Speaker 1:
[00:11] This episode of Imagination Time is called Here is the Beehive.
Speaker 2:
[01:01] Hi, friends.
Speaker 1:
[01:03] I'm Katie, and this is Zach.
Speaker 2:
[01:09] Zach?
Speaker 3:
[01:13] Oh, Zach.
Speaker 1:
[01:16] This is the part where you say hello, hello.
Speaker 2:
[01:20] Oh, hello, hello.
Speaker 1:
[01:22] Hello, hello. You sound really busy.
Speaker 3:
[01:25] You're practically buzzing.
Speaker 1:
[01:29] Just like a bee. These are really busy creatures.
Speaker 3:
[01:34] I am too, but I think I'm ready to slow down.
Speaker 1:
[01:40] Even busy bees have to slow down and rest sometimes. It's an important thing to do, especially if you want to use your imagination. And today, we can use our imagination to imagine that we're all busy. Busy bees, honey bees, to be exact. They gather nectar from flowers and make honey in their hive. But before we can buzz in our imaginations, let's try to calm the buzzing in our bodies and minds. That way, our imaginations will be ready for our adventure. Ready, Zach?
Speaker 3:
[02:31] Ready, Caitie.
Speaker 1:
[02:32] Are you ready, friends? Let's close our eyes and take a deep breath all together. In one, two, three, hold it. Let's be very still. When we're super still, we can feel all the different parts of our body, inside and out. Let's imagine with every breath, that gentle buzz starts to fade away. It melts down from the top of our heads, down to the tip of our toes, and floats out of our bodies until we are fully relaxed.
Speaker 3:
[04:04] Buzz, buzz, buzz.
Speaker 1:
[04:11] Let's take one more deep breath all together. Let's imagine a beehive. A big beehive standing out in the sun, glistening and sparkling like honey. Do you see it in your mind? Honeybees are buzzing around the hive. It's hard to see them, cause they're moving so fast. But I imagine they're yellow and black, with little legs and powerful wings.
Speaker 3:
[05:42] They look fuzzy, too.
Speaker 1:
[05:44] Oh, yeah. Honeybees have a fuzzy collar that collects pollen from the flowers. Bees help new flowers grow by moving pollen from plant to plant. They're very special, important creatures. Are you ready to imagine you're a honeybee? Let's imagine we have little legs and we have powerful wings. We've whooshed way up high in the sky. I imagine I can see the world stretch out so far. I see all the tops of the trees and the roofs of the houses. Can you see it in your mind? Everything looks so tiny. We're tiny too, but we're also strong, and we have lots of work to do. We have to gather nectar to make honey for the hive.
Speaker 3:
[07:46] Where can we find nectar?
Speaker 1:
[07:48] We can find nectar in flowers. Flowers make nectar. It's a sweet liquid that bees use to make honey. We need to find colorful flowers to find the nectar. From way up here, we should be able to see them. Let's take a look around and see what we can find. I imagine I see a bunch of big flowers way down there. I see flowers that are red, yellow, green, and blue. Let's buzz down to the flowers to gather the nectar.
Speaker 3:
[09:12] Buzz, buzz, buzz.
Speaker 1:
[09:16] Until we land on the flowers' petals.
Speaker 2:
[09:22] Wow.
Speaker 1:
[09:24] I imagine a flower looks a lot different when you're as small as a bee. We're so small, our whole bodies can fit inside the flower. Which is good, because nectar is stored deep inside a flower. I imagine the petals of the flower are huge. They hang over our heads, almost blocking out the sky, as we travel deeper into the flower. Oh, now I imagine I feel something sticky on my little bee feet.
Speaker 3:
[10:28] It's the nectar. We found it.
Speaker 1:
[10:32] Way to go, honey bees. Let's gather it up. Mmm, it's so sweet.
Speaker 3:
[10:47] Sip, sip, yum, yum.
Speaker 1:
[10:50] Sip, sip, yum, yum. That's enough nectar for me. Let's buzz, buzz, buzz.
Speaker 3:
[11:02] Back to the hive.
Speaker 1:
[11:08] I can imagine we're lifting out of the flower back into the sky. The flowers are getting smaller and smaller as we buzz, buzz further away. I imagine my little bee wings are getting a little tired carrying all this nectar.
Speaker 3:
[12:03] But we're almost back to the hive.
Speaker 1:
[12:07] I imagine I can see it in the distance. It's getting bigger as we buzz closer and closer. I imagine the bee hive is buzzing. There are bees everywhere. Hundreds of them, thousands. Can you see it in your mind? The bees go buzzing ten by ten.
Speaker 3:
[12:59] Hurrah! Hurrah!
Speaker 1:
[13:06] There are bees everywhere I look. All the bees are working together to keep the hive happy and healthy. We've helped too by gathering the nectar from the big flowers we found. And now that we're back, we can tell the other bees where to find the big flowers so they can buzz there and get nectar, too. And do you know how we tell them where the flowers are?
Speaker 3:
[13:41] How?
Speaker 1:
[13:42] By dancing. Bees talk to each other by doing a dance called the waggle dance. They move in a figure eight shape and shake their bodies. And it tells the other bees which direction they should go.
Speaker 2:
[14:03] And for how long?
Speaker 1:
[14:07] Isn't that neat? Are you ready to waggle dance? Let's imagine shaking our little bee bodies and moving our little bee feet to move around and around. Now we're waggling. We're gonna waggle waggle waggle waggle waggle waggle and stop. We're gonna waggle waggle waggle waggle waggle waggle and stop. Great waggle dancing, honeybees. I imagine I see a honeybee that is much bigger than the others. It's the biggest bee in the whole hive.
Speaker 3:
[15:16] It must be the queen bee. That's right.
Speaker 1:
[15:21] The queen bee is the biggest bee in the hive. And did you know, the queen bee is the mother of all the bees in this hive. Every single bee in the hive is one of her baby bees. I imagine the Queen Bee is proud of the hard work we did gathering nectar. I feel proud of us too. We were busy bees buzzing around. And now our job is done. And we can rest our little bee body. It's so much fun to buzz around in our imaginations. And even better to know how to calm the buzzing feeling in our body and mind when we need to. I hope you'll join us for more Imagination Time soon. Until then, it's time to say goodbye. We'll see you again soon, friends. Bye for now. Goodbye, goodbye.
