Now, he was playing with his little toy cars and having a wonderful time driving them around and making them drift from side to side when all of a sudden he heard a voice. Um, can I play too? Who said that, said Oskar. He looked around the room to try and work out who it was, but he couldn't see anything. So he decided to get back to his game, and he went back to driving his cars. Oh, that was a good one, said the voice. Hey, who keeps saying that, said Oskar. He looked around until all of a sudden, at the middle of his stuffed toys, popped a teddy bear. Hello, he said. Who are you, said Oskar? My name is Teddy Winkle, and I am the greatest driver in the whole entire world. Um, Teddy Winkle, these aren't real cars. They're just toy cars. Well, they don't have to be just toy cars, said Teddy Winkle. What? What do you mean, said Oskar? Well, if you try really hard, you can actually turn them into real little cars, and we can drive them around your room. What? Said Oskar. He was very surprised. He wasn't quite sure this teddy bear knew what he was talking about. I'll show you, said Teddy Winkle. Teddy Winkle walked over to one of the cars. He looked at it very carefully. Let me see. I better check under the hood. The bonnets don't open on these cars, said Oskar. But Teddy Winkle reached down and lifted it up. Hey, how did you do that, said Oskar? I told you, said Teddy Winkle. We can turn it into something very special. That sounds really fun. As Teddy Winkle was looking underneath the bonnet of the car, he could see. Oh yeah, this engine looks good. And let me check the tires. He had a look at the tires as well. Oh yeah, that looks good. That'll work. Okay, I'll jump into this one. Jump in, said Oskar. You're not gonna fit. Yes, I am. Watch this, said Teddy Winkle. As he jumped into the air straight over the top of the car and he went straight through the window. How did you do that? Said Oskar. Come on, said Teddy Winkle. Pick a car. Okay, said Oskar. So Oskar went over and found his favorite toy car. He thought he might try what Teddy Winkle did. I wonder, he said as he lifted up the bonnet. It opened, he said. Of course it opened. Does it look good? I don't really know much about cars, said Oskar. Me either, but I'm sure it'll work, said Teddy Winkle. Oh, okay, he said. So, Oskar decided he would try to jump in. He stood next to the car and felt a little bit silly, but I hope I don't break it, he said. He jumped and he went straight in the window of the car. Ha ha, all right. Are you ready to go for a drive, said Teddy Winkle. Um, are you sure this is gonna work? Just then, Teddy Winkle hit the accelerator in his car and took off. Wow, that's amazing, said Oskar. I'm gonna try. Oskar started to drive. It's working, he said. Ha, yeah, we should have a race. Really, said Oskar? Yeah, maybe even a drifting race. Drifting, said Oskar. How are we going to drift these cars? Watch this, said Teddy Winkle, as he took off and kicked the car sideways. He drifted all the way around Oskar's toys. It was amazing. Wow, look at me go, said Teddy Winkle. That's incredible, said Oskar. We should definitely have a race, but how will we decide the course? I know. How about we make it, we'll start here, said Teddy Winkle, at the point that they were at, and let's take it around the whole house. Huh, okay, said Oskar. All right, the first one to go out of your room, drive down the hallway, do two laps around the kitchen table, and then make it back to this room is the winner. First one through the door wins. Um, okay, said Oskar. That sounds like fun. All right, how are we gonna make it start? Um, well, we could say ready, set, go. But who says it? That person gets to be faster. They know when it's gonna be the go time. Oh, um, well, we could use my clock. Oh yeah, that's a good idea. They looked up. All right, when the second hand of the clock reaches the 12, it's go time. Okay, said Oskar. Ready? They watched. Tick, tick, tick. The clock hit 12. They both took off down the hallway. Whoa! Said Oskar. This is amazing! Oh, I'm going the fastest! Said Teddy Winkle as he was driving, weaving around the toys on the bedroom floor. It was quite the obstacle course to get to the door of the bedroom because there were things everywhere. They drifted around toys, they zoomed past other bits and blocks and all sorts of things until they almost were at the door. Uh-oh! Someone's closing the door! Said Teddy Winkle. Oskar's dad was about to close the door as both cars were screeching towards it. Quick, go faster! Said Oskar. Quick, duck in behind me! Said Teddy Winkle. The two cars lined up and went straight through the last crack in the door before it closed. But Teddy Winkle, what are we going to do? That's our finish line! Um, let's keep racing and see what happens! Said Teddy Winkle. As they were charging down the hallway, they were very excited. These cars were so fast and so fun. The hallway felt like a drag race. There was a long stretch where they could drive their cars as quick as they possibly could. I'm flying! Said Teddy Winkle. Me too! Said Oskar. I'm overtaking you, Teddy Winkle! Hey, come back here! He said, as the two cars were racing neck and neck, getting faster and faster and faster, until they heard a noise. Dunga dunga dunga dunga dunga dunga! What's that? Said Teddy