Speaker 3:
[01:33] Dr. Laura, hi.
Speaker 1:
[01:36] Hi, Rachel. What's going on?
Speaker 3:
[01:38] Hi, I'm calling. Oh my gosh, I'm so glad to speak to you, Dr. Laura. Let me give you just a quick. Oh my gosh. Okay, so I'm 26. I met my boyfriend in university. We've been dating for five years. I've been patient with him while he's getting his career started, getting his finances in order, and we've been living together for the past four years. Yesterday, we had a conversation about our finances, and the smartest move is really to move back home, to my home, both of us, to save some money. I told him, I don't feel comfortable moving back home with a boyfriend, so you have to be my fiance if we're moving back home. It's already been five years, so I'm wondering what's the holdup. And he had this weird excuse about, oh, we have to see how we are in business together, and we have to do some more things. Like I have to go through the Hunger Games to get a ring. And that really hurt my feelings. I thought we were going to get a ring.
Speaker 1:
[02:37] Rachel, Rachel, just take a few breaths and close your eyes and explain to me why an intelligent, relatively confident, young woman wants to force a man to marry her.
Speaker 3:
[03:00] I know, Dr. Laura, I don't want to do that.
Speaker 1:
[03:02] You're doing that. You're shacking up, having sex out of wedlock. You're doing all of this crap, telling me it's about money. You didn't put yourself on a pedestal. I mean, why should he marry you and take responsibility? As people age, it's normal to ask what more they could be doing to take care of their health. [04:51] Why have I asked my electrician I found on angie.com to bury my pet hamster Nibbles in our yard for me? Because I was so moved by how carefully he buried my electrical wires, I knew I could trust him to bury my sweet Nibbles after his untimely end. Nibbles, gone too soon. May he scurry in peace.
Speaker 1:
[05:08] Hey, sorry about your pet, but I just wire stuff.
Speaker 4:
[05:11] Nibbles would have loved you like a brother.

[05:21] Let's check in on the Serta counting sheep.
Speaker 1:
[05:23] Why aren't we counting anymore?
Speaker 5:
[05:25] Well, the all-new Serta Perfect Sleeper has the Q4 support system that helps relieve aches and back pain. We'll never get counted again. Uh, nope.
Speaker 4:
[05:34] Serta, we make the world's best mattress.
Speaker 3:
[05:41] You know, Dr. Laura, I get nervous because I'm, I don't know if I'm going to find another connection like what we have, and that's really what I-
Speaker 1:
[05:50] Rachel, you got a guy who likes you in bed and has a good time with you, who is not going to lay down his life for you. And don't tell me at 26, you really believe that you're not going to in the next 10 years, find a responsible, wonderful guy who wants nothing more than to commit to you and 84 babies. You're being a silly girl. Shacken up with some guy who now wants to see how the money is going to go in business. What is wrong here? Come on.
Speaker 3:
[06:28] No, you're so right. You're so right, Dr. Laura.
Speaker 1:
[06:30] You're a beggar. You're a beggar. You're a beggar. What the hell is that about?
Speaker 3:
[06:35] No, and I don't feel comfortable bringing him home, you know, to save money. You shouldn't bring him home.
Speaker 1:
[06:41] No, I know you're so right. I'm not going to be able to do that.
Speaker 3:
[06:43] I'm not going to be able to do that. No, I know you're so right, Dr. Laura. I know. The truth hurts. The truth hurts.
Speaker 1:
[06:55] You had a good run. Now let it go and get on with being more mature.
Speaker 3:
[07:01] Yeah, with someone who's not going to...
Speaker 1:
[07:03] I believe women who shack up are being immature and letting guys get away with having no need to make a responsible commitment.
Speaker 3:
[07:14] Right. Yeah, that was my biggest mistake, Dr. Laura. I think about that all the time.
Speaker 1:
[07:20] Men don't appreciate things they don't have to work hard for.
Speaker 3:
[07:27] Wow. Well, thank you so much, Dr. Laura. I really appreciate. It just felt so good just to hear that. Just a reminder that I will find somebody else.
Speaker 1:
[07:40] You will eventually, when you're ready not to beg and put yourself on a pedestal and let the guy earn you, that will be beautiful.
Speaker 3:
[07:52] Yes. Amen to that. Thank you so much, Dr. Laura. You're the best. You help so many people. Thank you for your advice and your wisdom.
Speaker 1:
[08:01] I appreciate you saying that. Now pack your bags and get the hell out of there.
Speaker 3:
[08:07] Thank you, Dr. Laura. Okay, I will. I will.
