick which place you want to go to, for the most part, at least. I think there's another way you can do it, but for the most part, it's like $7 if you go to St. Paul, $5.40 if you go to Crystal, and you could choose.
Speaker 2:
[18:35] I have only ever used DoorDash one time, and it's because I have. Really? Yeah, no, you're not going to catch my frugal ass not driving to a place to get the food myself. I'm way too frugal because that involves, yes, tipping someone and like the delivery fee. So no, I'm not going to do that, but I did have a gift card once. So I, but on the gift card, I don't think it allowed me to tip, or I think I did tip, but then I wanted to tip more because I felt like I didn't do enough. And it was literally two girls who looked like they had barely turned 16. And when I gave them the extra cash, they're like, really? And I was like, yeah. They're like, thank you so much.
Speaker 3:
[19:08] What's this?
Speaker 1:
[19:10] That's a tip. Speaking of food, I love this story. Well, I don't love it, but Las Vegas used to be known for their buffets. And they would lure gamblers in to get you a $4.99 breakfast buffet, or they were more expensive lately, like $20 for a whatever buffet. They are going away. The buffet at the MGM brand used to have 35 buffets. That sounds impossible. So basically, they'd lure you in. So you could have the roast beef buffet or whatever for $21.99, and then you'd lose all your money gambling. It's going away. They're going to shut it down. It's been around for 33 years. There are only, as of May 31st, there will only be 7 casino buffets left in Loll of Las Vegas, and that's what Vegas used to be known for.
Speaker 5:
[19:55] It's the buffet place. That's where you go. You pick which casino you want to go to based on what you want to eat for the buffet.
Speaker 1:
[20:00] Vegas has become a ridiculous corporate greed hub.
Speaker 5:
[20:05] Weird.
Speaker 1:
[20:06] Because there's this charge, a resort charge, this charge, there's more. And people, a lot of people, they're like, I'm not going to Vegas anymore.
Speaker 5:
[20:14] Yeah.
Speaker 1:
[20:14] Which is too bad. It'll come back. I mean, hopefully. Main Street Station, downtown Las Vegas, just a little bit north of downtown, still has a killer buffet. If you want to go to Main Street Station, they still have a killer buffet.
Speaker 5:
[20:25] Or hit up Reno instead.
Speaker 2:
[20:28] What did you say, Reno?
Speaker 5:
[20:29] Reno. That's just like another casino place.
Speaker 2:
[20:32] I've been to the Palms Buffet, and I remember that that was beautiful and amazing. And I was young and didn't understand when that fancy buffet has existed, because I was used to the OCB. Yeah. So I was like, whoa, did I go a little crazy?
Speaker 6:
[20:45] Of course I did.
Speaker 1:
[20:46] The one at Main Street Station isn't fancy. It's definitely adequate, though. But the one with the guy in the tall hat carving your roast beef and carving your ham, yeah, that's pretty much going away.
Speaker 5:
[20:56] You like hot fudge sundaes? They're my favorite.
Speaker 1:
[21:01] All right, Dirt is about, that is brought to you by the Leo Agency. chooseleo.com. Remember, a couple of days ago, we talked to a woman, I think her name was, was it Anna? Anna was running the Boston Marathon. We said, hey, can we talk to you and see how you did? She was on the airplane flying back yesterday morning. So we're going to talk to Anna coming up in a couple of minutes and see how she did on the Boston Marathon. And I'm sure she did well. We'll get an update with Anna coming up. Also, Dave's dirt on the way. Stay here on KDWB. A couple of days ago, we talked to a woman named Anna. She had texted and said, hey, I'm just listening to you guys while I'm kind of getting ready for the Boston Marathon. So we called her. We put it on the air. We're like, hey, can we talk to you? And so we said, let's get an update and find out how you did. Good morning, Anna.
Speaker 7:
[21:51] Good morning, Dave.
Speaker 1:
[21:52] Anna's back cradled in the arms of the Twin Cities right now. So you're back at home. Let's hear about your day at the Boston Marathon.
