[00:30] K-pop demon hunters, Saja Boys' breakfast meal and Huntrix meal have just dropped at McDonald's. They're calling this a battle for the fans. What do you say to that, Rumi? It's not a battle.
Speaker 1:
[00:40] So glad the Saja Boys could take breakfast and give our meal the rest of the day.
Speaker 3:
[00:44] It is an honor to share.
Speaker 2:
[00:46] No, it's our honor. It is our larger honor. No, really, stop. You can really feel the respect in this battle. Pick a meal to pick a side.
Speaker 4:
[00:58] I participate in McDonald's while supplies last. Welcome to the Slay Girl Slay Podcast, a space designed to uplift, to motivate and to inspire you, to be fearless in the pursuit of your dreams, go after what you deserve and show up as your most unapologetic, most authentic self. This audio series was created for every woman who's on the verge of her come up. She's creating her own vibe and fiercely transforming her life. So sit down with me, get your notebook, grab a pen, and let's create the life that you've always dreamed of. I'm your host, Ashley Leggs, and this is the Slay Girl Slay Podcast. Hey, girl. Hey, welcome back to the Slay Girl Slay Podcast. I hope all of you are well in your week or your day is off to the best, best, best start. Y'all, we have less than two months until summer. What are we doing? Are we locked in? Are y'all locked in? I decided to do like a version of 75 Hard. Shout out to all of the people who have done 75 Hard before. No, ma'am. You are fearless. You are exactly who you think you are, okay? I am not doing 75 Hard, but my friends are calling this a spring medium, if you will, where the next two-ish months we lock in and everybody has made their own specific goals and rules that they have to follow for the next 60-something days. I decided that I'm going to try and walk 10,000 steps a day and do at least one strength training class, like Pilates or Yoga Sculpt. I also have some non-physical goals, like meditating every day, journaling every day, getting my water in, and reading every day. Now y'all, ask me, have I missed some days so far? Yes. But for me, it's more about getting something done versus trying to get all of it done, you know what I mean? Like, maybe I didn't eat all my food, but at least I ate my vegetables. Like, that's the vibe that I'm going for. Progress, not perfection. So, I say that to say, I challenge all of you to pick something to commit to over the next 60-ish days. It doesn't have to be this large scale thing. You don't have to tell anybody about it, or be in anybody's group chat. Just make some rules for yourself for the next few weeks. Put up a tracker on your fridge if you're feeling funky, and try to shoot for progress as we lean in to a new season. Not perfection. Let's start the summer feeling good, y'all. Feeling aligned, feeling healthy, feeling excited, and ready and willing to receive all the good things that this next season literally and figuratively have in store for us. Cool? Cool. Speaking of seasons, Chicago has been throwing out temperatures like it's lottery numbers, y'all. One day, it's 78, then it's 42, 33, 61. But the seasons have officially changed. And usually around this time of year, we typically do some sort of spring reset episode on the pod. This year, instead of the focus being resetting for this new season, I thought it would be great to focus on how to be more in alignment this spring. In alignment with how we are at home, how we engage in our personal lives, professional lives, creative lives even, things that bring us further into alignment with what makes us feel our best or look our best and do our best versus what doesn't. I am sharing my personal spring ins and outs on the Happy Monday sub stack. If you are a sub stack user, feel free to subscribe to our Happy Monday newsletter. The link is in the description, but I also put together a list of ins and outs that I think you guys would benefit from. And hopefully this list perhaps inspires you to create your own list. List of things you will welcome in this new season that bring you more into alignment and things that you are actively choosing to leave behind. So, first we're going to do the spring outs, okay? Because I like to end things on a good note. So, first out of the season is holding on to anything that no longer serves a purpose in our homes. I'm talking your closet, donating or selling clothes that you have not physically touched in the last two years. Shoes that you can't fit, shoes that hurt, but you can't let go of. Hello, your drawers, getting rid of them old raggedy t-shirts. I can say that because I too am an owner of old raggedy family reunion shirts. I can say that. But actively trying to get rid of them one spring clean at a time. Throwing out old underwear, y'all. Period underwear does not have to be old or raggedy. I don't know why that was passed down to us. Socks that don't have a partner. Go through them cabinets and clean out the clutter. I am ashamed to say this for the world to hear, but my bathroom sink cabinet, like underneath the sink, used to look like a bomb exploded. And all you could see was hair products, flat irons, curling irons, every hair tie, scarf, bonnet and clip under the sun. So going through your cabinet's boo, tossing what you no longer use. Jewelry that has tarnished over. Y'all, we can see that when you wear it. Let it go. Them old earring