Speaker 1:
[00:00] From your friends at PBS Kids.

Speaker 2:
[00:43] Oh, I want to go to sleep.

Speaker 3:
[00:45] Well, here, listen to this.

Speaker 1:
[00:46] I don't want to go to bed. You're the one that looks tired. You never listen to what I want.

Speaker 4:
[00:53] Time for bed, DW.

Speaker 2:
[00:55] Let's hope things are better in the morning.

Speaker 1:
[00:57] They won't be better.

Speaker 2:
[00:58] They won't, they won't, they won't.

Speaker 4:
[01:01] No slamming doors, DW.

Speaker 1:
[01:03] Good night. It is not a good night!

Speaker 2:
[01:07] Night, Arthur.

Speaker 5:
[01:08] Time to turn off your podcast stuff.

Speaker 3:
[01:11] Okay, Dad. Night, podcast people. I'll see you in the morning.

Speaker 2:
[01:15] And it won't be a good morning either.

Speaker 1:
[01:18] Not even if you give me pancakes, which you won't.

Speaker 3:
[01:32] Hey, podcast friends, DW was still yelling at breakfast this morning, so I came out here to the playground and...

Speaker 5:
[01:41] Arthur, think fast! Sorry, Arthur, I yelled, so I thought you'd...

Speaker 3:
[01:48] I can't think fast, Francine. I didn't get any sleep last night.

Speaker 5:
[01:54] I was just coming over to invite you to my birthday party.

Speaker 3:
[01:57] I'm sorry, I can't go.

Speaker 4:
[02:00] Oh, I'm too tired.

Speaker 5:
[02:02] Arthur, the party's not for two more weeks. You'll have plenty of time to sleep.

Speaker 4:
[02:06] Hey, Arthur, Francine.

Speaker 5:
[02:09] Want to play kekball? This ball just bounced right to me out of nowhere. Think fast, Arthur! No! He's too tired to think fast.

Speaker 3:
[02:17] Why? Lately, she's been like a big, giant movie monster. All mad and yelling and stomping around. She stomps in and then yells about anything.

Speaker 4:
[03:02] Whoa, drama.

Speaker 5:
[03:04] Did you ask her what was wrong?

Speaker 3:
[03:06] No way, you ask her.

Speaker 5:
[03:08] Okay, I will. I'll eat dinner at your house tonight. Watch out, Francine, the monster might eat you. She's not a monster, you guys.

Speaker 3:
[03:18] I'm not so sure.

Speaker 4:
[03:25] More pasta, Francine?

Speaker 5:
[03:27] Yes, please, Mrs. Read.

Speaker 3:
[03:31] Ew, DW, you're slurping your sauce all over.

Speaker 4:
[03:33] DW, please use your fork for your spaghetti, not your hands.

Speaker 1:
[03:38] You're always picking on me. You never pick on anyone else, only me, me, me.

Speaker 4:
[03:45] Oh, that's not true, DW. Everybody has to eat politely, and that includes you.

Speaker 1:
[03:51] That does not include me. You never include me. You always make me stay home when there's anything fun.

Speaker 5:
[03:59] DW, can I ask you a question? What's wrong with you?

Speaker 1:
[04:04] What's wrong with you?

Speaker 5:
[04:06] No, I just meant-

Speaker 1:
[04:07] You don't even live here, and you're picking on me.

Speaker 5:
[04:09] I didn't mean for her to take it that way.

Speaker 4:
[04:14] It's not your fault, Francine.

Speaker 5:
[04:16] I'm gonna go talk to her.

Speaker 3:
[04:17] You should quit while you're behind.

Speaker 5:
[04:19] Come on, Arthur. Something's clearly bothering her.

Speaker 3:
[04:22] Fine, but when the monster comes out of her cave to eat you... Don't say that I didn't warn you.

Speaker 1:
[04:34] What?

Speaker 5:
[04:35] I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. I just...

Speaker 1:
[04:39] Who asked you anyway?

Speaker 5:
[04:40] Nobody asked me. But Arthur said you were acting strange, and I thought...

Speaker 1:
[04:44] Oh, so now I'm acting strange? I'm bugging Arthur? Well, he bugs me. You know what, Francine?

Speaker 5:
[04:53] You can tell me.

Speaker 1:
[04:54] I can't even think of anything else mean to say.

Speaker 3:
[04:57] Just go away! Well, that went well.

Speaker 5:
[05:02] She's upset about something.

Speaker 3:
[05:04] About what? She's only four years old.

Speaker 5:
[05:07] Arthur, everybody gets upset sometimes. Ask your podcast friends.

Speaker 3:
[05:12] Okay, let's check my inbox. Podcast people, when do you get upset?