Winkle. Um, I think it might be our dog. What? Said Teddy Winkle. Just then, a dog came sliding around the corner at the end of the hallway. Ooh, ooh, ooh! Cars, cars, cars, cars, cars, cars, cars, cars, cars, cars, cars, cars! Said the dog. What? Said Oskar. Dogs can't talk. Yes, they can. What? No, they can't. Yes, I can, I can and can and can. Cars, cars, cars, said the dog, as he started to chase Teddy Winkle and Oskar in the cars. Wow, keep driving, quick. Vroom, meow, meow. The cars zoomed along and blub, blub, blub, blub. The dog chased around behind them. Who's making all that racket? Called out Oskar's dad from another room. Quick, let's get to the table, said Teddy Winkle. He went up to Teddy Winkle's car and take a big lick. Teddy Winkle turned his car and started to drift around the table. Woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof. Let's table lap. Me too, said Oskar. And then Oskar started to go past Teddy Winkle. Hey, how'd you do that? Said Teddy Winkle. I don't know, said Oskar. This thing's flying. They came around and started going around for the second time. By now, the dog had collected himself and climbed out of the couch and was starting to run again. Uh-oh, here he comes, said Teddy Winkle. Cars, cars, cars, cars, cars, cars, cars, cars, cars, cars, said the dog as he started to chase once more. But this time, he slid underneath the table. Bang, crash, boom, pssh. I think he ended up in the kitchen, said Teddy Winkle. Oskar and Teddy Winkle laughed, as Oskar's dad came charging into the kitchen. What are you doing? He said to the dog. Hmm, said the dog, sitting and trying to look like a good boy. The cars kept racing back towards the hallway. But Teddy Winkle, we can't go back yet. My door's still closed. Oh yeah, we gotta work out how to open it. Um, hmm, let me think. Oh no, said Teddy Winkle, as he was continuing to drive. We need to do some car stunts. Car stunts, said Oskar. Um, we need something to launch to be able to jump and get to the door handle. As they were driving around really quick, Teddy Winkle spotted it. Look, over there, he said. Oskar had left a few books on the ground in the lounge room. They kind of seemed to make a ramp. If we hit that at top speed, we might be able to get to the door handle, said Teddy Winkle. Oh, okay, said Oskar. Let's try. They turned back around and zoomed back towards the lounge room. They were neck and neck, weaving in and out, going past each other and then past each other again until they did the big turn and headed straight towards the books. Um, here it goes, said Teddy Winkle. Hold on, yelled Oskar. The two cars launched into the air. For a moment, everything went quiet. Are we gonna make it, said Oskar. I hope so, said Teddy Winkle. Nyaaawww. They landed on the door handle, pushing the door open. Hooray, yelled Oskar. Yay, said Teddy Winkle. All right, let's make it one more lap around the couch and then straight through your door and see who the winner is. Okay, said Oskar. But I'm gonna use more jumps, he said. What, said Teddy Winkle. As they flew back towards the lounge room, Oskar started hitting anything he could see on the ground looked a little bit like a jump. His car would boost into the air and jump over the top of Teddy Winkle. Hey, how'd you do that? Oskar was laughing as he got to the couch first. Come back here, said Teddy Winkle. They both started to drift around the couch. As they got to the hallway, Teddy Winkle was in the lead. I'm gonna win, said Teddy Winkle. I don't think so, said Oskar, as he drove his car as quick as he could. That's when they heard the voice. Cars, cars, cars, cars, cars. Uh-oh, said Teddy Winkle. Just then, the dog came racing up behind him and licked the back of Teddy Winkle's car. It flipped it up into the air. Whoa, said Teddy Winkle, as his car tipped sideways. Oskar sped past and straight through the bedroom door. Hooray, said Teddy Winkle, as he flipped through as well. That was the most fun race I've ever had. That was amazing, said Oskar. Cars, cars, cars, said the dog, as he came and sat next to both of the cars. Oskar, I hereby declare you the winner of our ultimate mini car race. Hooray, said Oskar. Hooray, hooray, hooray, hooray, cars, cars, cars, said the dog. Teddy Winkle climbed out of his car and raced up the dog's tail right up to the back of his head and gave him a tickle behind the ears while he was still tiny. Oh, you're a good boy, he said. Oskar and Teddy Winkle laughed. All right, we better make ourselves full size again. How do we do it, said Oskar? Just jump, said Teddy Winkle. Teddy Winkle jumped in his spot and he was full size once again, but he'd forgot to get off the dog. Oh, said the dog. Oh, sorry. Teddy Winkle climbed down. Oskar jumped as well. And when he landed, he was back to full size. Hey, Oskar, thanks for playing. I had the best time. All right, I'll see you later, he said. Bye, said Teddy Winkle. Bye, bye, bye, said the dog. See you later, said Oskar. And with that, Teddy Winkle jumped out the window and ran off. Just then, Oskar's dad came walking into his bedroom. Um, Oskar, did did I hear the dog talking, he said? Well, said Oskar, I don't think you'd believe me, even if I told you. And that is the end of the story. This episode is brought to you by Teddy Winkle's Tiny Speedway.