backs, makeup that has expired, skincare that has expired. For those of you that don't know, if you look at the back of your product, it will have a little logo that says 6M or 12M. That stands for six months or one year. So that means when you buy it and crack it open, that foundation, moisturizer, serum, whatever, does not last forever. Also going through your kitchen cabinets and throwing away things that have expired. Black people, I know we like to use expired seasoning on our food because our mamas and daddies and grannies taught us that seasoning doesn't expire. And I'm not going to touch that. I'm not. But condiments expire y'all. Barbecue sauce expires, my girl. Speaking as someone who didn't know that, it does expire. Those kitchen cabinets that have every tupperware top known to mankind. Now, look, I'm not sure if you're the type where you have every tupperware top and bottom neatly stacked in your cabinets, or if you're like me and every time you need some tupperware, you got to take everything out and look for the top or the bottom. Yes. But moving through your home, sis, moving through your things, your bags, your cabinets, closets, and physically removing things that no longer serve a purpose other than the space it's taking up. Find you a free weekend before the month is over. Make it cute. You can call it, I don't know, toss weekend. Turn on some Olivia Dean and make you a cute little snack board and a beverage or maybe you're more in the vibe of, I don't know, Sade or Beyonce even. Whatever gets you going to toss out things, physical things that are just taking up space. Another spring out, trying to cultivate in spaces that do not speak to you. They don't inspire you. Environments that don't make you feel good when you are in them. Y'all do the thing you wanted to do with your space that makes you happy. Redecorating a room, maybe revamping your workspace, your book collection, maybe hanging more artwork on the wall. I don't know if it's just me, but when I get some money, decorating my home is the last thing on my mind. But y'all finally getting your home or a certain spot in your home to finally look the way that you wanted to will do more for your mood, your joy, your attitude, your happiness, all the things this spring. And bring you further into alignment with the greater vision that you have for yourself. Do not underestimate the power of being in a beautiful environment. Also, because you moved so much stuff out already from your toss weekend, now you have room for something new. Another big out for spring, scrolling, doom scrolling, scrolling before you get out of bed, scrolling on the toilet, scrolling while you wait for food, scrolling while you eat said food, scrolling in bed, just scrolling. I did a biblical fast earlier this year, and part of my fast was social media. And y'all, I really hate to say it. It was like second nature picking up my phone to just quote unquote, see what's happening, you know? To see what's going on, to see what everybody's saying, what y'all doing. I was doing it mindlessly. I was always plugged into what's happening with everybody else. And I noticed that the mornings and nights when I didn't touch my phone at all, I slept better. I was more engaged with what I was watching. My day went a little bit smoother. So try it out, sis. Maybe cutting out scrolling altogether isn't for you, but maybe it's cutting down your screen time and getting outside on some grass with some real people, your girlfriends, your lover, letting the sun kiss you. That all sounds like something we all need to be doing more of this spring. Now, let's do some ends. Starting something new isn't just hard. It's honestly terrifying. And I remember feeling that way when we started selling merch. I was thinking, how am I going to actually set this up and make it seamless for people to shop? That's where Shopify really came in handy. Shopify is the commerce platform behind millions of businesses around the world and 10% of all e-commerce in the US. It gave us the tools to build a beautiful online store that matched our brand. And Shopify helps you run your business more efficiently with built-in tools that can write product descriptions, create page headlines, and even enhance your product photography. It also makes it easy to get the word out with email and social media campaigns, almost as if you have a full marketing team behind you. It's time to turn those what ifs into with Shopify today. Sign up for your $1 per month trial today at shopify.com/slay. Go to shopify.com/slay. That's shopify.com/slay. I like my money where I can see it. Unfortunately, traditional big wireless carriers do too. But I've finally gotten fed up with crazy high wireless bills, bogus fees, and free perks that actually cost more in the long run. And I switched to Mint Mobile. Mint Mobile exists to fix the whole that's just how it's always been mentality around wireless. They offer premium wireless plans starting at just $15 a month. You get high speed data and unlimited talk and text delivered on the nation's largest 5G network. And the best part, you can bring your own phone and number, activate with an eSIM in minutes, and start saving immediately. I use this and you should too. If you like your money, Mint Mobile is for you. Shop plans at mintmobile.com/slaypod. That's mintmobile.com/slaypod. An upfront payment of $45 for a three month 5 