Speaker 1:
[05:23] I get upset about when my brother doesn't really listen to me because I'm trying to make stuff really fun for him. I get upset when people don't let me play with them. I get upset when I don't get to watch TV. I get upset when people don't listen to me, and it makes me sad.

Speaker 3:
[05:46] Okay, you're right.

Speaker 5:
[05:48] We all have stuff that bugs us, and we have to figure out what's bothering DW. Starting today.

Speaker 3:
[05:55] But I'm so tired.

Speaker 5:
[05:58] Fine, starting tomorrow.

Speaker 3:
[06:05] Well, podcast people, Francine talked me into this we're gonna help DW plan. So right now, we're spying on her.

Speaker 5:
[06:13] It's not spying, it's surveillance.

Speaker 3:
[06:15] Call it what you want, but we're in the backyard bushes. I've got binoculars, and the subject is in view.

Speaker 5:
[06:22] What's she doing?

Speaker 3:
[06:23] She's at the picnic table, eating a sandwich.

Speaker 5:
[06:29] What's she doing now?

Speaker 3:
[06:30] She's taking a bite. She's chewing. She's making a face. She's spitting the bologna into her hand. She's throwing it onto the ground. Pal is now eating the bologna. Pal, pal, put that down! Sorry, I couldn't help it. Seeing my dog eat that spit-covered bologna.

Speaker 2:
[06:54] Quit spying on me!

Speaker 1:
[06:57] I'm the best spy. You should have asked me to play spy, but you never ask me. I hope your binoculators break.

Speaker 3:
[07:07] I told you it was spying.

Speaker 5:
[07:08] She won't tell us what's wrong. So how else are we gonna find out? We've gotta keep watching her.

Speaker 3:
[07:18] Podcast people, we're hiding in the bushes again. Only this time, we're outside DW's preschool. I still can't believe you talked me into this, Francine.

Speaker 5:
[07:28] Look, Arthur, there's DW. She's sitting on a bench, watching those other kids.

Speaker 3:
[07:33] The ones on tricycles?

Speaker 5:
[07:35] Wait, the tricycle kids are riding over here.

Speaker 2:
[07:42] So, the Mary Moocow movie starts at 1 p.m. And then after the movie, we'll go back to my house so you can give me my birthday presents and eat cake. Remember, Saturday in the movie theater at 1 o'clock.

Speaker 3:
[08:00] Francine, DW is looking right at us.

Speaker 5:
[08:02] No, not us.

Speaker 2:
[08:04] She's looking at them.

Speaker 5:
[08:06] Toys away, friends.

Speaker 2:
[08:07] School is over.

Speaker 1:
[08:08] Let's all line up.

Speaker 5:
[08:12] I think I know what's going on here. Hey Arthur, when your mom comes to pick up DW, let's ride home with them.

Speaker 3:
[08:18] Okay, we can meet them in the front of the school.

Speaker 5:
[08:20] Come on.

Speaker 4:
[08:29] So, how was school, DW?

Speaker 1:
[08:31] Terrible.

Speaker 5:
[08:32] Aw, that's too bad.

Speaker 1:
[08:33] Francine, can I ask you a question?

Speaker 5:
[08:36] Sure, anything.

Speaker 1:
[08:37] Why don't you go back to your own family and stop bothering us?

Speaker 4:
[08:42] DW, this being rude to everybody has got to stop.

Speaker 1:
[08:45] Well, I know something that might make me feel better. I know I'd feel much better if I could see Mary Moocow, the movie, this Saturday at one o'clock.

Speaker 4:
[08:58] You've already seen that, DW.

Speaker 3:
[09:01] Ah!

Speaker 5:
[09:02] How about if we take her? Arthur and I would love to go.

Speaker 3:
[09:05] Arthur would not love to go. That's a baby movie.

Speaker 4:
[09:08] Well, that's very kind, Francine. I'll give you a ride tomorrow.

Speaker 3:
[09:17] Podcast people, we're here at the movie theater, waiting for the dumbest baby movie ever to start. How could you make me do this, Francine?

Speaker 5:
[09:27] You wanna know what's wrong with DW, right? Just wait and see.

Speaker 2:
[09:31] Come on, everyone, our seats are over here.

Speaker 1:
[09:33] There she is. Ha ha, ha.

Speaker 3:
[09:39] What are you doing?

Speaker 1:
[09:40] Having fun, loads of fun, ha.

Speaker 2:
[09:43] Oh, hi, DW.

Speaker 1:
[09:46] Hi, Lisa. I didn't know you'd be here. I'm having lots of fun, ha.