Speaker 7:
[22:02] Yeah, I honestly had a great time. I went out there to just have fun and no pressure since my training build wasn't great. It was only like a month. So I was like, you know what? I've earned this and I'm going to experience it. And that's what I did. I mean, the crowd support was just insane from mile zero to 26. Like it was just incredible. 30,000 runners, which was super chaotic in the morning. Everyone's wave, you have a different wave. So your BIV number is based on what your qualifying time was. So the faster people, they go out first. So it's very corralled and selective. But like, it just the wild things you see along the way and people will literally do anything to cross the finish line, especially when they cramp up or like they get hurt or they can't walk or run anymore. People were like crawling and scooting. And it's just, it's a wild scene, but it's so fun, so fun. And I enjoyed myself.
Speaker 1:
[23:07] You know what, what an experience. And about a marathon, one of the things that you see along the sides are the people cheering and supporting. And they're like, number 283, go number 283. A lot of support along the side. Did you have any problems, any issues, any cramping, anything?
Speaker 7:
[23:24] Oh my gosh, yes. Yeah, of course. So why wouldn't I? I've been having some issues with my foot and knees because I only started my long runs a month ago, which was no fault, but my own. And my foot and knees started hurting a little more than halfway in. So I had to do like some walking and running. And that's not me because I race it. And there's a difference between doing a marathon and running it and doing it for the experience, which is my goal for this. And then actually racing it. Cause when I race races, I don't see anything until I cross the finish line. Like I'm like blackout heart rate in the 180 the entire time until I'm cross that finish line.
Speaker 1:
[24:07] Wow. And that's three and a half hours of your heart rate in the one eighties. Wow. That is crazy.
Speaker 7:
[24:15] My 313, I think my average heart rate for that race was just like 178. So I mean like, you know, I was under 30, so it's still safe.
Speaker 1:
[24:26] That's three beats a minute. So yeah, I mean, at my age, 180 heart rate would be, I'd be dead. Hope you guys know CPR.
Speaker 2:
[24:33] Anna, what is your resting heart rate?
Speaker 7:
[24:37] So when I'm like napping, it gets to like 35.
Speaker 2:
[24:41] Yeah.
Speaker 1:
[24:41] I know it.
Speaker 2:
[24:42] We've talked about this on the show because my resting is like 49.
Speaker 1:
[24:45] That's so healthy.
Speaker 2:
[24:46] And but that's like when you're heavy into cardio, that's like where it is, where a lot of people's are more around like 60, 70.
Speaker 1:
[24:53] What was your finishing time? I mean, that's the obvious question. What's your finishing time?
Speaker 7:
[24:58] So half more than halfway through, I was on track for like a 327 and I was like, perfect. I can sustain this. This is easy for me. And then with like the walking and running combined, like on the second half, it was about four hours, which is about a nine minute pace. And that's like nothing compared to what I'm used to. So I'm just like, you know what? This is just for fun. Like this was not a race. And like I said, there's a difference between running it for fun and like racing it. So I took it all in and I had fun and I, you know, got my unicorn and Boston medal and like enjoyed the events like of the weekend. And it was just, it was a blast.
Speaker 2:
[25:34] That's so cool. I have a question because I love that you did it for fun because I think that that's like the best way to do certain races. But why did you choose not to like go for the fastest pace that you've like, or try to beat your fastest pace with this one?
Speaker 7:
[25:49] Well, first of all, Boston is not like, it's not a PR course. Like it's, it's, it's hilly and especially me not knowing the course. It's hard to know like logistics in the morning and I get extreme anxiety. So this winter, I was just like, gosh, like, you know, with a, with an April Marathon, you have to do like most of your long runs on the treadmill. And I just was not mentally, you know, with the Minnesota winter, I just was mentally not into that this year. And I was like, I'm not having fun. This is not fun for me. Like this is going to be my victory lap, my last marathon. So then like I started doing the long runs like a month ago because I just like wasn't into it. And I was like, okay, I got to do something. So I literally did three weeks of three long runs and that's it. Which isn't smart, but it is what it is. And then doing this race, I thought this was going to be my last stand alone marathon. Doing this brought the fun back in it for me. And I was like, I need more. Like I, it brought the fun back.
Speaker 1:
[26:49] Good, I'm glad you had fun.
Speaker 7:
[26:51] I also wanted to enjoy the weekend too, because I don't want to go out there for five days on a trip and be holed up in my hotel room in my own head, mad at everybody. And don't look at me until I cross the finish line, because that's how I am.