gigabyte plan is required, which is equivalent to $15 a month. This new customer offer is for the first three months only. Then full price plan options are available. Taxes and fees are extra. See Mint Mobile for details. All right, first spring in. Do a daily brain dump. First thing in the morning. I'm not sure if you guys have heard of morning pages by way of The Artist's Way, which is a book created by Julia Cameron. I never can complete The Artist's Way because it's so much mentally to unpack. But what I do feel like has helped me a lot over the years, creatively, emotionally, spiritually is the morning pages, where you sit down and you write out three longhand pages of your thoughts. It's just a steady stream of consciousness. And I don't know what kind of magic is in it. It's also a little annoying to do for sure. But somehow, when I do morning pages for a few weeks, mentally, I'm different, creatively, I'm abundant, spiritually, I'm aligned. And that's really what I want all of us to lock in on in this new season, being aligned. And sometimes you have to move things out of the way, right? Cut out the distractions, throw some things out, get in spaces that make you feel your best to do so. Another spring in. Now, this one might be my favorite. Taking yourself on a date each week. I know you're like, what, Ash? A date? They also do this in the artist way, but like I said, y'all, I never finished the book. But I also love the dates when I do them. And I think implementing dates into our spring would really do so much for us in the long run. Reason being, number one, we have full control over the experience that we want to have. We get excited about something that we're doing on our own. We're also pushing ourselves to maybe do something new and just that feeling of coming home after being out, doing something different, something fun, all by yourself. I don't know how to describe that feeling and put it into words. If you're like, Ash, I'm on a budget, girl, it's okay. Taking yourself out on a date does not mean that you have to spend a ton of money or break the bank if you don't want to. Also, dates don't have to just be going out to eat. You can go to the movies, maybe buy yourself some coffee and go to the library for a new book. You can bake something or cook something at home that you saw on a movie or a TV show. Also, just going for a walk or intentionally having an outdoor photo shoot of pictures that you don't have to post if you don't want to. It's just for the sake of doing it, just for the sake of putting yourself out there for yourself, for the dilly dally of it all. The razzle dazzle. Some more fun spring ends, and these are going to be rapid fire. Getting a full eight hours of sleep, like it's your part-time job, or developing a sleep hygiene routine. I actually might add this one to my list. Changing your bed linen. How about making your bed every morning? Spending time with people who make you want to be better. Maybe, if you know this is an in for you this spring, when it's 7 p.m. Friday and it's 95 degrees, you can determine who you're going to be hanging out with that night, right? Is it the people who you have to audition for and you're kind of in but kind of out? Or is it the people that make you want to be better? That inspire you to do something cool or interesting in your own life? You tell me. Another N, protecting your piece like it costs you something. Because it does. If you've been here for a while, you know I'm a PVO kind of girl. PVO means Positive Vibes Only. I will swerve on somebody so quick, the moment I feel the negativity coming up off them. Y'all know that Viola Davis meme when she just picks up her purse and leaves. That's me. Like, physically move to a new spot, actively change the subject, because I don't like negativity. I truly believe it is contagious. It's giving broke. It's giving unhappy. Two things I want nothing of. And my last in for spring is probably my most important. Be nicer to yourself in this season, sis. Be kinder to yourself. Have more grace for yourself. Hold more space for yourself. Stop being so hard on yourself. This is your first time on earth, right? This is your first time being the age that you are, in the life that you have, with the job that you have, doing the things that you are doing, living and breathing as a human being, paying bills, taking care of family, taking care of your mental health. Like, give yourself a break, for real. Would you push 5-year-old you or 10-year-old you, like you do yourself? No. Would you force her to do some of the things that you're trying to force yourself to do? No. Would you talk about her the way that you talk about yourself? It can be the non-verbal self-talk, too. Probably not. You can still get it, sis. You can chase the dream, be that girl in Binsum, and still be gentle with yourself, too. For my journal girlies, well, actually for all of us, because we're doing morning pages this spring, ask yourself, how can I be gentle with myself today? How can I be kinder to myself today? Alignment isn't something that just happens to us. It's something that we choose. Choose the things that feel good to use this, the spaces that feel good, the habits that support you, the people who bring you peace, the routines that make you feel like yourself again. Because the more aligned you are, the better you feel. That's it for today's podcast, Boo.