Speaker 2:
[09:55] Oh, well, enjoy the movie. Come on, everyone. I wanna get to our seats and eat my popcorn.

Speaker 1:
[10:03] I have popcorn, too, lots of it.

Speaker 3:
[10:06] Oh, previews are starting.

Speaker 1:
[10:08] I wanna go home.

Speaker 3:
[10:10] DW, we just got here. Wait, wait a minute, what am I saying? Yes, let's go.

Speaker 2:
[10:17] Excuse us.

Speaker 1:
[10:18] Pardon me.

Speaker 2:
[10:18] Sorry.

Speaker 3:
[10:25] Francine, why are we at the ice cream shop when we just bought all that movie popcorn?

Speaker 5:
[10:30] Because sometimes people just need a scoop of marshmallow chocolate and a chat with a friend, right, DW?

Speaker 1:
[10:37] I like strawberry.

Speaker 5:
[10:38] Fine, one strawberry on a cone and a hot fudge sundae. Can you get those, Arthur?

Speaker 3:
[10:43] But why can't you?

Speaker 5:
[10:44] Oh, and no nuts on my sundae.

Speaker 3:
[10:46] Thanks, Arthur.

Speaker 5:
[10:48] So, DW, you shouldn't feel bad just because you didn't get invited to that birthday party.

Speaker 1:
[10:53] What birthday party?

Speaker 5:
[10:55] Come on, DW. Those kids at the movie with Lisa? That's what's been bugging you this whole week, right?

Speaker 1:
[11:01] Yeah, maybe. Francine, could you help me?

Speaker 5:
[11:06] Of course, DW. How can I help?

Speaker 1:
[11:09] Here's what I want. I want to rent a balloon and sail over Lisa's birthday party. And just when they're ready to eat cake and all of her presents are around her, I'm gonna rain on her parade. Water balloons! That's a fancy now, huh?

Speaker 5:
[11:38] Um, that seems kind of mean.

Speaker 1:
[11:40] She was mean first! She didn't invite me to her party!

Speaker 5:
[11:44] Look, I know you feel left out, but maybe there wasn't enough room, or her mom could only buy so many tickets.

Speaker 1:
[11:50] Whose side are you on anyway?

Speaker 5:
[11:52] Is Lisa someone you play with a lot?

Speaker 1:
[11:54] No, but she's friends with my friend Emily, and Emily got to go to the party.

Speaker 5:
[11:59] Everybody can't go to every party. I mean, if you had a party, would you invite Lisa? Yeah. So maybe you don't need to feel left out.

Speaker 1:
[12:11] Yeah, maybe.

Speaker 5:
[12:13] There will be lots of other parties you will be invited to, so don't worry about the ones you're not.

Speaker 1:
[12:18] I guess you're right.

Speaker 3:
[12:20] Here's your ice cream, and, um, DW, they're out of strawberry, so I got you raspberry sorbet instead.

Speaker 1:
[12:27] Oh! That's my second favorite flavor. It's really good. Thanks, Arthur.

Speaker 3:
[12:33] Uh, yeah, sure. Uh, I mean, you're welcome.

Speaker 4:
[12:49] Good morning, Arthur. Sleep well?

Speaker 3:
[12:51] Yeah, I actually did. Podcast people, there was no door slamming last night, and no screaming. Maybe the old DW is back. Oh, here she comes.

Speaker 1:
[13:03] Morning. Can I have pancakes?

Speaker 4:
[13:06] Sorry, DW.

Speaker 5:
[13:07] I don't have time to make those this morning.

Speaker 4:
[13:09] Cereal good?

Speaker 1:
[13:12] But can we have pancakes this weekend?

Speaker 4:
[13:14] Sure thing. Oh, and DW, this envelope came for you this morning.

Speaker 1:
[13:19] Really? It's shiny paper and gold letters that say DW.

Speaker 3:
[13:24] Wow. That's fancy.

Speaker 1:
[13:26] Open it. I'm opening the envelope and... Read it, Arthur. What does it say?

Speaker 3:
[13:36] Miss DW Read is invited...

Speaker 1:
[13:39] I'm invited! I'm invited! To what?

Speaker 3:
[13:42] To Francine Frensky's birthday party. Wait, what?

Speaker 1:
[13:48] I'm invited to a birthday party!

Speaker 3:
[13:51] Woohoo!

Speaker 4:
[13:52] What a nice friend Francine is!

Speaker 1:
[13:54] Is she? This is a third grade party! Just wait till I tell them!

Speaker 3:
[14:03] Wait, DW, you don't have to go! You've been listening to The Arthur Podcast. Hey parents, do you want your kids to answer my next inbox question?