Speaker 1:
[27:05] That is so awesome. I'm so glad you shared that experience because you know what? Nearly most people will never run a marathon. Yeah, I want a lot of people wonder what it's like. And then there's runners like me. I'm not trying to like pat myself on the back, but I've run four and I am not a racer. I ran one in 452. That was my record. My slowest was 540. But it is, it's an experience. I'm glad you had a good time. I'm glad that you got back safe, and thanks for talking to us. One last question. What did you eat when you were done? Because I went to, there's a Mexican restaurant at the end of like the Duluth Marathon. Can't remember the name of it, but it's like I ordered one of everything on the menu. What did you treat yourself to?
Speaker 7:
[27:49] Well, afterwards, I think whatever had they had at the finish line, because I needed something. But I wanted sushi that night, because that's always my go-to after the race. Like I love sushi, so especially in Boston with the seafood being, you know, so good and Cold Stone ice cream.
Speaker 1:
[28:06] Anna, thanks.
Speaker 7:
[28:06] We actually, we were there for five nights, and our hotel was right next to Cold Stone, and we literally got Cold Stone every single night. And there's a dairy-free option, because I'm like Jenny with dairy. So I got the almond milk-based non-dairy ice cream, and it was like perfect on my stomach, and I was like, well, I can have this. So we got it five nights, which is my problem.
Speaker 1:
[28:28] I love it.
Speaker 7:
[28:28] As I would as well.
Speaker 1:
[28:29] Anna, thanks so much for talking to us. Good luck on whatever you're doing next, and glad you made it back safe, and thanks for giving us the update. That was really cool.
Speaker 7:
[28:37] Thanks, guys.
Speaker 1:
[28:38] Thank you, Anna. Have a great day. Okay, probably the only marathon runner from Boston that we're going to talk to this week, I would imagine. Let's do Dave's dirt on KDWB.
Speaker 2:
[28:49] All right, so The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, they had halted production for season five because of everything that was going on with Taylor Franke Paul and her ex, Dakota. And just last week, Utah prosecutors did refuse the charges for domestic violence allegations. So the whole production started up back again. However, those two will not be in season five with the filming that's going to continue. I don't know if they'll be in whatever was at the start, but I hope that they probably cut them out because those two are very toxic, very, very toxic.
Speaker 5:
[29:22] Harry Styles may have proposed to Zoe Kravitz. They were spotted together in London and she had a ginormous diamond ring on her ring finger. Somebody there said that they looked so in love and her ring is enormous. That's what they said. So they've only been dating for about eight months at this point and she was already like less than a year from ending her engagement to Channing Tatum in October 2024. So hey, maybe they're going to get married.
Speaker 4:
[29:53] There's a scene in the season finale of The Pit. Dave and I cannot stop watching it and talking about it. There's a scene in the season finale where two of the doctors from the show, they go to a karaoke bar and they sing a song. And so here's one of those stars on Jimmy Fallon talking about a cool shout out she got.
Speaker 1:
[30:07] Just so you'll know, it's Dr. King. She's the kind of nerdy one with the glasses.
Speaker 4:
[30:11] Yes, the blonde one.
Speaker 1:
[30:12] So yeah, she's always like very, very stiff, but very likable. So this is her.
Speaker 3:
[30:16] You do karaoke in real life?
Speaker 8:
[30:18] No, I'm afraid to sing.
Speaker 3:
[30:20] You're afraid to sing?
Speaker 8:
[30:21] I'm afraid to sing, yes. There's something that is different when it's like a character. Yeah. And it's not really me. I don't know why, but I've been told I was a terrible singer for a lot of my life.
Speaker 3:
[30:33] Well, dude, you did pretty great in this scene, Alanis Morissette. I will tell you that. Alanis Morissette herself posted, patient doctor sentence, Dr. King. You got the thumbs up? You got the thumbs up for the one and only Alanis Morissette. Come on. That's got to feel good.
Speaker 8:
[30:50] It's everything.
Speaker 3:
[30:51] That's got to feel good.
Speaker 8:
[30:52] It's amazing. Yeah, I just got a text from Issa that said we did it. And then it was that screenshot. And I was like, yes.
Speaker 4:
[30:59] You have to watch The Pit.
Speaker 1:
[31:00] It is so good. We've turned so many people on to The Pit. It really is such a good show. We are out of time for Dave's dirt. We're going to be back in a second, play a little bit of Name That Tune. We've also got Demi Lovato tickets. Stay here. The Dave Ryan Show coming right back on 101.3 KDWB.
